¡Carnavales!
Edificios de luz y hielo
El Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)
inauguró en noviembre una de las
mayores muestras sobre la civilización
maya en Norteamérica. Se trata de “Maya:
Secretos de su Antiguo Mundo”, realizada
en colaboración con el Instituto Nacional
de Antropología e Historia de México y
en la que se exhiben más de 250 piezas
(algunas nunca antes vistas) que revelan
los numerosos aspectos de la vida maya
que hasta fines del siglo 19 ha estado
envuelta en misterios. Su sistema de vida,
ritos y creencias -incluyendo una mirada
en el tiempo a lo que ellos creyeron
ocurriría el 2012- son examinados en esta
interesante exhibición. Abierta al público
hasta el 9 de abril.

popular del mundo, la posibilidad de
vivir celebraciones llenas de baile, color
y tradición, abundan durante febrero.
Si es que quiere descubrir más allá del
festival carioca, una buena alternativa es
el Carnaval de Barranquilla en Colombia,
declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad
por la UNESCO. Para los que estén en
Europa, y quieran revivir tiempos de
reyes, el Carnaval de Venecia –la fiesta
de máscaras que se remonta al siglo XI- o
el Carnaval de Terragona, en España, son
otras excelentes alternativas.

La ciudad china Harbin, aprovecha su
heladísimo invierno con el impresionante
“Festival de Hielos Iluminados”, donde
bloques gigantes de hielo son tallados
como edificios, iluminados para crear
una hermosa ciudad de hielo y nieve.
Por la noche, las enormes esculturas
brillan con rosados y amarillos, dando
vida a un mundo kitsch de fantasía.
Al mismo tiempo, en la localidad, se
realizan competencias internacionales
de escultura, donde se construyen
desde grandes estatuas de Buda, hasta

Maya world in Toronto
Carnival!
Light and ice buildings
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM)
inaugurated in November one of the largest
displays about Maya civilization in North
America. This is “Maya: Secrets of their
ancient world”, done in collaboration with
the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e
Historia de México, with more than 250

The Chinese city of Harbin makes the best
of its freezing winter with the impressive
“Harbin International Ice and Snow
Sculpture Festival,” where huge blocks
of ice are carved as buildings to create a
beautifully illuminated city of ice and snow.
At night, huge sculptures glow with pink and
yellow, giving life to a fantastic kitsch world.
At the same time, in town, international
sculpturing competitions are held with large
statues of Buddha and restaurants. Just

artista venezolano-francés Carlos CruzDiez en el MALBA: “Color en el espacio y
el tiempo”.
A través de alucinantes serigrafías y
pinturas, el artista logra asombrar al
espectador con su peculiar manejo del
color como organismo vivo, generando
efectos visuales que juegan con el
movimiento y los cambios de tonalidades,

archipiélago de magnífica biodiversidad.
Etnias hasta hace poco desconocidas y
una gran variedad de olas para surfear
recompensan al que, aceptando la
aventura, osa a entrar.
West to the coast of Sumatra, in
the Indian Ocean, Mentawai islands –
the “Galapagos of the East” – make an
archipelago of magnificent biodiversity.
Ethnicities until recently unknown and
a great variety of waves to surf reward

encuentro con el Sikerei, curandero, sabio
y patriarca del grupo familiar.
The Mentawai tribe, living in the jungle
core of the largest island in the archipelago,
is one of the ethnicities that preserves
more its ancient way of living. This was
our first encounter with the Sikerei, healer
and patriarch of the family group.

n lugar extremadamente inhóspito. Recorrer estos caminos polvorientos es un viaje hasta lo que
existe y dejó de estar. Aquí la simbiosis entre los
hombres y la furia del sol, el cielo y los gigantes
volcanes, el metálico viento de la pampa, provocan sensaciones espectaculares.
An extremely hostile environment, travelling these dusty
roads is a journey to what exists and what isn´t there anymore.
The merger between men and the raging sun, the sky and
huge volcanoes, the metallic winds over the dry planes, evoke
spectacular sensations.

