LENT isn't a me to "give things up" so we can try and EARN God's love! No! God's
love is ALREADY given to us, THROUGH BAPTISM! WHAT we give up should be connected to WHAT gets in the way of God's love in our lives!!!! Let me REPEAT that:

If there is something that is INTERFERING with your rela onship with Jesus, FAST
from that. Here are some common obstacles: not praying daily, not reading the
Scriptures regularly, anger, jealousy, lying, addic ons, swearing, neglec ng Spouse
and/or family, etc. !!!!!
When I use to give up SWEETS for lent, I couldn't wait ll EASTER, not because I
wanted to celebrate the Resurrec on, BUT because I wanted to eat my Girl Scout
Thin Mint Cookies! To be honest I s ll give up certain sweets, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, I also FAST from those things that over the past year have go en in the
way of my rela onship with Jesus. So let me ask you again: WHAT ARE YOU GIVING
UP THIS LENT AND WHY?

This Lent we want to invite you to do
something BIG - #ShareJesus. This is an
incredible, FREE opportunity for you to
both experience and share Jesus with
friends, family, and coworkers.
Each day of Lent, beginning Ash Wednesday and running through Easter Sunday,
you will get a 2-3 minute video from a top
Catholic speaker emailed to you. Videos
are based on the upcoming Sunday’s Gospel, and they are created for sharing and
discussion on social media, giving you the
ability to #ShareJesus within your social
circles. Even if you aren’t on social media,
you can share the videos via email.
Stations of
the Cross
The Stations of the
Cross began as the
practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the
final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary.
Later, for the many who wanted to pass
along the same route, but could not make
the trip to Jerusalem, a practice developed that eventually took the form of the
fourteen stations currently found in almost
every church.
Similarly, the 150 Hail Marys that were
recited for the rosary were an adaptation
of the medieval monastic practice of reciting the 150 psalms in the Psalter.

During Lent, when your friends or coworkers express curiosity about Catholic
customs and symbolism, use those moments as opportunities to evangelize!
Following are six common questions
Catholics hear during Lent and some
evangelizing answers.
Ash Wednesday:
What’s with that dirt on your
head? When the ashes are placed on
our foreheads in the sign of the Cross, it
is a reminder of several things. First, it is
a call to repentance: a physical sign that
we are sinners in need of forgiveness.
Second, it is to remind us that God created us from the earth and when we die,
we will return to it.
Abstinence:
So why aren’t you eating pepperoni pizza on Friday? On Fridays during Lent, we particularly remember the
sacrifice of Christ on the cross. Abstaining from meat on Fridays is an outward
manifestation of an interior reality: the
conversion of our hearts. Christ himself
fasted and prayed in the desert. Through
fasting and praying, we unite ourselves
with the sacrifice of Christ and offer him
reparation for our sins and failings.
External Sacrifice:
So why exactly are you not eating
candy for the next month? Giving
up something we enjoy strengthens our
love for Christ and our resilience against
temptation. As Pope Benedict XVI said in
his Lenten address of 2009, “Through
fasting and praying, we allow [Christ] to
come and satisfy the deepest hunger that
we experience in the depths of our being:
the hunger and thirst for God.” It unites us
with Christ’s own sacrifices and gives us
a deeper appreciation of the blessings in
our lives.

Antes de que decida QUÉ es lo que va a dejar, pregúntese a sí mismo ¿POR QUÉ
estoy dejando estas cosas?
La Cuaresma no es el empo para dejar de hacer cosas y ganarnos el amor de
Dios, ¡No! ¡El amor de Dios ya está dado por El en el Bau smo! ¡Lo que vamos a
dejar debe de estar relacionado con lo que se interpone entre nosotros y al
amor de Dios en nuestras vidas! ¡Déjenme que lo repita otra vez!, ¡LO que vamos a dejar debe de estar relacionado con lo QUE se interpone entre nosotros
y el amor de Dios en nuestras vidas!
Si hay algo que INTERFIERE con su relación con Jesús, pase sin eso. Aquí enen
algunos obstáculos comunes: El no rezar diariamente, el no leer las Escrituras
con regularidad, la cólera, los celos, las men ras, las adicciones, maldiciones,
negligencia de cónyuge y familiares, etc.
Cuando yo solía no comer dulces en Cuaresma, esperaba con ansiedad que llegara la Pascua de Resurrección, no porque quería celebrar la Resurrección del
Señor, ¡Sino que quería comer las “Girl Scout Cookies”! Honradamente he dejado de comer algunos dulces pero lo más importante es que también ayuno de
cosas que en años pasados se habían entrome do en mi relación con Jesús. Déjenme que le pregunte otra vez: ¿A QUE RENUNCIAS EN ESTA CUARESMA Y
POR QUÉ?
¡Que tengan una BUENA temporada de Cuaresma!

6 Maneras de Evangelizar durante la Cuaresma
(Parte I)
¡Durante la Cuaresma, cuando sus amigos o compañeros de trabajo expresan curiosidad acerca de las costumbres y el simbolismo católico, utilice esos momentos como
oportunidades para evangelizar! Las siguientes son preguntas comunes que católicos
escuchan durante la Cuaresma y algunas respuestas evangelizadoras.
Miércoles de Ceniza: ¿Por que tienes tierra en la frente? Cuando las cenizas se
colocan en la frente en el signo de la Cruz, es un recordatorio de varias cosas. En
primer lugar, se trata de un llamado al arrepentimiento: un signo físico que somos
pecadores necesitados de perdón. En segundo lugar, es para recordarnos que Dios
nos creó de la tierra y cuando morimos, vamos a volver a ella
Abstinencia: ¿Por qué no estás comiendo pizza de pepperoni el viernes? Los
viernes durante la Cuaresma, en particular nos recuerda el sacrificio de Cristo en la
cruz. abstenerse de comer carne los viernes es una manifestación externa de una
realidad interior: la conversión de nuestros corazones. Cristo mismo ayunó y oró en
el desierto. A través del ayuno y la oración, nos unimos con el sacrificio de Cristo y le
ofrecemos reparación por nuestros pecados y fracasos.

La Viña de Raquel nos ofrece un lugar seguro donde se
logra reconstruir y redimir los corazones rotos por mo vo
de un aborto. Allí se ofrece un ambiente confidencial
donde no se le juzga y donde, tanto hombres como mujeres, pueden expresarse y reconciliar aquellas emociones
que han surgido después de un aborto y así comenzar el
proceso de renovación y sanación. El próximo re ro en
español será del Abril 24-26, 2015.
