Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
Most of us have no trouble visualizing Zacchaeus, a short man
who climbed the sycamore tree so he could see Jesus as the
Lord passed. Zacchaeus was on the verge of something important, but he probably did not go up in the tree so Jesus would
notice him; he climbed the tree because he was seeking Jesus.
Zacchaeus was wealthy; he was wealthy because he had overcollected taxes from the people. They hated him, but as Jesus
reminds us all at the end of the Gospel passage, “For the Son
of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.” Zacchaeus
was not a good steward of his blessings.
Jesus was aware of that when he went to Zacchaeus’ home to
be fed. Something important happened to Zacchaeus; he went
through a conversion experience – an encounter with Christ,
an event that changed his life. He began to share with special
regard to the poor. He began to reach out to those whom he
had mistreated. That’s what stewardship can do for us, too. We
must undergo a transformation of mind and heart. Then we
must reach out to God, to one another, and especially to those
who are destitute, both spiritually and actually. As Blessed
Mother Teresa once said, “Love is not patronizing, and charity
isn’t about pity; it is about love.”

Time to Order Christmas Wreaths
Boys Scout Troop 841 will again be taking orders for
Christmas wreaths and greenery. These beautiful items are
shipped here directly from Minnesota and will last well
through the Christmas season.
These items can then be picked up the weekends of November 30/December 1 and December 7/8. Payment is due
at the time of delivery. You may also order gift items to be
sent to out of town relatives, friends or business acquaintances. Gift orders must be paid at the time the order is
placed. Products may also be purchased using a credit/debit
card on the troop’s website: www.troop841.org. Click on the
Holiday Wreaths link on the left side. As always, the troop
will donate the wreaths that St. Ann’s uses to decorate the
courtyard area. Thank you for your support.
Wanted: Couples interested in their marriages
Teams (Teams of our Lady)
is a group of 5-7 couples that meet monthly to share their
news, a potluck meal, prayer, and study a topic with a
family/marriage/spiritual focus. The couples form a unit
that is supportive and caring, where ideas are exchanged
and thoughts are challenged. As part of an international
movement recognized by the Pope, we strive to live the
vocation of marriage in a world that often does not support
it. There are couples of all ages in Teams, with and without
children. If you are interested in more information, please
contact Chusi & Tom Gehrlein at 972-393-3579 or [email protected].

With God’s perspective, we will be able to trace His hand on
our lives and see that He has swept up the bad things of life
and transformed them to good. We will be able to live not
without, but above regrets, and live in God’s peace and joy.