En el desierto más árido del mundo, no
hay vida, no hay plantas ni insectos. Sin
embargo, de pronto surgen oasis que cobijaron humanos desde tiempos inmemoriales: a la cultura atacameña o “Likan
Antay”, Pueblos de los Oasís.
In the driest desert in the world, there is no
life, plants nor insects. Nonetheless, suddenly
oasis emerge that sheltered humans from
unmemorable times: the atacameña culture
or “Likan Antay”, the People of the Oasis.
Estos pueblos, nómades al principio y
sedentarios después, dan sentido a un
desierto desolado y furioso. Su gente
con un fuerte apego a la Madre Tierra –
Pachamama- luchan por conservar su
cultura, violentada constantemente.
These, nomads at first and then sedentary,
gave sense to the desolated and furious
desert. People with a strong bond to Mother
Earth –“Pachamama”- still fight to preserve
their culture, constantly threaten.

Desde San Pedro de Atacama se inicia
la búsqueda hacia los oasis, pueblos y
parajes más indómitos de Likan Antay.
From San Pedro de Atacama, begins the
search for the untamable oasis, towns and
landscapes of Likan Antay.
San Pedro es cosmopolita. Es también el
punto de partida para ir en búsqueda de
los Géiseres del Tatio, la Laguna Cejar y
el Salar de Atacama.
San Pedro de Atacama has many cultures,
and it is the starting point for the search of
the geysers, the Cejar lagoon and the Salar de
Atacama.
El camino hacia El Tatio es uno de
contrastes: volcanes en el horizonte,
bofedales, vicuñas mimetizadas en el
desierto, taguas y flamencos, son típicos
en éste rincón del planeta que parece de
otro mundo.
The road to the geysers of El Tatio is one
of contrasts: volcanoes at the horizon,
wetlands, vicunas blended with the desert
and flamingos, are usual in this corner of the
world that seems like from another planet.

El Tatio es el tercer complejo geotérmico de géiseres
más grande del mundo, y las comunidades atacameñas
de Toconce y Caspana son las encargadas de controlar
el ingreso de miles de viajeros. Este espectáculo se
encuentra sobre una caldera volcánica a 4.320 metros
de altura, en plena Cordillera de los Andes.
El Tatio is the third largest geothermic geyser complex
in the world, and the native communities of Toconce and
Caspana are the ones in charge of controlling the entrance
of thousands of travelers. This spectacle is found over a

To the east of the Cyclades, in Greece, this island retains a virgin and meek profile which is
characteristic of a destination that has not been reached by mass tourism. The landscape is mountainous,
dry yet fertile, surrounded by white sandy beaches and small villages where traditions and quiet life remain
strong. It is different from other Greek islands, such as Mykonos or Santorini, for that reason, some prefer to
spend a day in Amorgos and return at night to one of the other islands. Among the attractions that are not to
be missed, a Venetian castle built in the thirteenth century stands-out. From its towers you can get beautiful
views of the city and surrounding areas.

Croatia, this is a hidden treasure-trove in the Elaphite islands.
In the neighbouring Daksa, Sv Andrija, Ruda, Jakljan, Tajan,
Olipa, Kolocep and Sipan, only the latter two are inhabited, as is
Lopud, which only covers an area of 4.63 square kilometres. The
villa is located on the Northwest side of the bay and overlooks the
island of Sipan. Two hills are connected by a beautiful valley where
a footpath leads to a bay called Sunj, on the other end of the island.
This is the right place to enjoy the sea or simply enjoy a drink. The
north-eastern part is not easily accessible due to the reefs and rocks.

