Father Gary has been involved in both parish (St. Hedwig, Chicago, IL) and educational ministries (Weber High School, Gordon Tech High School Chicago, IL). In addition to his current duties in the formation ministry with the seminarians at Resurrection Seminary in St. Louis, MO, he serves as Vocation Director and the Provincial Vicar of the USA Province of the Congregation of the Resurrection. 7:00 PM – Mission - Eucharistic Prayer Service Tuesday, March 18 8:30 AM Holy Mass / homily 7:00 PM – Mission - Reconciliation Service Wednesday, March 19 8:30 AM Holy Mass / homily 7:00 PM – Mission - Holy Mass Light Our Way Stations of the Cross and Simple Suppers Please join our parish community for Stations of the Cross this Friday at 6:30 PM followed by a Simple Supper of soup, bread and water. Each week a different parish organization prepares the meal and serves the community. This week, St. Pius X School Board is hosting. Attending Stations of the Cross is a wonderful thing to do, especially during Lent. It commemorates 14 key events of the day of Christ’s crucifixion. The Stations originated in medieval Europe when wars prevented Christian pilgrims from visiting the Holy Land. European artists created works depicting scenes of Christ’s journey to Calvary. The faithful installed these sculptures or paintings at intervals along a procession route, inside the parish church or outdoors. Performing the devotion meant walking the entire route, stopping to pray at each “station.” This beautiful tradition at St. Pius X brings us together in our Lenten mission to engage in prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Free will donations will be collected to benefit our St. Vincent De Paul Society. If you have any questions, you may contact Leanne Newman at 630/638-8509 or [email protected]. www.stpiuslombard.org PAGE 6 The Vision of Hope Congregation of the Resurrection In 1999, the Congregation of the Resurrection created a new document entitled the “Vision of Hope.” This document focuses on the theological, as well as the practical, dimensions of what it means to be a community of hope. This year we will focus on the Congregation's concept of this “Vision of Hope” and the related texts of the Order, and what this means for everyone who participates in this Resurrectionist spirituality. The call to be a Resurrectionist is not based on the Resurrectionist’s choice, it is God’s choice. The response of the individual to the call of Christ personally to imitate his life of chastity, poverty and obedience by a life lived in the Congregation marks the beginning of the process of formation. Just as Samuel, when he first heard the call of the Lord, did not know who was speaking to him or what was required of him, so a man, when he enters religious life, needs help to understand the nature, the dignity and the importance of his vocation. Since the reality of this call is the basis of all formation, directors, in the name of the Congregation, must identify and confirm its presence. Good will on the part of a candidate is not enough. The Congregation believes that the words of Christ addressed to all Christians through Baptism, “It was not you who chose me, it was I who chose you" (Jn 15:16), are equally true of the call to religious life in the Congregation.
