Our school will be celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Providence on November 19th. The title “Our Lady of Providence” has been used in Scripture in reference to Mary, most notably in the story of the Wedding in Cana. Jesus performed his first public miracle in part because of Mary’s concern for the newlywed couple. The image of Mary leaning over Jesus with the Virgin's hands folded in prayer while she gently supports her Son's left hand suggests tenderness, devotion and peace. Pope Paul VI declared Our Lady Mother of Divine Providence, the principal patroness of the island of Puerto Rico. November 19th was chosen as the Feast day of Our Lady of Providence because it was the day that the island of Puerto Rico was discovered. As the Thanksgiving Season approaches, students are contributing food items to donate to St. John of God Pantry to put together their baskets in time for the holiday. We teach our children to share their blessings with others who are not as fortunate. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed In weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
