Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement
We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love
through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service.
Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit,
embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action.
As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church,
waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.
Weekly Reflection
Joyously seeking reconciliation
Gozosamente buscando la reconciliación
Today’s readings and prayers continue last week’s
theme of Reconciliation. In the first reading, Peter invites the early community to repent from their earlier
denial of Christ. He reminds them that if they ask for
forgiveness, “their sins [will] be wiped away.” The responsorial psalm describes the graces God gives to his
children who call upon him, “the light of his countenance will shine upon them, he will put gladness into
their hearts, and [they] will fall peacefully asleep.” In
his letter, John reinforces Peter’s words by reminding
the community that “Jesus Christ, the righteous one,” is
“an Advocate with the Father.” Luke explains Jesus’
role as the advocate when he recounts Jesus’ visit after his resurrection. Jesus walks into the room offering
“Peace.” He shows the disciples that his is indeed a
glorified body and invites them to touch and see,
“because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as
you can see I have.” After he eats he “opens their
minds to understanding the Scriptures.” He exhorts
that “repentance for the forgiveness of sins be
preached in his name to all nations.” All the readings
speak to the power of reconciliation. Jesus knows our
human nature first hand and that we will trip and stumble on our journey of faith. How often do we become
discouraged and crestfallen as we negotiate our daily
lives? Jesus’ Easter gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation renews and brings
many graces and blessings
that fortify us and provide
us the strength and courage
to pray that, “rejoicing now
in the restored glory of our
adoption, we may look forward in confident hope to
the rejoicing of the day of
resurrection” (The Collect).

Service & Outreach
Special Collection for Many Meals
Thank You from Food Basket Committee
Many Meals serves our parish family as well as the community as a whole. Guests come each Wednesday for a
hot meal, free of charge, as well as wonderful fellowship.
We serve at College United Methodist Church, 4300
Telegraph Road from 6-7pm. We are currently serving
about 150 guests each week. The program is selfsupporting and thus, relies on our dedicated volunteers
along with both monetary and food donations from our
generous parishioners.
The Holiday Food Basket Committee would like to thank
all who made the 2015 Easter Food Baskets event such a
success. The food and monetary donations that were
received as well as the time from volunteers were vital to
the success of the event, and is truly appreciated. We
were able to assist 660 people
who were in need of help over
the holiday season, all receiving food from our parish.
Thank you all for your contributions, and God bless you for
all your generosity.
Next Sunday, April 26, our Sunday second collection will
be donated to the Many Meals program. These funds
will be used to purchase the things required to provide
the meal each week. This includes purchasing the meat
for the main meal each week as well as food and beverage items that are not donated along with paper products, kitchen supplies, cookware, office supplies, monthly facility rental costs, etc.