About 250 km off the coast of Somalia and 340 km

of the Gulf of Aden, these group of islands isolated from
the world, have a population whose ancestral language (the
socotri) and landscapes has remained the same for thousands
of years. Much of the Socotra archipelago belongs to Yemen,

A trip to Hong Kong would not be complete without a visit to this island. From the heights of Ngong
Ping, the giant Buddha Tian Tan, a bronze figure 34 meters tall, and weighing over 250 tons (the largest
outdoor Buddha in the world) blesses everyone with his right hand raised and his serene face, highlighted
by the slight tilt of his head and his half-open eyes. There are two ways of getting to the base, either
climbing 268 steps or by a paved road. The first is more emotional; at every step the Buddha gets more
imposing, filling the whole panorama. A few steps away stands the Po Lin Monastery, a religious complex
with a temple, the monks’ houses, a vegetarian restaurant and shops.

ietro Sorba es un reconocido periodista y
crítico enogastronómico que en 1992 dejó
su Italia natal y se instaló en la Argentina
para desentrañar el alma de la gastronomía
local. Recorrió cada rincón de la Ciudad de Buenos
Aires en busca de los sabores más auténticos, y así fue
publicando diversas guías bilingües (español – inglés),
como “Bodegones de Buenos Aires” (2008); “Parrillas de
Buenos Aires” (2009); “Pulperías, almacenes y manjares
de la provincia de Buenos Aires” (2010); “Pizzerías de
Buenos Aires” (2010) y “Sabores de Córdoba, el Camino
Real y su gente” (2011). Todos libros que encabezaron
las listas de ventas. Su última creación se llama
“Restaurantes de las colectividades de Buenos Aires”,
un recorrido por las recetas caseras que los inmigrantes
trajeron a la mesa de los porteños.

Pietro Sorba is a recognised food and wine journalist
and critic who left his native Italy in 1992 and settled in
Argentina to unearth the soul of local cuisine. He travelled
every corner of the city of Buenos Aires searching for the
most authentic flavours. Meanwhile, Pietro published
various bilingual guides (English - Spanish) such as:
“Bodegones de Buenos Aires” (2008); “Parrillas de Buenos

television work he hosted and co-hosted over 150
chapters of the following programs: “Sobremesa
de gourmets”, “Sobre gustos”, “Plato del Nuevo
Mundo” and “Chile y sus vinos” which were
broadcast on elgourmet.com. Currently, he
collaborates with the Italian newspaper’s Dining

El autor seleccionó 36 restaurantes y los observó
con su particular lupa sin olvidarse, por supuesto, de
las correspondientes comidas que en ellos se sirven. Sin
lugar a dudas, el de los restaurantes de las colectividades
es un fenómeno profundamente anclado a las costumbres
gastronómicas de los argentinos.
De esos 36 restaurantes; 28 están insertados o
conectados directa o indirectamente con círculos,
centros, asociaciones, entidades y organismos oficiales
de las distintas colectividades. Una condición que
potencia su personalidad y originalidad. Los ocho
restaurantes restantes no están inmersos en el ámbito de
un lugar que represente oficialmente a su colectividad.
Sin embargo fueron elegidos por ser emblemáticos
en el ámbito de comunidad étnica que representan.
Las razones: algunos son los únicos representantes de
una determinada cocina en la ciudad. Otros fueron los
primeros en su género en abrir sus puertas en la capital.
Esos restaurantes conforman un complejo entramado
de secuencias históricas, antropológicas y sociales
que, sumadas entre sí, dieron origen al paladar y a las
costumbres culinarias porteñas y argentinas.
The author selected 36 restaurants and studied them
through his looking glass without forgetting, of course,
the corresponding foods they serve. Undoubtedly, the
community restaurants are a phenomenon deeply rooted
in traditional Argentine gastronomy.
Of those 36 restaurants, 28 exist within or are
connected directly or indirectly with circles, associations,
institutions, entities and official bodies of the different
communities. This condition enhances their character
and originality. The eight remaining restaurants are
not immersed in a place that is officially represented by
their community. However, they were chosen because
they were emblematic for the type of ethnic community
that they represent. The reasons being: some are the only
representatives of a particular cuisine in the city; others
were the first of its kind opening their doors in the capital
city. These restaurants are part of a complex web of
historical, social and anthropological trends, which, once
combined, gave rise to the culinary traditions and palate
of Buenos Aires and Argentina.

