JAMES ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH WEEKLY BULLETIN - June 04-05, 2016 Words from Our Pastor - Fr Ben HEART FILLED WITH LOVE AND PITY UN CORAZON LLENO DE AMOR Y PIEDAD Last Friday we celebrated the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the Biblical language, the heart is not a collection of sentiments but it is an expression of intimate depth of the person. It is one’s conscience. To say that Jesus is meek and humble of heart , does not only describe his tenderness but most of all his radical and total love which seeks the lost sheep. This is the content of the parable of the lost coin and the prodigal son, which completes the triptych of compassion. Christ’s heart beats for the least, the marginalized and the miserable sinners. For whom does our heart beat? The feast of the Sacred Heart, is a privilege and grace, but also carries with it responsibility. First the love we receive from the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a private possession, but one that must be shared with all. Just as the Father makes no distinction and makes the sun rise on the evil and the good, so must be in our sharing of the love of Christ. Second, the concern that God has for us and our Universe is a concern which we must show our world. Third the intimate connection of the Sacred Heart and the Eucharist reminds us that just as Christ is so easily available to us, we must also be to each other. The Eucharist and the feast of the Sacred Heart ought not to be private and private devotions, but celebration that makes us ready to reach out in service and availability to anyone who needs us. This Sunday we encounter Jesus upon entering the city of Nain, Jesus encounters the funeral of the only son of the widow. The pain of the mother touches the core and Luke applies to the compassionate Christ the verb that evokes the maternal womb. Given this eternal pain, Jesus goes beyond what prophet Elijah did when he interceded with God to heal the widow’s son (1Kings 17:21). He can act with appropriate authority of the son of God and therefore pronounce the imperative arise, literally to wake up: the same verb will be heard at the resurrection of Christ; the same voice we all expect to hear at the end of history. JAMES ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH WEEKLY BULLETIN - June 04-05, 2016 Special Thoughts from the St. James Pro Life Ministry The Miracle of Conception Varied Help for Grandfamilies Week 40of 40 – We complete the journey Ready or not, here I come! A new life starts when just one sperm cell from the father joins and fertilizes an egg cell from the mother. Just moments after conception numerous hereditary characteristics are determined. These include the different features and individual trademarks such as gender, color of eyes, hair and skin; the shape of the face and body; and certain qualities of temperament and intelligence. A wonderful and unique little life has begun. Join us the 1st Sunday of every month at 8:00am as we pray the rosary for the unborn in front of the Planned Parenthood at 5771 W. Eugie with the Knights of Columbus. The Pro-Life Ministry would like to invite you to join us every 1st Tuesday of the month at 6pm in the church hall. Help us to defend those who cannot defend themselves! SVdP Dear Parishioners: First, thank you to all of you for the wonderful financial support you give our Conference. Our May collection was a most generous $4500. I want to assure you that the Conference tries to be the very best stewards of the gifts God and you give us. We evaluate each client coming to us for financial assistance. We listen to their story and accept it at face value. Often times, our listening to them is the greatest gift we give. In fact, clients that we have not been able to help financially often comment how much they appreciated us visiting with them and listening. In this way, we are bringing them the hope and solace that only Jesus can give. Your SVdP Conference at St James is always looking for people who feel called to minister to the lost and the forsaken as Jesus calls us to do. Our patron saint, St James says a lot about why we do what we do in James 2:14-26. The writer concludes, “For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead”. There are many ministries at St James in addition to SVdP that need you to help with the “work” that they do. What “work” are YOU doing? Please pray on what you are called to do to show your faith. And then DO it. Yes, Jesus prayed, but more than that, He DID. We know His works well, does He know yours? God will bless you more than you can ever imagine if you work for Him.
