FROM THE OGLE OFFICE
Dear Friends:
This week’s Mass of Dedication of our Altar
and Church marks a significant point in our parish
life. It is the culmination of years of planning and
hard work under the last few pastors to renew and
restore our parish buildings, culminating fittingly
with the restoration of our historic church’s interior. We also initiate the celebration of the
“Dosquicentennial” year marking our 175th anniversary since being founded by Rev. Michael Curran in 1841. What greater privilege could we have
than welcome our dear friends, Bishop Sanchez,
our former pastor and consecrator, and Bishop
Chappetto, Vicar General and parish son and alumnus of 1959. Both of them bring us great joy and
honor whenever they bless us with their presence.
We assure them both of our prayers in the challenging ministry of walking in the shoes of the
apostles.
I am also grateful to our entire staff, our lay
leaders, parish committees, advisors and benefactors who have been so deeply involved in making
all the work done here so effective and so wellreceived. We all know that just as the church is primarily people and only then buildings, so also our
celebrations are not only about what has happened, but also about what the Lord wants us to
do in the future to bring together His people into
His holy church. Toward that end we are inviting
you to enroll in our Advent Sunday Scripture
groups this weekend and to attend the orientation
for them this Tuesday evening. We pray this anniversary year will be blessed both in celebrating the
past and in building up the future of faith in Astoria.
Likewise we have the very special privilege
to have been designated a Church with the Holy
Doors Indulgence for the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Bishop Cisneros will initiate that Jubilee here on
Sunday, December 13, Gaudete Sunday, at the
Sunday 5 PM Mass. We hope you can join us at
that time as well.
DE EL PASTOR
Queridos Hermanos,
God love you,
Dios les cuida,

PRAYERS OF THE WEEK
Prayer Before Holy Communion
(from the Byzantine Liturgy )
O Lord I believe and profess that you are truly
Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the
world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. Accept
me as a partaker in your mystical supper, O Son of
God, for I will not reveal your mystery to your enemies, nor give you a kiss as did Judas, but like the
thief I confess to you. Remember me, O Lord, when
you shall come into your kingdom. Remember me, O
Master, when you shall come into your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One when you shall come
into your kingdom. May the partaking of your holy
mysteries, O Lord, be not for my judgement or condemnation, but for healing of soul and body, O Lord,
I also believe and profess that this, which I am about
to receive, is truly your most precious Body and lifegiving Blood which I pray make me worthy to receive for the remission of all my sins and for life everlasting. Amen.
Prayer to Become a Saint
Mother Mary, I want to be a saint. I know that you
also want me to be a saint, and that it is your Godgiven mission to form me into one. So Mary my
mother at this moment on this day, I freely choose
to give you my full permission to do your work in
me, with your Spouse, the Holy Spirit. In Jesus
Name, I pray .Amen.

A NOTE FROM THE CHOIR
Please Excuse Us…
In the upcoming months, when the choir sings at mass in the Upper Church, they will have to be located in
the pews in the back section of the church. The pipe organ is out for repair and we are now using a digital
organ that is in the back of the church, on the Saint Joseph side. The choir must sing close to the organ and
the director must stand in the main aisle, to be seen by the organist. For this reason it will be necessary to
rope off several back pews on that side of the church, to reserve them for the choir. If this is where you usually sit, we are sorry for the inconvenience. The pews will only be reserved if the choir is singing at that mass,
and only until our pipe organ is back. Hopefully, by Easter, the organ will be finished and we will all be singing from the choir loft. We have a wonderful choir this year, and hope you will enjoy the music, and we
thank you for your cooperation.
2015 GIVING TREE
It is time for our 8th annual Giving Tree to help those less fortunate than us. Beginning the weekend of November 28 and through the weekend of January 2, there will be 3 trees decorated with tags that will benefit
BRIDGE TO LIFE and some parish members from St. Margaret Mary who need our assistance.
These trees will be located in the following areas: 1) in the narthex of the upper church, 2) in the West Vestibule near the elevator and 3) in the lower church.
We hope you are able to take a tag or more if possible and buy the items listed. Please do not wrap the gift.
Just tape the tag to the bag or box so we can identify the item and where it is to go.
Please bring the gift by the weekend of January 2 and give to an usher during Masses or bring to the Rectory
for safe keeping. We all know times are tough but for those of us lucky enough, a donation will aid someone
during this time of year where it is better to give than to receive. God bless you and your families for your
generosity.
