Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time The scriptures today point out a very simple fact of our faith - as we prayed in the responsorial psalm today "The hand of The Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs." We hear that today in all the readings from Isaiah, a thousand years before Christ; from Matthew, in the words of Jesus; and from St. Paul some 40 years after Jesus' death and Resurrection. While we hear the Lord takes care of us, do we believe it? The prophet Isaiah told the people that the Lord would satisfy their needs. At that time, the people turned from the Lord and worshipped other gods. Isaiah was reminding the people of the covenant God had made with them through Moses. He saved them from Egypt, led them to the Promised Land. As with us at times, the people forgot that history and when any hard times came along they thought they were forgotten and went looking to other gods for the quick answers. Jesus very clearly tells us and shows how he satisfies our hungers. He feeds over five thousand people with a few fish and loaves of bread. He had been curing their sick, working miracles and then he fed those who were hungry. He demonstrated he will care for us no matter what happens. He may not always cure or stop all the bad things that happen to us in this world, but he promises all our needs will be met if we remain with him. We will live in eternal happiness with Him forever. St. Paul says in the second reading that when we suffer anguish, persecution, stress, hunger, homelessness and danger of any kind - these cannot keep us from the love of Christ. Jesus will help us conquer them all with His love if we just hold string to our belief in him. Too often we focus on our goals here on earth. We must keep in mind - our goal in life - to be happy forever with Him, not here on earth but in his Kingdom of heaven forever. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) Each year the Catholic Church offers a program for adults who feel called to conversion to the Catholic Faith. This process usually begins at the beginning of the school year, around early September, and concludes at Easter time. During this period, men and women who seek to become Catholic will go through a period of learning the Faith in order to understand our Catholic beliefs and to make a well-informed decision about becoming a Catholic. Very often, a Catholic who has been baptized but has not received the other Sacraments of Initiation, Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation, also joins the program in order to complete their sacraments. If you fit into this category or if you know a family member that does, I invite you to consider joining the R.C.I.A. Program yourself or invite your family member to do so. If you are interested, please call the rectory and leave your name and phone number and someone will get back to you with more information. This program is also open to anyone who wants to learn more about their Catholic Faith or anyone who would like to assist the program as a catechist. It is a great way to share your Faith with others! All you who are thirsty, come to the water! — Isaiah 55:1a SIXTH ANNUAL FATIMA HOLY HOURS FOR WORLD PEACE MARÍA, LA ESTRELLA DE LA NUEVA EVANGELIZACIÓN The fourth in the series of Fatima Holy Hours sponsored by the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Division of the World Apostolate of Fatima will be at: Saint Bernard Church 7341 Cottage Street Wednesday, August 13th at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. Aleluya. Papa Francisco Father Judge Mothers’ Association All Craft Lovers please SAVE THE DATE!
