Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church OUR MISSION STATEMENT Founded in the good news of Christ that “God so loved the world that he gave (us) his only Son” (Jn 3:16) and knowing that he (Christ) “came that we might have life — life in all fullness” (Jn 10:10) and rooted in Jesus’ command to “Love one another as I have loved you” (Jn 13:34), we the members of Christ the Redeemer Parish commit ourselves: • To foster an understanding and sharing of Christ’s message • To celebrate the glory of God in liturgy which recognizes our diversity and calls us to oneness in God’s presence • To challenge the faithful to respond to Christ’s call to meet the needs of all people with compassion and charity. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CTR COUNCIL The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, Fraternal Organization founded by Father McGivney. Since 1882, the Knights of Columbus (K of C) have been committed to the exemplification of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and defense of the priesthood. For more information visit www.kofc.org. For over 40 years, CTR was supported by Good Samaritan Council which was chartered out of St. Joseph’s church Herndon, VA in 1969. As the Sterling community grew, so did the Council purchasing “The Barn” in the 70's and growing to support the parishes of St. Joe's, CTR, and later St. Theresa’s in Ashburn. That trend changed in late 2000’s with the sale of the Barn and the newly formed council at St. Theresa’s. In June 2015, thanks to the willingness and acceptance of our Pastor, Fr. Cogan we established “Christ the Redeemer Council #16234” here at our own parish. Many long time CTR and Good Sam’s members have been involved in that transition. To date, we have 34 charter members. We will be focused on the needs of the Council and how we can best support our Parish and our Priests, and are actively recruiting members for our Council’s efforts. If you are interested in joining our Council, please contact Joseph Nelson at [email protected]. Also, please consider visiting our GoFundMe website at http://www.gofundme.com/r529xg9w. BLUE MASS The 12th Annual "Blue Mass" to honor and pray for police officers, fire fighters and emergency personnel who have fallen in the line of duty, and to pray for all public safety officers, will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 5:00 PM at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 1914 N. Randolph Rd, Arlington, VA. Bishop Paul Loverde will be the celebrant of the Mass. All are invited. BABY BOTTLE DRIVE CONCLUDES THIS WEEKEND CTR’s Sanctity of Life group’s baby bottle drive benefits Birthright in Leesburg! Birthright provides counseling and assistance to women in a crisis pregnancy 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Call 800-550-4900 or visit www.birthright.org for more information. Please turn in your bottle to the Sanctity of Life group members located at tables in the foyer and the CCD hall entranceway after mass today. INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) “Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets…” It is easy to mistake the truth of religious practice for its rituals: its words and gestures. In so doing we tend to emphasize the right time and place and order to all things. But in today’s First Reading, two members “on the list” but not present in the gathering were still offered the Spirit and the gift of prophecy. In the Second Reading, those who had lived “the right way” by hoarding up earthly treasures, found themselves with nothing of true permanence and value. Finally, in Jesus’ time he points out to his disciples the simplicity of being able to tell truth and goodness from its opposite. It is not enough to remember that if someone is not against us, they are for us. We must also remember that whoever works against us by deceiving even the smallest of our members, does us real harm. Have you felt the Spirit of God stir in you? Are you uncertain of the words and gestures to respond to truth and goodness? If you are an unbaptized Adult or have an unbaptized child over the age of 7 interested in becoming catholic through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and communion or are from a different denomination and interested in becoming Catholic? Please contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Faith Formation at 703-430-0811 ext. 130 or [email protected]. CHRIST THE REDEEMER CATHOLIC CHURCH SEPTEMBER 27, 2015 Christ the Redeemer is reserving a bus to take parishioners to the Pilgrimage. The cost is $20 per person. There are a limited number of seats. Please sign up today in the commons area or call the office as soon as possible to reserve your spot at 703-430-0811. WESTLAKE LEGAL GROUP Give Us A Break!
