A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
Summer is flying by us. I hope you are enjoying
some good time with family and friends. I know I
am soaking up all the good Cubs season.
Sunday, August 14, is what is becoming our
annual FIESTA. We will have bilingual Mass, followed by great food and time together with our
Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters. Last year
the food was great and this year we will also have
the bilingual Mass, which so many have asked
for more. Please come by to enjoy the food, see
one another and catch up on the summer.
We are blessed with so many great people
here. We just need to get to know who we all are.
Fr. Ruben is very excited along with many who
have planned this event, so please come. The
day is always better when we see Fr. Ruben full
of joy and we have great food as a bonus.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul
GOSPEL MEDITATION
"You also must be prepared, for at an hour you
do not expect, the Son of Man will come." The
only thing we really know about when Jesus will
come again is that we won't be expecting it. As
Jesus instructs us today, the best plan of action is
thus to be prepared at all times. We need to be
ready and waiting to meet Jesus so that when he
does return, it won't catch us off guard.
A little thought experiment might be helpful
here. Let's imagine that the doorbell rings this
evening after dinner. We open the door and find
Jesus standing there. He asks to come in. Are we
ready for this honored guest? What will he find
when he steps in unannounced? Is everyone at
peace around the house? Is everyone speaking
with love and acting with generosity? Is there anything in our home that, in his presence, we
might be ashamed of--books, shows, movies, or
music that aren't appropriate? Pictures, Facebook posts, or a record of Internet history that we
hope he won't discover?
Now, imagine that he came unannounced into
our HEARTS this evening. What wouldhefind there?
Are our hearts ready to welcome Jesus? In truth,
we need not wait for the second coming to have
Jesus in our hearts. He wants to live there today!
So regardless of the timing of the second coming of Christ, we would do well to follow the traditional spiritual practice of a daily examination of
conscience to see where we are doing well and
where we need to make changes. Taking such a
deliberate spiritual inventory is an excellent way
to help us be ready for Jesus like those servants
"who await their master's return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and
knocks."

Your Gifts Help SVdPS Provide Assistance
Faced with the loss of her job and little income from Social
Security, a middle-aged resident recently pawned her jewelry to make ends meet. When times are so difficult, even the
material belongings that mean the most are sacrificed to
the basics food and shelter. And when that money was
gone, this women reached out to the St. Vincent de Paul
Society for help with her homeowners insurance, applying
for Medicare and for food. Thanks to your generosity, food
and assistance has helped this woman remain in her home.
I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor will I
satisfy with food. Ps 132:15
