Prayer of Salvation
Father, I know that I have
broken Your laws and my sins
have separated me from You. I
am truly sorry, and now I want to
turn away from my past sinful life
toward You. Please forgive me,
and help me avoid sinning again.
I believe that Your Son, Jesus
Christ died for my sins, was
resurrected from the dead, is
alive, and hears my prayer. I
invite Jesus to become the Lord
of my life, to rule and reign in my
heart from this day forward.
Please send Your Holy Spirit
to help me obey You, and to do
Your will for the rest of my life.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
―God treats you as sons,‖ the Letter to the Hebrews says: in contemporary
language, ―children of God.‖ That‘s a big challenge. It doesn‘t mean being small or
dependent. Rather, it involves becoming like the Son of God, accepting the
responsibility of enduring ―your trials‖ as he did his. Hebrews calls that
―discipline‖ and acknowledges that while discipline ―seems a cause not for joy but
for pain,‖ discipleship—the way of discipline—accepts the possibility of suffering
for a higher purpose: following Jesus. Where do you find this ―discipline‖ in your
life?
WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE,
& WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH.
ST. JOSEPH’S
PAG E TW O
FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parish Family,
It was our annual family get-together on Long Beach Island at my
cousin‘s house. As usual, at some point in the evening, someone
commented about how ―we ought to do this more often…‖ that ―we
don‘t see each other as much as we should.‖ He was right. Family
should get together more often and not just on big occasions, happy
or sad. I think it is a lot like our church family, too. So many of our
brothers and sisters don‘t make it to our regular gatherings, just
showing up for the big ones - funerals, weddings, Christmas, Easter,
etc. Maybe it‘s time for each of us to be a little more proactive by
inviting them to join us for mass. It couldn‘t hurt.
There were about eight little ones running in and around the older
folks. My sister had brought some homemade bubble making
equipment which was a big hit. The unbridled enthusiasm of the
kids was so gratifying to watch. They squealed and exclaimed on
almost every new bubble they created by waving their wands filled
with this seemingly magic potion. Their energy seemed endless. I
wondered to myself, ‗when is it that we lose that joy and excitement?‘ When is the last time we felt that wonder in the simplest (or
grandest) of things?
There were a few times as evening approached where a mom or dad
had to reach out and remind their little one to share, to be nice or to
say thank you. Right away, the one who was chided, would either
cry a little or get angry because ‗everyone else was doing it,‘ or ‗she
made me do it!‘ But, within a minute, they were back at their games
full force. Saint Paul reminds us of the great gifts we have received
from the Lord and that, among them is the discipline of the Lord.
The Lord‘s discipline reminds us that we are loved by the Father
and called back into right behavior. It brings us joy.
And that is what I wish for all of you (and myself): that we continue
to follow the way of the Lord, that we find excitement and joy in
the journey as being disciples of our Lord. God bless you all!
Fr. Scott
―In times as uncertain as these, it is easy to resort to
division. It's simple to prey on people's fears. That stuff
sells, but it doesn’t stick. It doesn’t last. Most of all, it
doesn’t work.” —House Speaker Paul Ryan, August 9, 2016

ST. JOSEPH’S ENDOWMENT FUND
FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION
St. Joseph‘s Church established an endowment fund for Donovan Catholic High
School and St. Joseph Grade School to ensure a viable financial future for the
schools. As the fund grows, the on-going interest from the principal amount can be
used for tuition assistance, enhancement of academic and religious programs and
facilities growth and maintenance. Every year the Endowment Committee hosts an
Endowment Reception at Eagle Ridge Golf Course to help build the Endowment
Fund. This year the reception ($125 per person) will be held on September 23, 2016
and Senator John Russo will be the Honoree. 50/50 raffle tickets are $20 each and
and will be sold in the Gathering Space at St. Joseph‘s Church after the Masses on
the weekends of August 27-28 and September 3-4. The winner will be announced
at the reception. If all 600 tickets are sold, the winner will receive $6,000. Tickets
can be paid for by check made out to “St. Joseph’s Endowment Fund” or by
cash. Please consider buying a raffle ticket for this great cause!

MENSAJE DEL PARROCO
.
.
.
.
.
.
Querida Familia Parroquial,
.
.
.
.
.
parece demasiado a nuestra familia parroquial. Muchos de nuestros hermanos y
.
.
hermanas no llegan a nuestras reuniones o encuentros regulares, solo aparecen
.
.
.
.
hijo y les enseñaba a compartir, o a dar gracias. De inmediato este pequeño que
.
.
.

(....) Amén. (Padrenuestro, Ave María y Gloria).
