A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
There sure is a ton of activity going on these
days, but I would like to take a timeout to
focus on something we are doing this weekend.
Every year we have a Mass when we bless the
police and fire personnel of the McHenry area.
This year we are coinciding with another event
thanking them for their service.
We are very blessed to have wonderful people
serving our community to help and protect us
in our times of need. We are blessed to be led
by Police Chief John Jones, who is a parishioner and Fire Chief Tony Huemann, who is a
parishioner at St. John the Baptist, Johnsburg.
This year I would like to focus on the fraternal support they give each other. I have done a
few funerals this year for retired and current
police officers and fire fighters. I am very
touched by how they come together to support
the family in these moments. A couple months
ago LJ Marak, a Huntley police officer and
parishioner here, died at the age of 40 from
cancer, leaving a beautiful family of his wife
and 3 boys. It is amazing how the police came
that day for his funeral, but much more impressive how they have taken care of his family before and since his death.
Our police and fire personnel are very dedicated and serve us well. They also are a family
that takes care of each other. They can teach
us a lot.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul

HALO Invites You to Celebrate...
We Share Our Blessings
...our two new deacons, Daniel Torres and Mark Kinnare,
between the 10 AM and noon Masses today. Come enjoy
cake and coffee to celebrate their ordinations.
Our Parish Tithe this week will be given to the Teen
March for Life.
Your Gifts Help Provide Basic Needs
A well-stocked pantry and refrigerator is something many
of us take for granted. But for others, there is rarely enough
food to last the week, no matter how carefully each purchase and each meal is planned. For those struggling to
feed their families, the St. Vincent de Paul Society is there
to help. Vincentians provide bags of food and a gift certificate to either Aldi's or Angelo's on each visit to a neighbor
in need. These food deliveries and compassionate prayer,
help lift families, feeding their spirits and their stomachs in
their time of need. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be
blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9
Offer Your Intentions with Candles
Four candles surround the Blessed Sacrament in the All Saints
Perpetual Adoration Chapel, each burning for 14 days. Request your own personal intentions for their duration by
contacting the Parish Office at 815-385-5673. The suggested donation is $15 per candle. From October 23--November
5, with these candles, your prayers have been requested by
Debbie Byrne, Traskaski Family and Ruith Wohnrade.
Great Lakes Catholic Men’s Conference
Men, could you use a day to regain perspective and balance?
Experience a new encounter with our Risen Lord. A line-up
of dynamic speakers will share insights into living out authentic masculinity and heroic virtue, drawing from their
own faith journeys. Mass, confession, the rosary, and private time will give you the opportunity to reflect on what is
going on in your life and how Christ can help. Attend the
Great Lakes Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday, November 19, beginning at 8:50 AM, at the Holmes Student
Center, DeKalb, IL. Cost is $35 if mailed or registered by

Trunk-or-Treat at Holy Apostles
Kids of all ages are invited to Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 29, from 7 to 8 PM in the Sherry Center
parking lot. “Trunk-or-Treat” is when kids walk from
car to car asking for treats. Anyone can participate in
Trunk-or-Treating, just bring your car and your treats
to pass out. This is a great alternative to house-tohouse trick-or-treating, especially for younger children
who tire from walking. Candy and monetary donations
are welcome! For information call Aaron Downing or
Emily Stuckey at 815-385-5673.
All Souls Day Mass
On Wednesday, November 2, Holy Apostles will observe the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed
(All Soul’s Day) with a special Mass at 7 PM. Our deceased loved ones, especially those who have gone
before us this year, will be remembered. We invite you
to bring a photo of your loved one to be displayed.
Bring your photos to the Parish Office by Monday,
October 31 with your name and phone number written
on the back of the photo frame. We will give recognition to God’s great love for all of us, deceased or
living, and pray for the eternal happiness of our
deceased loved ones.
Knights of Columbus Coat Drive
From October 29 through November 6, the Knights of
Columbus of McHenry will hold a Coat Drive. Please
donate new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves
and blankets in the wardrobe collection boxes in the
narthex. Contact Mike Dolak, 815-363-8810 or Tom
Bohn, 815-344-3629 with any questions. Distribution
of the items collected will be on November 19 at the
Thanksgiving Holiday Meal packing. Thank you in advance for your generous support of those in need.
Come Plan Dinner/Dance
There will be a meeting this Wednesday, October 26
at 7:30 PM in St. Ambrose room (Apostles Bay) to
generate ideas and begin planning for Holy Apostles’
first annual dinner dance on February 18, 2017. If
you’re unable to attend but would like to help, please

Wills and Trusts Seminar Offered
Come to the Catholic Youth Summit!
What happens if I die without a will?

What is a trust and what are the different types?

Who will decide the guardians of my children?

How do I include my church and charities in my will?

What is a Durable Power of Attorney and an
Advance Directive?
Stewardship is the efficient management of one’s
affairs. As wise planning, hard work and education go
into the accumulation of an estate, so the same wise
planning and dedication should go into the use and
disposition of that estate. Please join us as attorneys
Heather B. Kroencke and Tamara A. Marshall come to
explore these questions on Tuesday, October 25, at
10 AM. There is no charge to attend this seminar.
Eighth-grade and high school teens: Enjoy an exciting day

Knights Ask for Support of “Holiday Meals”
Plan ahead to start your Christmas shopping at the
expanded HALO (Holy Apostles Ladies Organization)
Holiday Craft & Bake Sale, Saturday, November 19,
8 AM to 6:30 PM and Sunday, November 20, 8:30 AM
to 1:30 PM in Sherry Center. The women of HALO have
been hard at work creating amazing and unique gift
items that will be available for purchase: No HALO Sale
would be complete without all the delicious sweets and
baked goods we all love to enjoy at our holiday meals.
HALO members will be busy baking but also rely on
your donations of breads, cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, fudge and more to offer at the sale.
Please consider making baked good donations and
dropping them off on Friday, November 18, 6 to 8 PM,
or anytime on Saturday, November 19. All funds that
HALO raises from this sale will benefit our parish.
Knights of Columbus Council 1288 of McHenry will again
be raising funds to provide holiday meals to those in need
in our community. This will be the 9th year the Knights
will undertake this rewarding and much-appreciated project. Their mission is simple: they raise money to purchase food and, through a partnership with Meijer Stores,
they are able to stretch the money that is donated a long
way. The food is packed in such a way that each family
receives everything they need to prepare a proper holiday
meal. One hundred percent of the funds donated is used
purchase food that benefits needy families in our own McHenry area. Any
amount you can give, no matter how
small, is greatly appreciated. The distribution of the Thanksgiving meals will be
on Saturday, November 19, and the
Christmas meal distribution will be on
Saturday, December 17. Everyone is
welcome to come help sort and pack the meals. Please
mail your donations to Knights of Columbus Council
1288, P. O. Box 148, McHenry IL 60051. The Knights
hope they can count on your support!

diversa, obteniendo resultados opuestos”.
habla.”
