Mass intentions/Intenciones para las Misas May 23-29 Fearless Trust Sometimes the most difficult setback in our relationships with God and others is that we are ashamed to ask for mercy. We tend to believe that even if we ask, we are not ‘good enough’ to receive mercy. It is easy to hear others speak of mercy and be moved by its beauty, however, when it comes to applying it to our own lives, we think, “Yes, but you don’t know what I have done.” We close the door and so cut ourselves off from this life-giving spring of love. But there is more to mercy than meets the eye. Webster defines mercy as “compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power.” That means the very nature of mercy is that it is a gift. We do not have to be ‘good enough’ to receive a gift because a gift is given freely. St. Thérèse of Lisieux loved the image of a child flinging herself into her father’s arms after she made a mistake. How could her father not forgive her because she has so much confidence in his love? This year of mercy is a reminder that, in the midst of our shame, we do not need to earn mercy. Rather, we must run to God fearlessly, trusting that in His great love for us, He will give the gift of mercy. As Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Mt. 7:7). Marriage Encounter Weekend MARRIED COUPLES: “How About Some Time For Just the Two of You?” How about a weekend that will focus on love, caring, and relationship? It will be the best gift you’ll give each other this year. Plan to go on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend and come back with a marriage that is refreshed and full of passion. The next Weekend is scheduled for June 10-12 at the Atlanta Marriott Peachtree Corners. You can get more information or register online at GATN-wwme.org or by calling 678-242-WWME.
