Thanks be to God for those who have remembered the parish in their will
or estate plans. Are you someone who has made a plan to help the
Catholics that come after you by leaving a legacy to the church? The
Deo Gratias Society is the planned giving legacy society of the Catholic
Foundation of North Georgia for anyone who has included the parish, a
Catholic school or other Catholic entity in their will or estate plans.
The second annual Deo Gratias Society mass and luncheon with Archbishop Gregory
will be held by the Catholic Foundation in September. If you have included our parish in
your will or estate plans, you will become a member of the Deo Gratias Society and will
be invited to attend the mass and luncheon.

The St. Thomas the Apostle Pastoral Council is ready to begin the
search for new members. The Pastoral Council offers parishioners a
unique leadership opportunity…a chance to work closely with the
pastor and pastoral staff in identifying the practical needs and
spiritual priorities of the parish, and then determining ways of addressing them.
ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE?
We are looking for parishioners who meet the following criteria:

 Baptized, practicing Catholic
 Dedicated to the mission and spiritual welfare of the parish

Building houses with Habitat for Humanity has long been an important
part of Saint Thomas the Apostle’s ministry to poor families in our
community. This year, the people of St. Thomas the Apostle church,
together with people from the other Christian and Jewish faith
communities of the Cobb Interfaith Coalition, will build our 19th Habitat
for Humanity home. Construction will begin in mid-July.
We’re kicking off this year’s effort to sign up at least 75 volunteers. If you’d like to
volunteer, the only requirement is that you be at least 16 years old. Your help is, also,
needed to meet our fundraising goal of at least $10,000. Please consider a donation of
$30. Give what you can; any and all help is greatly appreciated. Habitat volunteer forms
and donation envelopes are available in Commons. Make checks out to “Cobb Habitat for
Humanity” and place your donation envelope in the collection basket during mass.

una vivienda para una familia de escasos recursos a través de Hábitat para la Humanidad.

been very active in our parish life.
She has served as a PSR teacher, lector
and has served in a variety of ministries
as a leader and facilitator.
She brings many skills and talents
to our pastoral team.
We thank Andrew McGovern for his
recent service as Coordinator.
He will continue his full-time ministry in
the Life Teen program.

Featured presentation “The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn”.
Small-town farmer Noah Dearborn (Sidney Poitier) lives an
uncomplicated existence until shady developer Christian Nelson
(George Newbern) tries to usurp his family's land. Nelson will do
anything to take Noah's property, including hiring a shrink (MaryLouise Parker) to have him declared insane. But Nelson doesn't
anticipate Noah forming an unbreakable bond with the doctor, which
proves stronger than anything the land baron can dish out.

Today’s Gospel Reflection
Read Sunday’s gospel, John 15:1-8.
Reflection for Families
For many of us, there are certain things we
enjoy in our lives. There’s a good chance that
some of our pleasures stem from days before
we became parents such as a weekly golf
outing, shopping, a night out with friends, or
short get-aways. Of course it is healthy to take
care of ourselves, but this reading gives us an
opportunity to see if there are some things
that no longer contribute to our growth on the
branches. The fruit we bear is faith and love.
Do we need to do some pruning in order to
show our children that we are truly fruitbearing branches on Jesus’ vine?
Bringing the Gospel into Your Family
If your family can get to a real grape vineyard,
that would be great! Otherwise, go for a walk
in a park or your own yard and notice how
bushes grow. Point out the new branches and
look for dead branches—even parts of the
bush that have fallen to the ground. Make
connections as a family about what are the
parts of your lives that are good, healthy, and
fruit bearing. Look then at the dead wood and
parts of the tree that have fallen away. What
are those things in your lives? Take time to
pray together as a family asking God to help
you prune away the deadwood.
