NOVEMBER 1, 2015 MASSES FOR ALL SAINTS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 Normal Mass Schedule 7.00 a.m., 8.30 a.m., 10.00 a.m., 12 noon*, 6.00 p.m. (Spanish) and 8.00 p.m. *At the 12 noon Mass on Sunday, November 1, we will offer a special Liturgy to honor all the deceased souls of our parish who have gone before us, and, in particular, the deceased whose Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church from November 2014 to date. Family members who attend will be given the wooden Cross bearing the name of their beloved deceased, that has been in place on our Memorial Wall in the rear of the Church since the time of his/her funeral. MASS FOR ALL SOULS (not a Holy Day of Obligation) MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 Normal Mass Schedule 8.00 a.m. The priests of the parish will offer the 8.00 a.m. weekday Mass during the month of November for the poor souls. You may fill out one of the special “All Souls” offertory envelopes on the lectern near the Baptismal Font if you want to have family and friends remembered—either place in the offertory basket or hand in to the Rectory early November. You may write the names of others you wish to be remembered in the Book of Remembrance which will also be on the lectern. SOCIAL CONCERNS The Poor Box for the month of November is for Bread for the City, a nonprofit agency which provides clothing, food, medical care, legal assistance, and social services to an average of 10,000 needy DC residents each month. St. Bartholomew's is adopting 10 families in need this Christmas season. Each grade at St. Bartholomew School will gather requested/needed items for each family as well as a toy or two for each child. We would like to be able to provide grocery gifts cards to each of the 10 families and are asking for donations of Giant gifts cards (in any denominations). Please bring your Giant gifts cards to the rectory marked "Adopt a Family" program by December 16th. St. Bartholomew’‛s will also be collecting food to deliver to Sacred Heart Parish for Thanksgiving. A more detailed list can be found on the flyer in this week’‛s bulletin. Each grade at St. Bartholomew School will be collecting food as well with the goal to provide Thanksgiving dinner and 1-2 weeks of groceries for 10 families at Thanksgiving. Please place your donations in the box set up in the back of the Church. Donations will be taken through November 19th. Please use the second collection envelopes that have been mailed to your homes and/ or the special collection envelopes that will be placed in the pews. ALL SAINTS The flowers on the altar this weekend were sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Dennis Donohue in memory of Virginia Donohue in honor of her birthday. Candy for the Troops! We will be collecting leftover Halloween Candy from October 31-November 5 to send to Operation Gratitude which provides over 100,000 care packages to Troops each year. Donation box will be set up in the back of the Church through November 5th. *** The Centering Prayer Group will be meeting this Thursday, November 5 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Rectory Meeting Room located in the basement of St Bart’‛s Rectory. New participants are always welcome and no experience is necessary. *** St. Bart's Middle School Youth Group: we are 6th, 7th and 8th graders interested in serving our neighbor, playing together and getting to know Our Lord Jesus Christ! Hospice Caring, Inc. is currently recruiting new volunteers for an upcoming training session November 17, 18, & 19 for people who are interested in becoming hospice caregivers and bereavement facilitators. The training covers topics such as communication and active listening, understanding grief, cultural competency, and self-care. Trained Hospice Caring volunteers provide companionship, home assistance and transportation, adult bereavement support group facilitation, school-based Good Grief Clubs, and Health Class facilitation. Training will take place from 8:30 am – 4 pm each day at the Hospice Caring Cottage at 518 South Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. Ser pobre sin tener a Dios es una doble desgracia. Ser rico y tener a Dios es un espejismo, pues el dinero exige atención y cuidados que separan del prójimo y de Dios. Por el contrario, la dicha que se encuentra en la pobreza nace de la conciencia de profunda unidad con Dios, de saberse su creatura y y vivir orientado únicamente hacia el. La dicha depende de Dios, no de sus benefactores. El reino de Dios no es, pues, un objeto, sino una persona en acción, realizando un proyecto de vida, como lo describen 3 de las Bienaventuranzas. Y son los pobres los que lo realizan. Pobres son los misericordiosos, los limpios de corazón, los constructores de paz. Asi la persona que decide ser pobre, no es alguien inutilizado, sino protagonista, ejecutor del reino de Dios, pero actua con el sello de Jesus, misericordioso, limpio, pacifico, pobre, el bienaventurado por exelencia.
