When I was appointed to be your next
pastor on April 30, there were two
things I already knew that Saint Clement
was famous for:
1) The make your own strawberry shortcake booth at the Strawberry Fes val. AND
2) The our Lady of Guadalupe celebraon at the stadium
For the past 10 years I have visited the
Strawberry Fes val and have pigged out
on strawberry shortcake at the Saint
Clement booth.
This will be my first year to experience
the "Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebraon". To learn more about the celebraon I have been a ending their
mee ngs.
One of the first things I learned was that
originally this celebra on was thought of
as a fundraiser for the parish, but it became immediately apparent to the organizers that a er the first one, it was
really a FAITH RAISER and not a fundraiser. Yes, over the years they have
been able to raise the needed capital to
cover their costs and through wise stewardship they also have been able to save
some funds. Being new, I asked, “What
they did with the funds they did raise?”
Here is a par al list of the numerous
dona ons they have made to a variety of
ministries at Saint Clement over the past
seven years:

On Father’s Day have purchased roses
and “Best Dad Ever” bu ons that were

Donated Scholarship money to the
Youth Ministry
Helped fund Youth Group banquets

Purchased the Our Lady of Guadalupe
Statue and covered the repair cost of
both Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe statue’s
• Helped Migrant Ministries with the purchase of the Our Lady of Guadalupe
miniature statue
• Funded La Virgen Peregrina for their
weekend retreats, guest faith forma on speakers, and general expenses
• Covered the expenses of the Chorus’
new Mariachi uniforms, instruments
and the recording of their CD
• Par cipates in the Plant City Parade to
help promote Saint Clement and the
Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebra on
• Promote and award annually the San
Juan Diego de Hoy Award
• Par cipates with the City of Plant City
in their 4th of July celebra on by assis ng with parking

• Reserves funds for seed money for the
next Celebra on,
• Have purchased needed items for the
celebra on and pay for off campus
storage, because of the lack of sufficient storage at the Church
• Have been saving each year for a special gi to the parish. They hope to announce this gi at Christmas me!!!!
I was amazed that although they have
been able to raise modest funds, the real
focus for the celebra on is on being a
FAITH RAISER for our community, by
helping people: Catholic and nonCatholic, Hispanic and nonHispanic, understand the important role
of Mary in our lives as our Spiritual Mother, under her tle of “Our Lady of Guadalupe”.
I hope you will support them, as I am
with my prayers and my presence at the
Celebra on. They have asked me to be on
the float in the Plant City Christmas parade and I've also bought one of their Tshirts :-)
