This prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture is a proven means to encounter God in daily life and will benefit those new to prayer and those more experienced alike. Here are a few essential Bible verses that all Catholics should learn to help in explaining and defending their Faith. Learn one verse in each category — and keep this list handy; you might just need it! The Catholic Church compiled the Bible and has faithfully preserved it for 2,000 years. We hear several Bible readings every time we attend Mass. As Catholics, we seek to study the entire Word of God, in context, and seek the correct interpretation through the help God has provided for us in our Pope and Bishops — the Magisterium or teaching authority, of Jesus’ One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. CD’s are available in the Gathering Space for $3.00 each. RECONCILIATION: CONFESSING SINS TO GOD’S PRIESTS: Making things right with God –and His Church and people (Jesus speaking to the disciples:) “Then he breathed on them and said: ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive men's sins, they are forgiven them; if you hold them bound, they are held bound.’ ” – John 20:22-23 “I assure you, whatever you declare bound on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you declare loosed on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” -Matthew 18:18 “Hence, declare your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may find healing.” – James 5:16 http://valleycatholicradio.org/bible-verses-to-know/ Year of Mercy Mary, Mother of Mercy In her Diary, St. Faustina writes that Mary told her, “I am not only the Queen of Heaven, but also the Mother of Mercy, and your Mother" (Diary of St. Faustina, 330). “Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope” begins the Hail Holy Queen prayer. This May in the Jubilee Year of Mercy, we will reflect on Our Blessed Mother as our Mother of Mercy. Mary is the Mother of Mercy in a very literal sense. As Pope Francis tells us, “Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy. … Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus at Nazareth, reaching its culmination in him.” (cf. Op. Cit., n. 1) Jesus is Mercy Incarnate. Therefore Mary, his mother, is quite literally the Mother of Mercy. Pope Quote "When someone asks, 'How does one become a good Christian?' the answer is simple: do what Jesus says in his discourse on the Beatitudes. The Lord knows sin and grace, and he knows the paths that lead to sin and to grace. 'Blessed are the merciful, for they will find mercy' . . . It's always important to think that we are all an army of forgiven! All of us have been forgiven! And this is why he who takes this path of forgiveness is blessed." — Pope Francis May 1, 2016 PAGE 5 PARISH NEWS Our Stewardship of Sharing Weekly Offering Report Weekly Offering Contributions-April 2016 First Week Offering 9,592 Electronic Giving (4/1-4/5) 6,279 Second Week Offering 9,182 Electronic Giving (4/6-4/12) 7,296 Third Week Offering 9,045 Electronic Giving (4/13-4/19) 3,582 Fourth Week Offering 8,144 Electronic Giving (4/20-4/26) 3,876 Budget Income for April* 59,000 Amount needed for April Offering Budget $2,004 *Budgeted offering income needed to meet monthly budgeted expenses Lot Lights Donations thru 4/26/2016 www.stpiuslombard.org Year to Date Sunday Offering Budget July 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016 Revenue $556,826 Budget 570,097 Over (under) Budget for year (13,271) Easter Collection thru 4/26/16: $20,165 Budgeted amount $20,000 The Easter Season does not end until Pentecost. Surrounded by Peter and the remaining Apostles, she recounts the beauty and mystery of her experiences with her Son. During her last earthly days, she helps the early Church regain their original encounter with the Lord. This film takes what we know through scripture and tradition and artfully tells a story with great depth and insight, drawing viewers into deep spiritual reflection on their own personal walk with Christ. At the end of the evening participants will be asked for a good will offering to support the continued work and mission of Outside da Box (sponsors of our film presentation). There will also be copies of FULL OF GRACE for sale along with other related merchandise. All parishioners are invited to this free presentation!!
