Do you remember Peter on the night
Jesus was arrested? He claimed he had
never heard of Jesus. Today we are
called to join Peter in testifying to the
name of Jesus as he does in the first
reading, and in proclaiming our love for
him as Peter does in the Gospel
passage. The powerful imagery of
John’s vision in the second reading
from the book of Revelation shows us
the company we keep when we have
faith in the name of Jesus. We join all
living creatures, “countless in number”
from “heaven, earth, under the earth, in
t h e s e a ; e v e r y t h i ng i n t h e
uni ve r s e ” (Revelation 5:11, 13).
The dignity and majesty described in
each reading are in stark contrast to the
dark and pitiful image of Peter and the
other apostles at the time of Jesus’
arrest, trial, and crucifixion. What a
relief that we can all be redeemed so
completely!

2) having fasted for one hour and

Eucharistic Fasting
CCC-1387: To prepare for worthy
reception of this sacrament, the faithful
should observe the fast required in
their Church. A person who is to
receive the Most Holy Eucharist is to
abstain for at least one hour before
holy communion from any food and
drink, except for only water and
medicine. Bodily demeanor (gestures,
clothing) ought to convey the respect,
solemnity, and joy of this moment
when Christ becomes our guest.

El Acoso (“Bullying”) – Parte II
¿Qué podemos hacer para mantener seguros a nuestros hijos?
Anime a los jóvenes a hablar sobre el acoso (también
conocido como intimidación o “bullying”). Asegúreles
que les escuchará y tomará medidas si vienen a usted.
Preste atención a las señales que indican que los niños
y jóvenes están siendo intimidados, como súplicas para

Bullying Part II
So…what can we do to keep our children safe?
Encourage young people to talk about bullying. Assure them you will listen and take
action if they come to you.
Look for signs that children and young people
are being bullied, such as requests to stay
home from school, unexplained mild illnesses, and problems sleeping.
Advocate for clear policies about bullying in
School settings and for bullying prevention to be addressed in the classroom.
Empower young people to speak up when
they see someone being bullied by saying
something like, “You know what, I don’t
think that’s funny,” and walkng away.
This changes the dynamic by depriving
the one who bullies of an audience.
If you are concerned about bullying in a
school setting, talk to the principal.

Christ Pantocrator
Cristo Pantocrátor
The word Pantocrator is of
Greek origin meaning "ruler of
all". Christ Pantocrator is an
icon of Christ represented full
or half-length and full-faced.
A b o v e Ch r i s t ’ s H e a d a r e t h e
letters “IC” and “XC”, a widely
used four letter abbreviation of
the Greek for Jesus (IHCOYC)
Christ (XPICTOC). He holds
the book of the Gospels in his
left hand and blesses with his
right hand. The arrangement of
the hand, repeated by clergy
when blessing others, is also
rich in meaning. The fingers
spell out the four-letter Christogram “IC XC.
The Christ Pantocrator icon is the oldest
known image of Jesus Christ in existence.
The image depicts the two natures of Christ:
Humanity and Divinity. The icon is believed
to have been painted in about the year 550
and has been at St. Catherine's Monastery in
Egypt for over nearly 1500 years.
The icon portrays Christ as the Righteous
Judge and the Lover of Mankind, both at the
same time. The Gospel is the book, when the
book is open, it signifies Christ as the Teacher;
when it is closed, He is the Judge, with the
final verdict known only to Himself, and the
blessing pr oc l a i ms God 's loving kindness
toward us, showing us that He is giving us his
forgiveness. Christ is not pictured with a
crown or scepter as other kings of this world.
The large open eyes look directly into the
soul of the viewer. The
high curved forehead
shows wisdom. The long
slender nose is a look of
nobility, the small closed
mouth, the silence of
contemplation. It is the
tradition of the Church
to depict "God is with
us" b y h a v i n g t h e

inside of t h e c e n t r a l

church.

proclama la bondad de Dios hacia nosotros, que nos
muestra que Él nos da su perdón. Cristo no es
representado con una corona como otros reyes de
este mundo. Los grandes ojos
abiertos miran directamente hacia
el alma del público. La alta frente
curvada muestra sabiduría. La
nariz larga y delgada es un aspecto
de nobleza, la pequeña boca
c e r r a d a el s i l e n ci o d e l a
contemplación. Es la tradición
de la iglesia representar "Dios
está con nosotros" por el gran
icono del Pantocrátor dentro de la
cúpula central, o el techo de la
iglesia.
