Their first initiative as a committee came after the third meeting when they proposed the parish donate the Stations of the Cross and Resurrected Christ from the old church to the parish in Africa. These fine quality sacred images were only gathering considerable dust as well as paint speckle through the years. I thought this was a marvelous idea and very much in keeping with our Holy Father Pope Francis directives to turn our attention to the poor. No sooner had I endorsed this proposal when the team descended on the old Church to not only remove them but also clean, remove years of paint speckle and repair them. Some of the stations were damaged so each one was restored. Mark from the UPS store across County Line Road, next to Stop n Shop, volunteered to carefully pack each one for shipment. They were taken by the Change-A-Life Medical Team as luggage on their mission of mercy. When the team arrived in Kampala their luggage and the Stations ended up in England. Eventually the Stations made their way to the parish and have been mounted on the walls there to the great joy of the people who have been struggling for years to complete their Church. Photos are available online! Here is the communication I received from St. Aloysius Parishioner, Jean Semler and her medical team: "Fr. Lawrence and the parish priests, Fr. Paul and Fr. Aloysius are so grateful for the gift of the Stations of the Cross. You'll see from the photos that the Church and altar are unfinished, however the walls, roof, window frames are in. Glass for the windows will be installed this week thanks to a recent fundraising effort from the Christian community. The Church has been at this stage for a number of years but step by step it will be finished. Now the Church has Stations of the Cross...a gift from St. Aloysius Church community and Fr. Bambrick. Thanks to everyone who helped along the way especially Bernie and Clare who did the "restoration". If you see Mark, the owner of UPS store, please thank him for us.” All is well in Uganda. The medical mission team is on their way back to the US as I write this. They performed physicals on 460 children - establishing a baseline and identifying tinea (ring worm), intestinal worms, malaria, one case of TB, poor vision etc. The Ob-Gyn MD performed physicals and cervical cancer screening on 90 women. She brought an ultra scan which identified fibroids and other irregularities. It was an amazing week. We visited homes of the families who are participating in our Gardens for Health program which teaches the mothers and grandmothers how to raise and cook a variety of food to prevent and treat malnutrition in the children." Now our two parishes are connected by the Way of the Cross, how very beautiful. May we always walk together with The Lord of Compassion sharing each others joys and burdens. This first project is a beautiful testament of our common faith, thanks so much to our newest ministry team for this wonderful idea and for making it a reality especially for our poor brothers and sisters in Africa! I feel so much joy in my heart to be part of a community of love and caring! Peace and Good - Fr. Your immediate help is needed: Contact your Legislators to Oppose Assisted Suicide Bill in NJ (From the Department of Pastoral Care at the Diocese of Trenton) As you may know, the New Jersey Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee released A2270, the Death with Dignity Act, from Committee to the full Assembly and on June 5 two amendments were made to the bill: the name of the bill was changed to the NJ Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act; and the bill was changed from a referendum ballot question to a bill to be voted on in the Assembly. The NJ Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act will be posted for a vote in the full Assembly in September. The proposed “Aid to Dying for the Terminally Ill” Act, A2270/S382 would give patients with a prognosis of less than six months to live, the ability to request a lethal prescription to end his/her life. A prognosis of six months to live can be wildly inaccurate. And it’s a medical fact that many terminally ill patients are clinically depressed and could benefit enormously from counseling and medication, yet a required consultation with a psychiatrist or hospice care expert is absent in the proposed law. There is no requirement to notify family members either. Excerpts from the US Catholic Conference of Bishops on this issue: Assisted suicide would demean the lives of vulnerable patients, exposing them to exploitation by those who feel they are better off dead. The poor, the elderly, those lacking insurance and those with disabilities would be the first to feel pressure to die. In an era of cost control and managed care, patients with lingering illnesses may be branded an economic liability, and decisions to encourage death can be driven by cost. With modern pain control methods, physical suffering can be brought under control for all dying patients. Parishioners are urged to contact their representatives NOW to voice opposition to this deadly piece of legislation. Send an email through https://votervoice.net/njcc/home or call the NJ Legislature at 609-847-3905 (Toll Free 800792-8630) for the contact information for your Legislators. 640 Page 6 Church of Saint Aloysius, Jackson, New Jersey The 2015 Mass book is now open. Each parishioner is asked to respect and adhere to the policy of 2 Masses per family as we may only accept one intention per Mass in accordance with Canon Law. With the limited amount of Masses available in a year (572) and the size of our parish (over 5000 families), we have instituted many ways for a long term remembrance of a loved one. We ask that you consider selecting one of these alternatives: Perpetual Enrollment – 12 Masses celebrated the 1st Friday of each month at 8:00am ($25.00 donation for 12 Masses). Nursing Home Masses – Masses are celebrated the first Tuesday at the Bartley Nursing facility and the fourth Tuesday at the CareOne facility, both in Jackson ($10.00 donation per Mass). Spiritual Remembrance - remember a significant milestone for the living or deceased by dedicating the items we use for worship. A card is provided noting the item and time of dedication, and the names are printed in the bulletin. The Gift of Bread and Wine – Can be offered for one week (Sunday through Saturday) for a donation of $50.00 Devotional Lamps are silent sentinels lifting up our prayer intentions to the Lord even when we cannot be physically present in the church. You can honor or remember a loved one with one of the Devotional or Shrine Candles in the Church. Sanctuary, Blessed Mother and Holy Family Devotional Candles will be lit in honor or memory of your loved one ($25.00 donation for one week) Shrine Candles – Located at the entrance of the Church, these candles will be lit in honor or memory of your loved one and includes a label listing your loved one’s name for a period of one year ($250.00 donation per year) Altar Rosary Garden – Remember loved ones, a special occasion or, any important milestone with an engraved brick in the commemorative area of the garden ($125.00 per paver) Stars of St. Aloysius – Honor or remember someone who may have been a light in your life with a light pendant in the church. There are a limited number of lights available in several areas of the church ($500.00 donation). Please call the parish secretary, Pat Mulholland, at the Parish Office for request forms & additional information. In Memoriam Connee Scivoletti, Patricia Small, Elizabeth Jaklitsch, Lola Della Rocca Thomas Genovese, Jane Schenck, Pasquale Caiazzo Please remember in your prayers those friends of our parish who have died. The deceased members of our Parish, The Souls in Purgatory, and those who died in the Service of our Country. May they enjoy peace in new life with Christ Jesus. Many years ago I spent the month of July volunteering in North Carolina working with migrant farm workers. Because of my circumstances I was very aware of farms and planting and weather. Each day when I would read the daily Scripture readings I would marvel at how much emphasis was placed on nature and farming. Naturally those readings were the same even when I was in New Jersey but there among the farm workers the Scripture seemed especially alive. Today’s readings from Isaiah and the Gospel of Matthew brought me back to the fields of North Carolina. Isaiah, in simple terms, lays out the cycle of life for us. From rain right through to bread on the table he points out the connectedness of all things in life. We know that the things of Church – sacraments and statues and candles remind us of God. Let’s remember that the things of life – rain and soil and seed and bread also are signs of God’s presence and proclaim the connectedness of all. Kids: Nature speaks to us of God. Be sure to spend some time outdoors and notice what you can learn about God. Teens: Pay attention to the readings at Mass. If you’d like to read Scripture you can easily find the readings for any given Sunday on the Internet. Ask yourself how the readings connect to your experience this summer. Adults: As you gather at table this summer be sure to give thanks for all of God’s gifts. Take nothing for granted. Don’t forget to pray for those whose labor brought the food to your table. Parents, help your kids to understand that food didn’t just come from the grocery store. An appreciation of the source of our food can be a religion lesson.
