How do you explain the Holy Trinity to a child?
Fan or Follower?
In this talk, Jeff Cavins shares how he has come to see that
Jesus wants us to surrender every bit of our own comfort to
follow Him. There are many fans of Jesus in this world, but we
are called to be His disciples.
I've heard of a few ways to describe the Trinity so a child can
grasp the basic idea that God is three persons with one nature.
1. Water, ice, steam. All three are the same substance, but
function differently from each other. Water is fluid while ice
is hard and steam is a vapor, but they're all the same thing.
2. An egg: It has a shell, a yolk, and the white, but all three
produce the same thing--a chicken. The shell protects the
growing embryo, the yolk feeds the developing bird, and the
white is what the chick is
formed from.
3. The 3 leaf clover that
St. Patrick used works, too.
All 3 leafs come from the
same stem and are the
same plant, etc.

Reflecting on God’s Word
When I was much younger, I used to think that God was totally invisible, not to be experienced as the people in the bible did. After
all, they heard God's voice in the fiery cloud; they saw the waters parted so they could pass through--all the things that Moses talks
about in the first reading. But then I ask myself, do I want my faith to be based on special effects? Or do I want to trust Jesus, who
told Thomas, "Blessed are they who have not seen and have believed." (Jn 20:29)
Jesus was referring to his resurrection appearances, but it also applies to the Holy Trinity. When we see a newborn child, she can
remind us of God the Father creating the earth and all living things. When we see the cross, we recall Jesus saving death and
resurrection. When we share our faith with someone, we know that it is the Holy Spirit who gives us the words to speak and the
courage to speak them. Seeing God's work around us, we can still experience God in Three Persons.
The three are not just equal parts of God, one-third of God each. Three infinite Persons are united in one substance or being, so the
love they have for each other is infinite. Everything God does is done by all three Persons. So you could say that everything the
Trinity does, is done out of love.

REFLEXION
acerque a nosotros.

with you next school year!
For the 2015-2016 school year, St. Francis High School
seeks qualified host families to provide a safe and nurturing
home environment for international high school students
attending our school from abroad. All families are expected to
provide room, board, and transportation to and from school
activities. Host families should be enthusiastic about cultural
diversity and be willing to support the students in academic and
co-curricular activities when needed. International students pay
for their tuition, health insurance, and spending money. All
students are proficient English language speakers and will
travel home during the Christmas break.
Participating families may be offered compensation of up
to $1,000 per month for 10 months to help cover the costs of
room and board. St. Francis High School will also provide you
with a dedicated support staff, host family training, meetings,
and group activities for you and your students to connect with
other participating families.
If you would like to take advantage of the unique
opportunity to make a difference in a young person’s life,
please request more information and an application from
[email protected].
For reservations/information, call Jim & Kris at 630-577-0778
or contact us through http://wwme-chicagoland.org .
