Teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve. To give and not to count the cost, To fight and not to heed the

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY
What Does the Word “Catechetical” Mean? The word might be more
familiar than you think. Many Catholics have used the word "catechism" for
years, and they know it has something to do with the compendium of the
Church's teachings. The root word, "catechesis," is from a Greek word
meaning "to echo, or resound." Catechesis is the act of resounding or bringing
the Church's teachings to the world. A catechist is one who teaches in the
name of the Church.
Why do we have a special day set aside to commission catechists?
Catechesis is a distinct and special ministry in the Church. As the Catechism
of the Catholic Church makes clear, “Catechesis is intimately bound up with
the whole of the Church’s life . . . her inner growth and correspondence with
God’s plan depend essentially on catechesis” (no. 7). This ministry of teaching
in the name of the Church has a profound dignity, which is why catechists are
formally commissioned by the Church. It is only fitting that we set aside a day
to highlight this ministry and invite the entire church community to think
about our responsibility to share our faith with others.
We will celebrate in special way to the entire catechist on the Catechetical
Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the 9:30am, 11:00am and 6:00pm Masses.
Pray for them and thank them for the wonderful job that they do.
DOMINGO CATEQUETICO

DOING GOD’S WILL
The language of Jeremiah as he addresses his yearnings to God—he says, “You duped me, O LORD, and I let myself
be duped” (Jeremiah 20:7)—indicates a close and personal relationship with God. It is one the prophet obviously
cherishes despite the derision and reproach it brings him. In the Gospel, Jesus indicates a similar bond with his
Father. In spite of the difficult challenges presented by following God’s will, Jesus is not deterred. Giving up our
own worldly cares and dreams, even as we accept pain and suffering, is more than a fair exchange for doing the will
of God. The only way to do God’s will is offer our whole selves to God. As St. Paul writes in the Letter to the
Romans: “Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans
12:2a). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

What is Whooping Cough?
¿Qué es la tos ferina?
Whooping cough – or pertussis is a very serious infection in
the lungs and breathing tubes. It causes violent coughing you
can’t stop. Whooping cough is most harmful for young babies
and can be deadly. The Dtap vaccine protects against
whooping cough.

tos ferina.
Whooping cough starts with the following symptoms:

After 1-2 weeks, severe coughing starts
Children and babies can cough very hard, over and over
Coughing fits make it hard to breathe, eat, drink or sleep.

The disease is most dangerous for babies and young children.
Half of the babies younger than 1 year who get the disease
need to be hospitalized.
Whooping cough spreads through the air when an infected
person breathes, coughs or sneezes.
Many babies get the cough from adults or older brothers or
sisters who don’t know they have the disease. Pregnant
women with whooping cough can give it to their newborn
babies. Everyone around newborn babies needs to be up-todate with vaccines.
infectada respira, tose o estornuda.
Getting your child the Dtap vaccine helps protect him against
whooping cough
