JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH -STEWARDSHIP- STEWARDSHIP Who is a Christian disciple? One who responds to Christ’s call, follows Jesus, and shapes his or her life in imitation of Christ’s. Who is a Christian steward? One who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord. Interestingly our Gospel reading from Matthew is the very end of Matthew’s account and it, of course, ends with Jesus’ Ascension. Those two readings could not be more closely associated. In these reflections we attempt to briefly connect us to the readings and to point out how they are substantial in relationship to a stewardship way of life. There are some key elements to Jesus’ Ascension to which we must connect. Why did the Lord depart earth in that way? He could have simply vanished or dissolved, or left in any way imaginable. However, most scholars believe that He wanted the Apostles, and He wanted us through their witness, to see Him leave physically and to see Him leave in such a way that we would know He was physically gone. However, His last words are: “I am with you always until the end of the age.” He is there for us every day and every moment. Through the Holy Spirit He will provide us the strength to be good stewards. We must pray for that strength and then use it to do what is right. PLEASE let the parish office know if you moved or your phone number has changed. If you are a registered parishioner, and want your church dona on entered into our records, please use your Sunday envelope (with your name, address, and amount) or visit our website at www.stjta.org to register online for your Sunday dona on. SPRING, TEXAS Have you ever wondered? HolyWaterFonts Why are there holy water fonts at the doors of the church building? We came into the church through the waters of baptism. This was the beginning of our initiation process. Each time we come into the church building we remind ourselves of our baptism by blessing ourselves with the holy water “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Baptistries used to be near the entrance of the church building or even in a separate building near the front doors. Only after baptism did the person enter into the room of the celebrating assembly. ALSO FOR THOSE IN THE MILITARY AND THOSE WE HOLD IN OUR HEARTS If you or a member of your family experiences illness or injury call the parish office and we will add that name to the prayer list. We post the name in the bulle n for 4 weeks, and pray every day for those on the prayer list (present and past). ——————————————————— BaptismalFont With Vatican II we once again began to look at baptism as a sacrament to be celebrated in the midst of the assembly, that is, in the context of the whole community. For practical purposes the baptismal font was placed up front so the assembly could see the action. However, newer church buildings are being constructed with the font near the entrance, and within sight of the assembly, so that the symbolism of coming into the church through the waters of baptism is once again evident. At the same time, with the font at the entrance to the church, it makes the many small fonts unnecessary, and allows us to bless ourselves with the water from the font, a closer connection to our own baptism. Each time we bless ourselves this way, it can be a conscious renewal of our baptismal commitment and an affirmation of our right and duty to worship as part of the Body of Christ called by God into an assembled people. **AROUNDTHEDIOCESE** Build Your Great Marriage! 515166 St. James the Apostle 22800 Aldine-Westfield Road Spring, TX 77373 281-353-5053 Contact: Chela Mescia [email protected] Software: MAC OS/Windows partition Pub 2010 AAXI Transmit: Monday afternoons SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
