PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend is one where we have the op on
of using a combina on of readings from the Sixth Sunday of Easter and the Seventh Sunday of Easter. We
do this because the celebra on of the Ascension of the
Lord will take place next weekend in most of the country and on the tradi onal Thursday in the parts of the
country which felt they needed to hold on to that tradi on. It also happens to be Memorial Day weekend
where families take me to rest, perhaps go on a li le
vaca on or begin their vaca on and just simply enjoy the onslaught of summer with a dip in the pool or a visit to the beach. Originally known as Decoraon Day this celebra on goes all the way back to the Civil War era to commemorate Union and Confederate Soldiers who died in that tragic war. We
now remember all American Military Service Men and Women who have paid
the ul mate price of sacrifice. I will be celebra ng Mass at Tropicana Field
this morning but ge ng back here in me to do the bap sms at 12 noon or
thereabouts. The Rays meanwhile will be honoring the military at the game
today. This Thursday at 11am is the annual fly up ceremony of our li le birdies in the Early Childhood Center. My thanks to the Knights of Columbus who
will be providing the cookout fare for this event. Speaking of the K of C and
cook outs. Next weekend is the Annual Parish Picnic and I am very edified by
the work that is going into the planning of this event. The Knights are once
again coming to the rescue and doing the cooking and everyone is asked to
bring a li le something to share. Please plan on joining us next weekend a er
the morning masses. There will be a special blessing for the graduates next
weekend so I encourage them to where their caps and gowns at the 8:15am
and 10:30am liturgies. Enjoy what’s le of May because me is slipping away
ever so quickly. While the idea of transi oning from your midst is ever present now in my mind and heart, I am simultaneously trying to go on like everything is normal (and it is, just a new, strange normal) and becoming more
and more aware of how much I will miss you all and leave a piece of my heart
here in Plant City.
Peace in Christ,
Fr. Tom J. Anastasia
Pastor
