FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
I want to thank
Bishop Richard
Pates for being
here this
weekend at all
of our Masses
for the formal
Installation ceremony for me
as your Pastor and Fr. Luis as
the Parochial Vicar of Sacred
Heart Church. These past
seven months have truly been
a blessing for both of us as
you have already welcomed us
with open arms and hearts
into your lives and into the
life of this wonderful parish
community. Now that it is
―official‖ I look forward to
the days, weeks, months and
even years ahead that I can
say that I am the Pastor of
Sacred Heart Church in West
Des Moines.
Peace,

concerns, please contact me. I have many resources to share with you.

Love & Be Loved - With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it reminds us of how important it is to love and be loved. Here
are a few one-liners to reflect upon :)
 A hug is a great gift. One size fits all and it can be given for any occasion.
 Love is strengthened by working through conflicts together.
 Harsh words break no bones, but they do break hearts.
 Love is the only thing that can be divided without being diminished.
 Love…and you shall be loved.
 Anger is a condition in which the tongue works faster than the mind.
 All people smile in the same language.
 Laughter is God’s sunshine.
 Take time to laugh for it’s the music of the soul.
 You are richer if you have laughed, loved, given, and forgiven.
GRIEF GROUP: Winter Seasons of Hope Grief group beginning Monday, February 1st-March 7, 2016 from 1-3 pm in the Church

a space (225-6414, ext.315).
BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING:

RCIA—RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
BECOMING CATHOLIC…WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE PARISH
COMMUNITY? The past two weeks we looked at the four stages of
the RCIA and that the parish community is the primary facilitator for
RCIA. What are specific steps that parishioners can take in the stages
of RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, paragraph 9, states
that ―the entire community must help the candidates and catechumens
throughout the process of initiation:
during the period of the
precatechumenate, the period of the catechumenate, the period of
purification and enlightenment, and the period of postbaptismal
catechesis or mystagogy. In particular:
1. During the period of evangelization and precatechumenate, the
faithful should remember that for the Church and its members the
supreme purpose of the apostolate is that Christ’s message is made
known to the world by word and deed and that his grace is
communicated. They should therefore show themselves ready to
give the candidates evidence of the spirit of the Christian community
and to welcome them into their homes, into personal conversation,
and into community gatherings.
2. At the celebrations belonging to the period of the catechumenate,
the faithful should seek to be present whenever possible and should
take an active part in the responses, prayers, singing, and
acclamations.
3. On the day of election, because it is a day of growth for the
community, the faithful, when called upon, should be sure to give
honest and carefully considered testimony about the catechumens.
4. During Lent, the period of purification and enlightenment, the
faithful should take care to participate in the rites of the scrutinies
and presentations and give the elect the example of their own
renewal in the spirit of penance, faith, and charity. At the Easter
Vigil, they should attach great importance to renewing their own
baptismal promises.
5. During the period immediately after baptism, the faithful should
take part in the Masses for neophytes, that is, the Sunday Masses
of the Easter season, welcome the neophytes with open arms in
charity, and help them to feel more at home in the community of the
baptized.‖

can participate as a Sacred Heart parishioner? Contact Casey Conner at
