Fan or Follower? In this talk, Jeff Cavins shares how he has come to see that Jesus wants us to surrender every bit of our own comfort to follow Him. There are many fans of Jesus in this world, but we are called to be His disciples. I've heard of a few ways to describe the Trinity so a child can grasp the basic idea that God is three persons with one nature. 1. Water, ice, steam. All three are the same substance, but function differently from each other. Water is fluid while ice is hard and steam is a vapor, but they're all the same thing. 2. An egg: It has a shell, a yolk, and the white, but all three produce the same thing--a chicken. The shell protects the growing embryo, the yolk feeds the developing bird, and the white is what the chick is formed from. 3. The 3 leaf clover that St. Patrick used works, too. All 3 leafs come from the same stem and are the same plant, etc. Information from www.Catholic.com As a young adult, Jeff left the Catholic Church and became a Protestant Pastor for 12 years. After returning to the Catholic Church, he became a nationally known speaker who has helped thousands come to a clearer understanding of Scripture and our Faith. CD’s are available in the Gathering Space for $3.00 each. Reflecting on God’s Word When I was much younger, I used to think that God was totally invisible, not to be experienced as the people in the bible did. After all, they heard God's voice in the fiery cloud; they saw the waters parted so they could pass through--all the things that Moses talks about in the first reading. But then I ask myself, do I want my faith to be based on special effects? Or do I want to trust Jesus, who told Thomas, "Blessed are they who have not seen and have believed." (Jn 20:29) Jesus was referring to his resurrection appearances, but it also applies to the Holy Trinity. When we see a newborn child, she can remind us of God the Father creating the earth and all living things. When we see the cross, we recall Jesus saving death and resurrection. When we share our faith with someone, we know that it is the Holy Spirit who gives us the words to speak and the courage to speak them. Seeing God's work around us, we can still experience God in Three Persons. The three are not just equal parts of God, one-third of God each. Three infinite Persons are united in one substance or being, so the love they have for each other is infinite. Everything God does is done by all three Persons. So you could say that everything the Trinity does, is done out of love. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. VBS/TOTUS TUUS IS COMING! July12-17,2015—RegisterNow!! What is Totus Tuus? From the Desk of the Business Manager Sunday Collections – at the end of April the Sunday Offertory is $20,300 under budget. If you missed any of your weekly contributions, please consider making that donation to help us make our budget. Restroom Project – the project is totally complete with the installation of the radiator covers. Thank you to everyone that contributed to this project. Theft Concern – there is evidence that someone has tried to break into the votive contribution box and the CD payment box. If you see any strangers around that look like they do not belong here, please notify a staff member immediately. Church Air Conditioning – no one should be adjusting the church air conditioning. The thermostat is adjusted to allow for outside air temperature and the setting should always be on automatic. Contact Sallie McGinn or myself to make adjustments. Building and Grounds – the Commission met in April and is setting priorities on parish projects. Two projects are on the top of the list: Social Center Air Conditioning and Parking lot lighting. Diocesan Priests – four men from our diocese were ordained priests on Saturday, May 2. Please keep the newly ordained priests in your prayers. Flower Beds – Stella Jelinek does an excellent job of planting and maintaining the flower beds around our parish grounds. This time of the year and in the fall the maintenance work is very time demanding. Can you spare a few hours to help us trim and pull weeds? Please call the Parish Office if you can give us a hand.
