Corpus Christi Procession
Father Mark Wagner
Today is the great
Solemnity of Corpus
Christi, when we thank
God for the great gift of
the Body and Blood of
Christ given to us in the
Eucharist. Today we
will march through the streets
during our Corpus Christi procession
to show the world how grateful we
are It is also a day to thank God for
the gift of the Eucharist and of the
priesthood, without which we would
have no Eucharist.
The preface for the Mass of
Corpus Christi expresses our
Catholic faith that Jesus is the High
Priest who established the Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass: "He is the true
MODEST DRESS IN CHURCH
With the hot weather here, we
need to remind everyone of the
importance of dressing
appropriately in the house of God.
Please avoid short dresses or shorts,
spaghetti straps, and any other
immodest attire which does not
cover the shoulders, back, and
cleavage. We ask that men avoid
wearing shorts or sleeveless shirts.
Thank you for wearing your Sunday
best!
and eternal Priest, who instituted the
everlasting sacrifice and was the first
to offer himself as the saving Victim,
commanding us to make this offering
as his memorial."
Today is also a perfect day for us to
welcome our new priest, Fr Edwin
Musico. Many of us already know Fr.
Edwin because he has come many
times to celebrate our Philipino
Mass. Fr. Edwin has served for many
years in parishes in Tracy and
Stockton. We are very happy to have
him with us.
We thank Jesus for handing on to
his priests this sacrament divine: "All
praise and all thanksgiving be every
moment thine!"

Inquiry classes are for people who want to
learn more about Catholicism, but aren’t
necessarily sure they want to become Catholic.
The RCIA process is also for Catholics who
have not yet completed their sacraments of
Confirmation or Holy Communion.
To start the process call
John and Nichole Sablan 581-8477
to make an appointment.
Religious Education
“I am the living bread which came down from heaven”
And Jesus said,
“I am the living bread which
came down from heaven;
if any one eats of this bread, he
will live forever;
and the bread which I shall give
for the life of the world is my
flesh” (John 6:51).
The Feast of Corpus Christi
Procession will be made up of clergy,
Catholic groups and organizations
with banners held high and lay
people and their families from our
parish and those throughout the
diocese. Children in First
Communion dress will strew flower
petals in front of the transported
Eucharist held high under a canopy
carried by the Knights of Columbus
Color Corp as tradition dictates.
As we walk, heads held high
before Our Lord, we will sing hymns
led by our many choirs dispersed
throughout the crowd. An exquisite
vision to be certain, that will
transport one to the very edge of
Heaven resting under the gaze of Our
Heavenly Father, so pleased with the
joy and reverence which we have
bestowed upon His Only Son, Jesus
Christ.
Come join this superbly beautiful
occasion in which we will unite as
brothers and sisters, unaware of each
others’ faults and failures, simply
embracing His Truth, walking with
Our Beloved King in a public display
of love and deep sense of connection
to one another.
On this Procession we are called to
focus upon two manifestations of the
Body of Christ: The Holy Eucharist
and the Church. The opening prayer
at Mass calls our attention to Jesus'
suffering and death and our worship
of Him, especially in the Eucharist.
Indeed, at every Mass our attention is
called to the Eucharist and the Real
Presence of Christ within it.
The Church is called the Body of
Christ because of the intimate
communion which Jesus shares with
His disciples. He expresses this in the
gospels by using the metaphor of a
body in which He is the head. This
image helps keep in focus both the
unity and the diversity of the Church.
Our worship of Jesus in His Body and
Blood calls us to offer to God our
Father a pledge of undivided love
and an offering of ourselves to the
service of others.
The feast of Corpus Christi offers
each of us a unique opportunity to
express this unity within our diversity.
We need the Holy Eucharist every
week to survive the war at which we
fight day in and day out, so we turn
gratefully to Him with love as He
beckons, “Eat My Body; Drink My
Blood.
Be fortified and nourished that
you may go out to love and serve Me
through My Children!” The
Procession will proceed from the nave
of the church and continue through
the campus then out throughout the
neighborhood stopping four times at
Catholic homes where outdoor altars
will await Our Lord to be placed
before all to adore in solemn prayer
and song. We will close our time
together by returning to St. Joseph’s
for solemn benediction. Along the
path, our Youth Group will provide
water and trash receptacles.
The streets will be momentarily
closed along the way by our Modesto
Police Dept to provide a safe
environment. The walk will be
approximately 1.25 miles round trip
during which we will provide
transportation back to the campus
should anyone find they cannot
complete the walk. We welcome you
and your families with open arms in
celebration of this magnificent feast
of Our Lord’s Body and Blood! !Viva
el Cristo Rey!

Jeremy Phillips
The faithful stewardship of Jeremy
Phillips was more visible when he was
head altar server at our 5:30 PM Youth
Mass on Sunday evenings and at the
7:30 AM Masses on Sunday. But after
suffering a broken neck in a tragic car
accident he nevertheless continues to
be a good steward of what God gives
him. He still prays gratefully, sitting
with the congregation in his
wheelchair.
He continues to give
encouragement and advice to novice
altar servers and to many others who
visit him or speak to him on the
telephone. The crushing cross that he
must bear has helped him become
more selfless, which is the very
definition of stewardship. He loved
helping at the altar to offer the
sacrifice of the Christ, now he offers his
own sacrifice by offering up his
sufferings for us and for the world!
Before the accident Jeremy was a
lifeguard, and was involved in parish
youth activities, did childcare, and
helped his mother with teaching
Catechism. His mother Fran and his
father Roland and his brother Lucas
deserve an honorable mention for
patiently supporting Jeremy since the
accident.
Despite his paralysis, Jeremy retains
his smiling, optimistic, gregarious, and
somewhat
mischievous
personality. Thanks to the continued
prayers of all of us, and to his fidelity in
his routine of physical therapy, Jeremy
is slowly recovering movement in his
biceps, triceps and deltoids. He has
hopes of soon fulfilling his plans of
attending classes at UC Merced in
Computer Science and Mechanical
Engineering.

Procesión de Corpus Christi
Padre Mark Wagner
no tendríamos ninguna
Eucaristía.
Por lo tanto, hoy es
también un día perfecto para darle la
bienvenida a nuestro nuevo
sacerdote, Padre Edwin
Músico. Muchos ya conocemos al
Padre Edwin porque ha venido a
celebrar nuestra Misa Filipina.
El Padre Edwin ha servido por
muchos años en las parroquias en
Tracy y Stockton.

ruedas.

WHY IS IT
A man wakes up after sleeping
under an ADVERTISED blanket
on an ADVERTISED mattress
and pulls off ADVERTISED pajamas
bathes in an ADVERTISED shower
shaves with an ADVERTISED razor
brushes his teeth
with ADVERTISED toothpaste
washes with ADVERTISED soap
puts on ADVERTISED clothes
drinks a cup
of ADVERTISED coffee
drives to work
in an ADVERTISED car
and then . . . .
refuses to ADVERTISE
believing it doesn’t pay.
Later if business is poor
he ADVERTISES it for sale.
