Are you interested in knowing more about the Catholic faith? Have you ever wondered if the
Catholic teachings and traditions are biblical? Maybe you have no church, but are looking to
find one where you feel welcome. Come join the RCIA-the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults, where you can learn about our Church. The RCIA gives adults an opportunity to prepare for baptism, confirmation and Eucharist...Come to our first meeting on Sunday, October 5
at 11:00 a.m. in Room Number 117 in St. Andrew School.
ABOUT THE ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR POSITION...
The Administrative Director position was created to give our Pastor, Father Paul Sustayta, more
availability to focus on the spiritual and pastoral needs of our growing parish community. The
new Administrative Director will assume many of Father Paul’s administrative duties which do
not require the services of clergy.
During the first few months, the Administrative Director, Denise Pena will work very closely with
Father Paul as he carries out his daily responsibilities and commitments. All aspects of the Parish Office will be assessed and over time, it is anticipated she will become the point of contact
for maintaining an updated and enhanced website, coordinating all Church Calendars, supporting
our many Heads of Ministries, Parish Committees and Special Event Chairs. This will be a flexible situation and as she comes to know the intricate relationships and functions of all our parish
activities, her ongoing role will be defined.
DENIS PEÑA, ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR
I am excited to be joining the Saint Andrew Family! Here at Saint Andrew, there is such a wonderful, positive
spirit and I know that now is a great time to be a part of this growing, exciting time in our history!
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for ten years. It was there that I
earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Dominican University in San Rafael, CA. I moved back home to
Los Angeles a year ago with my husband, our two daughters, Selena and Lily, and our dog, Tucker. I have spent
most of my professional career in Financial Aid and Higher Education until recently, when I decided it was time
for a change of scenery and am moving in to the Administrative Director position on September 2nd. I longed
for an opportunity to be close to home, my children and my faith-- I know that this is the perfect opportunity
for me to accomplish just that.
When I’m not on duty, you can find me cheering on the Dodgers, at the park with my girls, or putting some elbow grease into my "new" old house. I am committed to providing exceptional service and communication for
our Parishioners and welcome your input on how to improve our efforts.

FROM THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM...
Hurry, hurry! There is still time to register your child for Religious Education classes in preparation for their First Communion.
Stop by the Pastoral Center Office, (140 Chestnut Street), Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00
p.m. or 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., to fill out the required paper work. Also, please bring a copy of your
child’s baptism certificate.
MINISTRY FAIR FOR ALL MINISTRY LEADERS!
Attention All Ministry Leaders: We are pleased to announce we will be hosting a Ministry Fair
for our Second Year Confirmation Students on Sunday, September 14, directly after the 9:30 a.m.
Mass in the School Auditorium. Please contact Ana Maria Rangel at (626) 792-4183, Ext. 203, to
confirm your ministry’s participation. We are very excited to kick off our Confirmation Year
with all of you and show our students the wide range of opportunities that St. Andrew has to
offer.
FROM THE CONFIRMATION DEPARTMENT...
We are very excited to announce the start of our new Confirmation program beginning in
September! After getting feedback from our students and parents, we decided to implement a
few changes. This year Confirmation students will gather for formation class one Sunday a
month for a longer period of time, rather than two Sundays per month as in years past. We
hope this new change will help accommodate the busy schedules of our teens, while still providing them with a quality formation program.
We are also very excited to announce a new change in curriculum. This year we will adopt,
Confirmed in the Spirit, by Loyola Press. Our committee is very excited about the new books our
teens will receive on their Confirmation journey. This series is a continuation of the Finding
God curriculum being used in our Religious Education Program.
There is still time to register for classes! Please stop by the Pastoral Center Office MondayFriday from 10:00 a.m.-12-noon or from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., to fill out registration forms. We
also need a copy of your teen’s Baptismal and First Communion certificates.
The cost for Confirmation Year 1 is $100.00 and Confirmation Year 2 is $125.00

ACERCA DE LA POSICIÓN DE DIRECTORA ADMINISTRATIVA ...
La posición de Directora Administrativa fue creado para dar a nuestro Párroco, el Padre Paul Sustayta, más disponibilidad para centrarse en las necesidades espirituales y pastorales de nuestra comunidad parroquial. La nueva
Directora Administrativa asumirá muchas de las tareas administrativas del Padre Pablo que no requieren los servicios del clero.
Durante los primeros meses, la Directora Administrativa, Denise Peña trabajará muy de cerca con el padre Paul
en el desempeño de sus responsabilidades y compromisos diarios. Se evaluarán todos los aspectos de la oficina
de la parroquia y con el tiempo, se prevé que se convertirá en el punto de contacto para el mantenimiento de un
sitio web actualizado y mejorado, la coordinación de todos los Calendarios de la Iglesia, apoyando a nuestros
muchos Jefes de Ministerios, Comités Parroquiales para eventos especiales. Esta será una situación flexible y como ella llega a conocer las intrincadas relaciones y las funciones de todas nuestras actividades de la parroquia, se
define su papel.

¡Estoy muy emocionado de unirme a la familia de San Andrés! Aquí en San Andrés, hay un maravilloso espíritu
tan positivo y sé que ahora es un buen momento para ser parte de este crecimiento, momento emocionante en
nuestra historia!
Nací y crecí en Los Ángeles y vivía en la bahía de San Francisco durante diez años. Fue allí donde obtuve mi Licenciatura en Psicología en la Universidad Dominicana en San Rafael, California. Me mudé de vuelta a casa a Los
Ángeles hace un año con mi marido, nuestros dos hijas, Selena y Lily, y nuestro perro, Tucker. He pasado la mayor parte de mi carrera profesional en la Ayuda Financiera y de Educación Superior hasta hace poco tiempo,
cuando decidí que era hora de un cambio de escenario en la posición de Director Administrativo el 2 de septiembre. Yo anhelaba la oportunidad de estar cerca de casa, mis hijas y mi fe; yo sé que está es la oportunidad perfecta
para mí para lograr precisamente eso.
Cuando no estoy trabajando, me pueden encontrar animando a los Dodgers, en el parque con mis hijas, o poniéndole un poco trabajo a mi "nueva" casa antigua. Me he comprometido a proporcionar un servicio excepcional y la
comunicación para nuestros feligreses y le doy la bienvenida a sus sugerencias sobre cómo mejorar nuestros esfuerzos.