“En este último libro narro un aspecto de la
gastronomía que no había sido cubierto. No
busqué reseñar restaurantes étnicos, sino
aquellos espacios que estuvieran insertos en
una asociación vinculada a una colectividad
determinada. En estos casos el vínculo con la
gastronomía es más fuerte, más genuino. Estos
lugares son una parte muy importante de la
cultura porteña, más allá de lo que puede brindar
un restaurante étnico, que tiene un fin netamente
comercial y que puede estar ubicado en cualquier
lugar”, comenta Sorba a Travel Time.
Entre los lugares que lo tomaron por
sorpresa, el autor rescata un restaurante
coreano. “Es increíble: todos hablan en
coreano, la dueña es coreana, quizás sepa dos
o tres palabras en español, los comensales
leen el diario de la comunidad, hasta el menú
está escrito en ese idioma oriental. Y sin
embargo están insertos en la zona céntrica
de Buenos Aires. Ese negocio representa lo
que quiero mostrar en este libro: espacios
gastronómicos que portan una identidad
pero que conviven en el ámbito local”.
Otra sorpresa para Sorba fue descubrir que
la comunidad italiana, que junto a la española
es la más importante, casi queda afuera del
libro. Sí, por más que en su momento el autor
haya afirmado tajantemente que en Buenos
Aires hay más pizzerías que parrillas; y pese
a que platos como la milanesa y las pastas
forman parte de la dieta cotidiana de los
porteños, la colectividad como institución no
cuenta con un restaurante. “Logré poner uno
solo en el libro, porque ese restaurante tiene
toda una historia institucional : nació gracias
a una iniciativa de la región de Cerdeña
y por lo tanto tenía un vínculo formal e
internacional”, señala.
Y ante tanta influencia extranjera, ¿existe
la gastronomía porteña? Responde Sorba:
“No hay dudas de que sí existe una cocina de
la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, que se enriqueció
con el aporte de varias colectividades que
conforman el tejido social. Además, hay una
nueva generación de cocineros que están
trabajando en identificar productos, en
elaborar y mejorar los platos autóctonos.
No estamos a la altura de una gastronomía
francesa o italiana, pero de a poco está
emergiendo una cocina nacional”. TT
“In this last book I refer to an aspect of the
food that was not covered until now. I did not
want to single out ethnic restaurants, but the
areas that were embedded in groups linked
to a particular culture. In these cases the
links with the cuisine are stronger and more
genuine. These are a very important part of
the culture of Buenos Aires, beyond what an
ethnic restaurant can provide, as they serve
a purely commercial purpose and could be
located anywhere,” said Sorba to Travel Time.
Among all the places that took him by
surprise, the author focuses on a Korean
restaurant. “It’s amazing: everyone speaks in
Korean, the owner is Korean - she might know
two or three words in Spanish, diners read the
community’s newspaper, even the menu is
written in the eastern language. However, it
is in the downtown area of Buenos Aires. That
type of restaurant is what I want to show in
this book: Gastronomic areas that carry an
identity but are integrated locally.”
Sorba was surprised by another thing:
the Italian community, which along with the
Spanish is the most important, almost stays
out of the book. Yes, even though once upon a
time the author categorically stated that in
Buenos Aires there are more pizzerias than
grills, and although “milanesas” and pastas are
part of the daily diet of the citizens in Buenos
Aires, the community, as an institution, does
not have a restaurant. “I was only able to put
one in the book, because that restaurant has
an institutional history: it was created thanks
to an initiative in the Sardinia region, and
therefore, it had an official international link,”
he says.
And with so much foreign influence, is there
such thing as typical Buenos Aires’ cuisine?
Sorba answers: “There is no doubt that there
is a Buenos Aires’ cuisine, which was enriched
by the contribution of several communities
that made up the society. In addition, there is
a new generation of chefs, who are working on
identifying products, and on developing and
improving the local dishes. We are not at the
same level of the French or Italian cuisine, but
a national cuisine is gradually emerging.” TT

