Wow we can’t believe the first half of the year is almost over! There is a lot happening the month of December. Soon we will be giving our quarterly test so make sure you look at your child’s midterm test to see what they need to practice. DIBELS testing will take place the week of December 8th- 12th. Please continue using the review packet that we gave you during our parent training. We will be having many holiday activities at school. If you are interested in donating supplies that are needed for these activities please see your classroom teacher and ask them what items are needed. Please remember that winter break starts at noon on December 19thand ends January 4th. Look for your child’s report card that will be sent home in January in your child’s homework folder. First Grade News We have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming DIBELS test. Please spend extra time practicing vocabulary words, reading the fluency passages, reading books and recording on the Reading Log sheets for the next few weeks. Our DIBELS test will take place the week of December 8. Please help your child do their best by making sure that they get enough rest that week, eat a good breakfast and come to school ready to work hard. Thank you! We will have some special Christmas season activities coming up in December. Please check your child’s homework folder each week for notes that tell about these activities. We hope you have a Merry Christmas and a fun filled two week break at the end of this month. Please make sure your child is back in school on January 5. Happy December ! We are continuing with our Parent Involvement Homework. Please make sure that you are completing the fluency passage with your child every night. This is important because it will help to improve your child’s DIBELS score. Problem of the Week math homework is going well, thank you for devoting time to support your child’s education. The DIBELS reading test will be taking place from December 8th-12th. Please make sure that your child eats a healthy breakfast and gets plenty of sleep that week so they are ready for testing. Thank you for your support at home. Have a happy and safe holiday season! Hello 3rd Grade Parents! As we begin the month of December, we would like to thank you for encouraging your child to stay focused and on task during classroom instruction. The more your child stays focused, asks questions, and participates in class, the more they are learning! Also, please continue to have your child on time and present each school day. Their daily attendance is very important in both the morning and afternoon. Next, we have completed our multiplication introduction and have started testing multiplication math facts along with addition and subtraction math facts once a week. These are timed tests we use to build up our math fact fluency! Your child should be practicing their math facts at home each night! Along with math facts, remember to have your child read at least 20 minutes each night as well: 20 minutes of reading a day, over 5 years, is 600 hours of reading time, the equivalent of 24 extra weeks of school! Finally, we want to say “Thank You!” again, for the continued donations of tissues, dry erase markers, and classroom snacks. These donations are always appreciated!!! Thank you for your support Parents! Happy Holidays! We have started sending home the Scholastic News magazine for students and parents to read and discuss. Your child has a list of questions that can be used as discussion questions. We hope you are enjoying the information in the magazine. The math journal is to be completed weekly by you and your child. We encourage you to discuss the math problems, especially if you arrive at different answers. Thank you for your support with both of these endeavors. Just a reminder, the Grand Canyon trip will be here before we know it. We will be sending a letter on Dec. 4 that needs to be filled out and returned. Monthly payments can be made to offset the cost of the trip ($75.00). December is finally here and Winter break is just around the corner. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered at the carnival and who brought items to donate, we appreciate you! Just a reminder, every Monday a four question math sheet and a two question reading sheet and article will come home with your child. To reach our reading and math goal we hope your continued involvement will help get us there. Please complete these sheets with your child and sign them to be returned by Thursday every week! Let’s work together to reach our goals. Please encourage your child to practice math facts with you and keep reading! From the 5th grade, we hope you have a great and safe holiday! Happy Holidays! As we wrap up the first half of our 6th grade year together, time seems to be flying. The second and last progress report of the quarter will be going home the first week of December. Please take time to review it with your child. Our grade books will close for the quarter on Tuesday, December 16th. Our Science Fair will be held at the end of January, but projects are due on January 9th. In order to be ready, we expect that our students will be conducting their experiments before the break in December. This will provide enough time for them to analyze and organize their data as well as prepare their display boards. As we reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for this season, your children are at the top of our list! May you have a relaxing and fulfilling holiday with family and friends!
