Dress Up Play
Do you remember the days you’d transform
into a princess or superhero and get lost in
the plot you created? Are you encouraging
your children to do the same? There are a
few reasons you should.
Dress up play stretches your child’s creative
muscles. They are using their imaginations
as they try on different personas. They are
looking at the world in new ways.
They are telling a story. They aren’t just
practicing silly voices. They are putting their
new language skills to good use.
They can work through their feelings and
explore the feelings of others. They use
dress up play to make sense of the world
and work through various problems.
They are practicing life skills. Children learn
to dress themselves while changing into
costumes. Tea parties are social affairs that
call for manners and etiquette.
Dressing up is fun! They are playing and
playing is important.
Please call 491-7626
if you need to
reschedule. Thanks!

nine practical points for parents
1. Read to children at an early age. Establish that reading is fun and also essential,
not only in the classroom but to life in general.
 Provide quality reading materials in the home and encourage regular library visits.
 Be a good role model and read more yourself!
2. Arrange for the sharing of duties in the home and see to it that such duties are performed.
 Being responsible for chores encourages self-discipline.
 Having a regular job makes one feel needed and a part of the family—important
contributions to positive self-esteem.
3. Show by example that a consideration for others and a commitment to family and
community are vital to individual growth and self-satisfaction.
4. Speak well of education and praise its importance.
5. Help a child with homework at the end of a school day.
 Rejoice in your child’s successes yet be alert to recognize personal social problems that may affect the school experience.
 Provide a place to study and a quiet atmosphere.
6. Carefully watch the cultural influences in the home, including the viewing of television. Children can be shown how to discriminate between the good and
the gaudy and cheap.
 Watch television with your children. Discuss the ideas and situations presented
from a realistic point of view.
7. Take an active part in ongoing communication with the teacher and the school.
 Keep abreast of your child’s progress in school.
8. Share at least one meal per day together as a family. Discuss homework, ideas,
happenings from your day.
9. Cultivate and encourage a sense of humor. The ability to laugh at oneself indicates
a sense of maturity.

nueve puntos prácticos para padres
1321