Bob Gruen solía comprar una remera
con la leyenda “New York City” y se las
regalaba a sus amigos, allá por la década del 70.
Era una camiseta blanca con letras negras, nada
de otro mundo, pero que pasó a la inmortalidad
cuando John Lennon la usó para una sesión de
fotos en la terraza de su hogar neoyorquino. Esa
imagen del beatle con los brazos cruzados, delante
de unos rascacielos, se transformó en una imagen
icónica de la Gran Manzana y de la cultura rock.
Pero no fue la única fotografía histórica de Gruen.
Otra instantánea de Lennon haciendo el gesto de
la paz frente a la Estatua de la Libertad, cuando
el músico estaba luchando por su permanencia
en los Estados Unidos –la administración Nixon
buscaba deportarlo por sus ideas políticastambién es memorable.
Gruen asistió a su primer concierto a los 13
años, cuando el cantante folk americano Pete
Seeger llegó a su escuela con mensajes de paz,
amor y libertad. A partir de allí, la música con
contenidos se convertiría en la favorita de Bob,
para quien el rock & roll simboliza claramente un
modo de expresión de los sentimientos en voz alta.
En los 60, Gruen convivió con una banda de rock
a la que fotografió para un disco, y a partir de allí,
esta pasión se transformaría en un modo de vida.
Sus imágenes cautivaron a Ike y a Tina Turner, y
desde entonces Bob comenzaría a acompañarlos
y a fotografiarlos en sus giras.
Bob conoció a John Lennon y Yoko Ono en
Nueva York en 1972, durante un acto a beneficio
llevado a cabo en el Teatro Apollo. Gruen recuerda
haber tomado entonces una serie de instantáneas
de John, quien sugirió sin mucho entusiasmo
que las pasara por debajo de la puerta de su casa.
Más tarde Gruen se convirtiría en amigo personal
y fotógrafo de ambos, tomando imágenes tanto
de su vida personal como profesional: Lennon
improvisando frente al piano junto a Mick Jagger
o bien Lennon jugando en la cama con su bebe
Sean, fueron solo algunas de ellas.

Back in the ´70’s, Bob Gruen used to buy
t-shirts sporting the legend “New York
City” and gave them to his friends. They were
white t-shirts with black lettering, nothing
special, but they were immortalised when John
Lennon wore one of them for a photo shoot on
the roof of his home in New York. That picture
of the Beatle posing with crossed arms, behind
some skyscrapers, became an iconic image of
the Big Apple and rock culture. But that was
not Gruen’s only historic photograph. Another
snapshot of Lennon making the peace sign
in front of the Statue of Liberty, taken at the
time when the musician was fighting for his
US residency (Nixon’s administration sought
to deport him for his political views) is equally
memorable.
Gruen went to his first concert at age 13,
when the American folk singer Pete Seeger
came to his school with messages of peace, love
and freedom. From that moment, music with
content became Bob’s favourite. For him rock
& roll clearly symbolises a way of expressing
feelings aloud. Back in the ´60’s Gruen lived
with a rock band which he later photographed
for an album, and from there, his passion would
become a way of life. Ike and Tina Turner were
captivated by his images, and from then on Bob
began travelling with them and taking photos
on their tours.
Bob met John Lennon and Yoko Ono in New
York in 1972 during a charity event held at the
Apollo Theater. Gruen remembers having taken
a series of snapshots of John, who suggested
to Bob without much enthusiasm that he
deliver the photos under the front door of his
house. Later, Gruen became a personal friend
and photographer of both individuals, taking
pictures of them in personal and professional
life: Lennon improvising on the piano with
Mick Jagger or Lennon playing in bed with his
baby Sean were just a few of his pictures.

La muestra
Hasta el 15 de enero estará abierta la exposición “Rock Seen”, en el
Centro Cultural Borges de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. La exhibición
está integrada por 70 fotografías capturadas a lo largo de más de cuatro
décadas. Desde Muddy Waters a los Rolling Stones, de Elvis a Madonna,
de Bob Dylan a Bob Marley, de John Lennon a Johnny Rotten, Bob Gruen
retrató la escena musical en imágenes que le valieron reconocimiento
internacional. Compartió gira con bandas punk o new wave cubriendo las
mayores atracciones del rock y continúa fotografiando en la actualidad a
nuevos e inspiradores talentos.
Cabe destacar que en 2007, Bob presentó en Brasil en la Universidad de
Sao Paulo una muestra de su obra titulada “Rockeros”, que atrajo 40 mil
visitantes. Realizó además muestras de su obra en el Museo de Brooklyn
y en el MOMA (Museum of Modern Art), además de exhibiciones
realizadas en Tokio, los Países Bajos e Inglaterra.

