Third Sunday of Easter
©Liturgical Publications Inc
"Jesus said to him the third time, 'Simon, son of John, do you love me?'"
Three times, Simon Peter had denied Jesus. Now, three times, the risen
Christ gives Peter the opportunity to announce his love. Although Peter was "distressed" by the Lord's repeated
question, ultimately this must have been
a healing moment in Peter's life. He finally
had the opportunity to assure Jesus that
he loved him, thereby making up for his
earlier failure and weakness on the night
of the Crucifixion.
Jesus' death on the cross sufficed to forgive us of our sins. But his resurrection assures us that there is new life on the other side of our sinfulness. Just as Jesus had the power to conquer death, so too through his
grace we have the power to conquer our sins. We can live a resurrected
life, we can have a new beginning, just as Peter did that day at the Sea of
Tiberias when he pledged his faith anew.
This pledge of faith, it's interesting to note, also came with a kind of
commission. Each time that Peter told the Lord he loved him, Jesus responded with a command: "Feed my lambs," "Tend my sheep," and "Feed
my sheep." Of course, we know that Jesus had already established Peter
as the "rock" on which he built his church, as the first pope. Now, Jesus
was emphasizing the connection between loving him--the Good Shepherd--and loving his people, his flock, his church. Peter's love for Christ
was meant to be manifested in his love and care for the church, as is the
case with every pope. But it's also true for every Christian. We are called
not just to relish the gift of forgiveness and the grace of new life in Christ,
but to take the next step of loving and serving those around us.

Worship
Thanks and Best Wishes to Barbara Ferron,
Worship Associate
Barbara Ferron has served faithfully and well as Worship Associate here
at St. Stephen’s for five and a half years. She came here with quite a bit
of experience with church choirs and the RCIA. Sadly, Barbara’s husband
David was transferred to Peoria, Illinois for business and she will be leaving with their son Christopher to join David there. In addition to serving
as Worship Associate, Barbara served as an accompanist for the choir
Psalm 100 and as needed in other areas of our Music Ministry. Barbara’s
husband David was a member of the Adult Contemporary Ensemble
where he sang and played guitar. The Ferrons will be missed very much
here at St. Stephen’s but we wish them all the best as they move on to
new endeavors.
Welcome to Amanda Lutes, New Worship Associate
Amanda Lutes has been hired to serve as the new Worship Associate
for St. Stephen’s. Amanda is a recent graduate of the University of St.
Thomas in St. Paul where she earned a B.A. in Marketing Management
with a Minor in Psychology. While at St. Thomas she served as Choir Librarian for the University of St. Thomas Liturgical Choir. She is from Onamia, Minnesota and her husband Tom teaches English in Forest Lake.
Welcome to St. Stephen’s, Amanda!

grounded in our Catholic tradition.
Academics: In partnership with their

directed to reach his or her potential.
Our academic program emphasizes mastery of the basics, academic excellence,

Mass with Anointing - Saturday, April 16,10:00 a.m.
(Please note there will not be an 8:00 a.m. Mass Saturday, April 16.)
Anointing is one of the Church’s seven sacraments and is classified as
one of the Sacraments of Healing. All those who are dealing with acute
or chronic illness, young or old, physical or otherwise, are invited to
turn to Jesus, the great miracle worker, for healing and grace.
Anointing may be received more than once over a person’s lifetime,
but usually only once per illness. For example, if a person has a bout
of pneumonia, it would be proper to be anointed sometime over the
course of the illness. However, the Sacrament should not be administered a week to two later for the same illness. The only exceptions are
if the person takes a significant turn for the worse during the same illness, or if the person recovers and then relapses. If this occurs, the person would be eligible to receive the sacrament again. It is also proper
to receive the sacrament up to twice a year at our local parish Anointing Mass.
If you are afflicted in any way, please come to the healing Mass. Jesus
wants to touch you with His healing grace!
Be Renewed By God's Mercy if You Have Been
Wounded by Abortion
Pope Francis said, "Let's not forget that God forgives and God forgives
always." If you or someone you love is grieving the loss of a child or children to abortion, come and experience the compassionate mercy of Jesus Christ on our weekend retreat. Rachel’s Vineyard Twin Cities' retreats
are open to anyone impacted by abortion - women, men, grandparents,
siblings, and health care professionals. The next retreat is May 6-8, 2016
in the Twin Cities area. For more information contact Nancy at rachels@
rvineyardmn.org, call 763-250-9313, or visit www.rvineyardmn.org.

Stewardship Reflection
Tuesday, April 12
“Peter was distressed that
Jesus had said to him a third
time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he
said to him, ‘Lord, you know
everything; you know that I
love you.’ Jesus said to him,
‘Feed my sheep.’” Jn 21:17
All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus by “feeding His sheep.”
Through prayer ask God how you should best use your time, talent and
treasure to assist those who are in need. Remember that giving is an act of
worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church.

Potential Parish Lawsuit
Our parish may be one of several sued by sex abuse claimants in the upcoming weeks. These lawsuits are the result of the three-year lifting of
the statute of limitations (Child Victims Act). All sex abuse claims against
parishes subject to the Child Victims Act must be placed in suit on or
before May 25, 2016. The claims do not relate to anyone currently working at the parish or anyone currently in ministry. The Archdiocese and
parish legal counsel are making every effort to resolve these cases in
the course of the ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. We expect that any
lawsuit will not affect the normal operations of the parish and the case
will be resolved in a fair and equitable manner in the coming months.
Have You Considered

El Tercer Domingo de La Pascua
©Liturgical Publications Inc
Tres veces, Simón Pedro había negado a Jesús. Ahora, tres veces, Cristo
a nuestros pecados.

Life Matters Se Reune el Lunes
El equipo Life
[email protected]).
Registrar a Los Niños En La Escuela San Esteban

o visitar www.rvineyardmn.org.

Corresponsabilidad
3er Domingo de Pascua
“Pedro se entristeció porque
Jesús le dijo por tercera vez’ ¿Tú
me amas?’ y él le dijo, ‘Señor, tú
sabes todo; tú sabes que yo te
amo’. Jesús le dijo, ‘Apacienta mis
ovejas.’” Juan 21:17
Todos nosotros somos retados a
mostrar nuestro amor por Jesús
“apacentando Sus ovejas.” A
Necesitamos a
mas adoradores los lunes a las
5:00 a.m. y 2:00
p.m., los sábados a las 3:00
p.m. y los domingos a las
3:00 p.m. Considera la idea
de compartir
una hora en el
Santísimo con
un amigo o familiar, para tener
más flexibilidad. Si deseas ser un
adorador, favor de contactar a
Joyce al 612-860-3830, en inglés,
o al Diácono Ramón, al 763-7127482, en español.
