Be my Disciple and…Bear much fruit!” The closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympics will be held on Sunday (this) evening. Last week, while spending time with some friends, we all agreed that we prefer watching the Winter Games. Perhaps that is because there is not much outdoor activity in February except shoveling snow – at least in the majority of the USA. Still, these last 2 weeks of international competition have been a refreshing option for television viewing, and you can’t help but be drawn in to the personal and sometimes amazing accomplishments of the athletes. What often makes these events more interesting is when we see the person behind the competitor and come to know their struggles, sacrifices and dedication. One word that is continually used by the reporters, announcers and commentators in describing these women and men is DISCIPLINE. The long, exhausting training that these people endure involves pain and punishment. In preparation for competition these athletes are coached – instructed – in how to improve themselves. By repetition and practice – following the teaching of their mentors they refine their routine and become better, stronger faster. In the end, when the Games are over, the most important thing that each competitor, coach or spectator wants is to know that the person tried their absolute best; whether they finished first or last. In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus – when asked how many people will be saved - tells us to “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.” Come join us rain or shine for a wonderful day of celebration with our Parish Family. It is a nice family day and we invite all. If you would like to volunteer, here is the link to sign Up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f45a4a62da3f49-olph1 Feel free to call or email with any questions Sue Decker Festival Volunteer Coordinator [email protected] (call/text) (609) 705 0078 Things We Need • • • • • • • • • • • • • Sternos Aluminum Pans – full and half Lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced onions Cheese Cans of soda Capri Sun or juice boxes Powered lemonade mix or ice tea mix Coffee both regular and decaf, Tea 7 & 9 oz cold cups, coffee cups Dessert plates, large plates, napkins, Salad Bowls “mini Moos” (individual dairy creamers) Jars of Salsa If you can help with any of the above items, please deliver either to the church or the parish office before September 8th. We appreciate any donation no matter how big or small. Need more information on the above please contact the parish office and we will put you in touch with someone. Like a good coach, our heavenly Father wants to help us become strong and persevere through the narrow gate. He wants us to do our absolute best, not in comparison with each other but based on the teaching of His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, He allows us to be disciplined - to undergo suffering, trials and temptation – because He is always right beside us with His grace to help us learn His ways and be comforted in His love and mercy and overcome the challenges. The word discipline and disciple come from the same root – to be a follower, a student; one who learns, grows and develops. As a Disciple, accepting the discipline that will strengthen our commitment, dedication and relationship with Christ, we learn how to be winners! However, God does not want us to achieve a gold medal, but a crown of everlasting glory. Our Lord does not desire us to be better, stronger and faster, but to be holy! In the world’s view and by society’s standards we may be last. But all that really matters is that we persevere in God’s ways, bearing the “peaceful fruit of righteousness” and share in the first fruits of His Son’s victory over sin and death. Peace, Fr. Nick We are still in need of some help for our Wednesday Adoration. It would be for the slot 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. If you can spare an hour or even a half, we would appreciate the help. LANCASTER BUS TRIP - Merry Christmas! I am confident with your continued prayers and support we will achieve our goal. Once again thank you and may God richly bless you. If you would like to make a donation, stop in the parish office or drop in the offertory basket clearly marked “Hand to Hand”. The donation is $10. They wanted to convey to our parish the gratitude of the Xaverian Missionaries for you generosity and solidarity in SHARING with the Missions and assure you of their prayerful remembrance before the Lord. House of Charity Update! Thanks to those who have answered our recent request and hope more will come forward to help. Remember if we make our goal, 10% will come back to our parish. We’re over 85% of the way to our goal for 2016, but we still need to make up the rest. Have you given to the annual fund? If each family who has not participated spared $60 .00 (that’s $1.15 a week for the year), then we would reach our goal. If you’re not sure about what the fund means, go to camdendiocese.org/hoc and read about all the ways your donation gives back to the church and community. Whatever you give from the heart comes back to you two-fold, and though it may not be in dollars, we can all benefit from a surplus of blessings.