The exhibition
“Rock Seen” will be open until January 15th at the Centro Cultural Borges
in the city of Buenos Aires. The exhibition consists of 70 photographs
taken through more than four decades. From Muddy Waters to the Rolling
Stones, Elvis to Madonna, Bob Dylan to Bob Marley, John Lennon to
Johnny Rotten, Bob Gruen portrayed the music scene in images that
gained him international recognition. He went on tour with new wave or
punk bands covering the major attractions of rock and today continues
photographing new and inspiring talents.
Notably, in 2007, at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, Bob presented a
sample of his work entitled “Rockers,” which drew 40,000 visitors. He also
showed samples of his work at the Brooklyn Museum and at the MOMA
(Museum of Modern Art), as well as exhibitions in Tokyo, the Netherlands
and England.

Como jefe de fotografía de la revista “Rock Scene
Magazine” en los años 70, Bob se dedicó a fotografiar a
aquellos grupos de rock que le resultaban más interesantes,
fueran célebres o desconocidos, a quienes retrató en
escenarios casuales. Así, fotografió a los Ramones en el
inicio de su carrera, cuando ni siquiera podían afrontar el
costo de una valija para la guitarra. Otros en cambio, ya eran
famosos como Led Zeppelin, quienes posaron frente a su
avión privado, un símbolo de los excesos de vida del rock de
los ´70.
Bob trabajó con las principales bandas punk, entre
ellos: los New York Dolls, The Clash, los Ramones, Blondie
y The Patti Smith Group. En 1976 viajó por primera vez a
Inglaterra entrando inmediatamente en contacto con la
escena punk y retratando así a grupos como los Sex Pistols.
Conoció por primera vez a Joe Strummer, líder de la banda
The Clash, en el Club Louise y tiempo después acompañaría
al grupo en dos giras realizadas por América Latina.
Fotografió además entre otros a Elton John, The Who,
David Bowie, Aerosmith, Kiss y Alice Cooper. En 1989
documentó el viaje épico a Rusia del Festival para la Paz de
Moscú, del cual participaron Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe y
Bon Jovi. Durante muchos años Bob fue el fotógrafo oficial
del Seminario New Music llevado a cabo en Nueva York,

As chief photographer for “Rock Scene Magazine” in
the ´70’s, Bob was devoted to photographing the rock bands
that he considered most interesting, whether famous or
unknown, portraying them in casual settings. Thus, The
Ramones were photographed by him at the beginning of
their career, at a time when the band could not even afford a
guitar case. Others, however, were already famous like Led
Zeppelin, who posed in front of their private jet, a symbol of
the excesses of rock life in the ‘70s.
Bob worked with the main punk bands, including:
The New York Dolls, The Clash, The Ramones, Blondie
and The Patti Smith Group. In 1976 he first travelled to
England, getting in touch immediately with the punk scene
and photographing bands like the Sex Pistols. He met Joe
Strummer, lead singer of The Clash, for the first time at Club
Louise, and later travelled along with the group on two tours
of Latin America.
Moreover, he photographed, among others: Elton John,
The Who, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Kiss and Alice Cooper.
In 1989, Gruen documented the epic journey to Russia for
the Moscow Peace Festival, attended by Ozzy Osbourne,
Mötley Crüe and Bon Jovi. For many years, Bob was the
official photographer for the New Music Seminar held in

plazas. Las majestuosas cataratas, en tanto, se iluminan
con los colores del arcoiris. Algunos villancicos se
escuchan a lo lejos, envolviendo el ambiente de magia
y encanto.
Se trata del Winter Festival of Lights, uno de los
festivales de luces más grandes de Canadá y que todos
los años atrae a millones de turistas ansiosos de ver a
Niágara llenarse de colores, y disfrutar de una noche
de entretención y de glamour en esta ciudad que nunca
duerme.
El epicentro del entretenimiento y del lujo se llama
Fallsview Boulevard, una de las zonas más nuevas
de Niágara y ubicada a menos de 500 metros de las
cataratas. Gracias a su elegante casino, refinados

