T HE S OLEMNITY OF THE M OST H OLY T RINITY
This last week the Supreme Court issued
an important ruling regarding an HHS mandate. You may recall that in 2012, following the
implementation of the Affordable Care Act, the
Department of Health and Human Services mandated the Catholic Church and other religious
organizations to facilitate health insurance coverage of sterilization, contraception, and drugs and
devices that may cause abortions.
Of course, the Catholic Church cannot participate
in the violation of the dignity of the human person. Any
form of contraception or sterilization assaults the dignity of
the sexual nature of the human person. Abortion obviously destroys the life of a human person.
Yet, the HHS threatened to penalize through the
force of the law, any religious organization that chose to
exercise their freedom of religion by obeying their conscience.
Thankfully, the Supreme Court decided to not decide on this case. Instead, they put it back in the laps of
the lower courts to provide an alternative that allows for
freedom of religion. Another significant part of their decision prohibits the government from imposing taxes and
penalties on the organizations for non-compliance to the
portion of the mandate in question.
To summarize all of this, for now the Catholic
Church and other religious organizations do not have to
choose between participating in serious immoral acts or
losing their insurance offered to their employees for their
welfare.
Let us give thanks to God for this significant
event. At the same time, let us remain vigilant in prayer,
fasting, and pro-active political participation to preserve
our religious liberty. Without it, our country has no hope of
thriving as a democratic republic.
MAY IS THE MONTH OF
MARY: EVER VIRGIN
"The purity, humility, and generosity of Mary
are in sharp con-trast to our wretchedness
and selfishness. To the extent that if we
realize this, we should feel moved to imitate
her. We too are creatures of God, and if we
strive to imitate her fidelity, God will surely
do great things in us. Our small worth is no
obstacle, because God chooses what is of
little value so that the power of His love may
be more manifest."
Join us as we pray the rosary before
every Mass during the month of
May.

M AY 22,
preservar nuestra libertad religiosa.

For 2016-2017, over a million dollars is needed from this collection to
support our seminarian studying for the priesthood. To achieve this
goal, Cardinal DiNardo requests that you double the amount of your
regular church support for the weekend of May 28-29. If each contributor will do this, the needed subsidy will be met by this collection.
In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the Holy Eucharist which is
inseparably joined to the priesthood, please do your part to help the
archdiocese provide priests for the sake of your future by praying daily
for vocations and supporting this collection.
