Thinking about joining the Catholic
Church, but feel a little lost? The RCIA
inquiry stage is the starting place for
adults who are thinking about entering the
Catholic Church.
In the inquiry stage, you’re just finding out about Jesus,
Christianity, and the Catholic Church. Talk to people, walk around in our shoes for a
bit and get a feel for the place. As an inquirer, you’re not yet sure exactly what you
think about the Catholic Church. Your main task here is to develop your faith a little
bit, get to know Christ, prayer, the Catholic Church, and how Christians live. That’s the
only way you can make an informed decision about entering the Catholic Church.
Inquiry Sessions 2016 every Monday at 7:00pm
in the Church Meeting Room
Can you believe it?
“Faith is the assurance of things
hoped for, the conviction of things
not seen.” So says the Letter to the
Hebrews.
So there is the answer. But what does
it mean? We can arrive at a partial
answer at least.
Start simply: do you have any question
that various cities around the world
exist, even though you have never
actually walked in them? Moscow,
Katmandu, Tokyo, Madrid, etc? And,
can you make plans to meet with a
colleague for dinner without having to
worry whether that person is just a
figment of your imagination? If the
answer to these is. of course, then you
have “conviction of things (or
persons) not seen.” You are using a
kind of faith.
This ground-level meaning is very
simple, and perhaps doesn’t need
mention. You believe your spleen
exists, but so what? But when you say
“God exists,” a non-believer might
reply, “so what?” Maybe there has to
be more than ground-level faith in life.
That “more” means relationship.
With a close friend, for instance, you
have an affiliation with someone who
will be loyal to you, will be true to the
promise contained in friendship, as
you will try to be also. You have some
confidence that your friend’s love will
not expire.
This is a deeper level of faith, and lets
be very clear that it includes moments
when just the opposite seems true,
when it feels like the friend has turned
away. Some of us avoid having close
relationships altogether just for fear of
being deserted! Understandable as this
is, all of us need to gradually and
prudently open ourselves to deeper
friendships. We need and want to love
and be loved. A series of hurts could
prove that you were wrong, and then
it is wiser to re-negotiate or else move
away. Even so, with time, you might
learn that good faith does exist, and
good people do too, and this is a
deeper level of faith.
Our faith in God involves this deepest
kind of faith, including the fear of
abandonment.
In the First Reading. A man called
Habakkuk speaks to God with great
emotion:
“How long, O Lord? I cry for help
but you do not listen. Why do you let
me see ruin? Why must I look at
misery?”
The faithful God answers in a lengthy
and encouraging reply. “The vision
still has its time,” he says, “presses on
to fulfillment, and it will not
disappoint; if it delays, wait for it, it
will surely come.” God is saying, “I
understand your sorrow and I will
make things better.”
Obviously the big problem is “wait
for it.” God will make things better
but not yet.
Our insides shout, “Not yet! what are
you talking about? Why don’t you
help us right now? Why do you delay
and give suffering such a victory?”
But maybe the way God develops
faith is by delaying!
Look at the apostles in the Gospel.
They say to Jesus, “Increase our
faith!” And they imply, do it now.
But maybe our souls are only able to
reach out for the fullness of belief
(relationship) by a long process of
opening up. Sometimes God is
waiting patiently until we are ready
with a car-load or a teaspoon-full of
faith.
Wait and be patient! That is what faith
is.

Reflecting on God's Divine Love, which God in his Mercy showers on all his children, who
could not possibly deserve it, it is heart wrenching to see that we His children, created in His
Image and Likeness, are so quick to withhold love from each other, and are so easily
deceived by the faithless enemy. Today, let turn the other way! Let's take every opportunity
that comes our way to give ourselves away. God says He will not be outdone in generosity, so
expect wonderful Blessings!

“From Darkness Into Light –
My Journey from Islam to Catholicism”
Nikki will share how she was living as a faithful Muslim
when she came to America with her two young children
to escape an arranged marriage. She was searching desperately for a relationship with God and a quest for the
truth, when she encountered truth itself – Jesus Christ.
Her life was transformed and she became a new person.
Nikki will take us on her life changing journey to find
redemption and salvation as she shares her conversion
story. Her message is one of hope and faith.
Come join us for a night of fellowship and a delicious
dinner. Cost is just $25 per person. This event will be
held at St. John the Evangelist Life Center Ballroom, 625
111 Avenue N., Naples FL. For event payment and more
information, please visit our website at
www.faithandwine.com.

As the 2015 Respect Life Program begins,
the first Sunday in October, let us take a
moment to reflect on the theme, “Every
Life is Worth Living” and how this truth
affects both our understanding of ourselves
and others and the way we live.
Our mission is to show each person the
love of Christ. As uniquely created
individuals, we each have unique gifts which
we are called to use to share Christ’s love.
We are continually given opportunities to
do so in our interactions with the cashier at
the grocery store, our spouses, children,
friends and even the people we encounter
in traffic. Each of these moments is
valuable beyond our realization. We may
never know how much a simple gesture of
compassion may affect someone’s life.
The second collection this week is the
National Collection for Respect Life
Sunday, please use the envelopes at the
end of the pews to make your gift to the
National Collection for Respect Life.
Call for Volunteers
If you are interested in being on a
counting team please call the parish office
manager, Pamela Garcia, 239-455-3900 extension 201 and
provide your contact information (name, address, email, and
phone number). We will be scheduling background checks
for all volunteers as well as training for the counters.
Note: related parties cannot be on the same count team so if
multiple family members want to participate they will have to
be on separate teams. We expect the new process to be in
place in October.