n vivo ambiente acompaña el show
gastronómico que da inicio al segundo
Encuentro Empresarial DesiertoPatagonia. Entre tres chefs preparan
un rico pisco sour con Acantholippia Tarapacana,
más conocida como Rica Rica, planta nativa
del desierto. Al trago lo acompaña un sushi de
quinoa, además de albóndigas que se degustan
con una dulce salsa de arrope de chañar. El postre
mantiene la fusión entre alimentos tradicionales
y aliños del desierto. La mousse de chañar se roba
la atención de los cerca de 60 microempresarios
del turismo que han asistido al evento, celebrado
desde el 15 hasta el 17 de noviembre en San Pedro
de Atacama.
Dicha municipalidad es el lugar de relevo del
exitoso encuentro del turismo entre San Pedro y la
Patagonia, dos de los principales destinos turísticos
de Chile. La idea de esta iniciativa elaborada
por el PMC Desierto de Atacama (Programa de
Mejoramiento de la Competitividad), bajo el apoyo
de Corfo y Servitur, ha sido, en sus dos ediciones,
crear lazos estratégicos entre los microempresarios
de dichas zonas, que ofrecen servicios de hotelería,
gastronomía y tour operadores.

show which started the second Desert-Patagonia
Business Meeting. Three chefs made delicious pisco
sour with Acantholippia Tarapacana, also known as
Rica Rica, a plant native to the desert. The cocktail
was accompanied by Quinoa sushi, and meatballs to
be sampled with sweet syrup of arrope de chañar. The
dessert maintained the fusion between traditional
food and desert seasoning. The chañar Mousse called
the attention of the almost 60 tourism entrepreneurs
at the event held between November the 15 and 17 in
San Pedro de Atacama.
The City Hall of the II region was the venue for
the successful tourism meeting between San Pedro
and La Patagonia, two of Chile’s main touristic
destinations. The idea of this initiative of the PMC
Desierto de Atacama (Programa de Mejoramiento de
la Competitividad), supported by Corfo and Servitur,
is, in both of its editions, to create strategic bonds
between entrepreneurs for both areas of the country
offering hotel services, gastronomy and tours.
“We’re known destinations, both internationally
and nationally, but we’re also united by the fact that
tourism is one of the most sustainable and clean
business activities generating resources, employment
and service provisions; our goal is quality,” said Omar
Muñoz, Mayor of Coyahique.

The meeting consisted on a day of visits to the biggest attractions of San
Pedro, the Geysers El Tatio, Ojos del Salar, Laguna Cejar, Valle de la Luna,
Miñiques lagoon, among others. Here, entrepreneurs of Coyahique, Puerto
Natales and Punta Arenas, were able to appreciate the wonders of the desert,
and on the following day to enjoy a round of business where they generated
commercial alliances with their northern peers, finishing with a delicious
dinner in a regional restaurant.
“When you want to achieve important things, you don’t need a lot of show, but
rather passion, taste, love for tourism and dedication, so that small businesses
can come to interesting agreements and continue with this noble project,” said
Solange Gálvez, Manager of PMC.
The meeting came to an emotional close when Enrique Escobar, president
of the Corporación de Desarrollo Turístico de Magallanes, announced that the
third edition of this meeting will be celebrated in Punta Arenas.

lo que se requiere sino que la pasión,
el gusto, el amor por el turismo y la
dedicación, para que las pymes puedan
lograr acuerdos interesantes y continuar
con este noble proyecto”, comentó
Solange Gálvez, gerente del PMC.
El encuentro terminó de forma
emotiva cuando Enrique Escobar,
presidente de la Corporación de
Desarrollo Turístico de Magallanes,
informó que el próximo año la tercera
edición tendrá su sede en Punta Arenas.
