From the Pastor • Del Pastor
Dear Parishioners,
Queridos Feligreses:
The Parish Pastoral Council is in the final
stage of preparation of the new five-year
Strategic Plan for St. Louise, and will
present that plan to our parish leadership
(councils, commissions and other leadership
groups) on Wednesday, March 16, at
6:30PM in the Parish Hall. We have been
engaged in the strategic-planning process
under the guidance of consultant Steve
Donaldson, who does this kind of work with parishes and other
groups in our Archdiocese.
Here are the steps that have led us to this point:
August 2014: Soon after I arrived as pastor of St. Louise, Steve
Donaldson led a session in which the Parish Staff began to talk
about priorities for the future.
November 2014: Steve led the Pastoral Council on an evening
to dream about the future.
Diciembre de 2014-Enero de 2015: Los feligreses completaron
una encuesta sobre la parroquia.
December 2014-January 2015: Parishioners completed a parish
survey.
February 2014: Steve led the Staff in a follow-up retreat.
April 2015: Steve led the parish leadership on a retreat to dream
about our future.
May 2015: A Draft Committee drawn from parish leadership
used input from the parish leadership retreat and parish survey to
write a first draft of the Strategic Plan.
September 2015: The Draft Committee presented their work to
the Pastoral Council. The draft included eight priorities for the
Strategic Plan.
October 2015: The Parish Council sought comments from the
leadership groups on the draft Strategic Plan.
November 2015: A Subcommittee of the Pastoral Council was
formed to review the comments from parish leadership and make
needed adjustments to the draft Strategic Plan.
January 2016: The Subcommittee reported to the Pastoral
Council that the two most common priorities mentioned in all
the comments were building faith and community. The
Pastoral Council discussed the possibility of using a parish retreat
experience, “Christ Renews His Parish,” as a means to foster the
growth of both faith and community for our parish.
For now, I ask that every parishioner include this important
work in your prayers. The new Strategic Plan will help to set our
direction as a parish for the next three to five years. Every St.
Louise parishioner could be affected to one degree or another by
this effort. The Pastoral Council is on fire with excitement, and I
hope that in time you will be too!
With gratitude to the many people who have worked hard on our
behalf,
Fr. Gary Zender
2
parroquial llamado “Christ Renews His Parish,” (“Cristo Renueva
próximos tres a cinco años.
nosotros,
Padre Gary Zender

9AM Mass this Thursday, March 3
Please note that, because of our Parish Reconciliation
Service this Thursday evening, there will not be 5:15
confessions or Mass this Thursday evening. Mass on
March 3 Mass will be celebrated at 9AM this
Thursday.
Individual Reconciliation is also available on Thursdays, 5:15-5:45PM,
February 11, 18, 25, March 10 (English & Spanish) and all Saturdays except Holy Saturday, 3PM–4:30PM (English & Spanish).
Preparation for confession should include an examination of conscience, which means you think back on sins you have committed
since your last confession. What happens during confession depends on the priest and the person. Most people still start with the
formula: "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been (state the number of months or years) since my last confession." If you
can't remember the words or you don't recall how long it's been, don't worry. Just tell the priest it's been a long time, and he will guide
you through the process. What you will experience is the healing gift of God's love, the chance to start over with a clean conscience,
and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. (from Our Sunday Visitor)

Catholic Perspectives On Our Nation
It seems to me that this election year is going to be perhaps
more emotional than what we have seen in the past. I have
recently come across two articles that address the issues from
a Catholic perspective, so I recommend them to you also.
The first article is from the publication First Things: Anger and
Citizenship by George Weigel, http://www.firstthings.com/webexclusives/2016/02/anger-and-citizenship. The second article
is from the publication America: The Greatness of a Nation, by
Bishop McElroy, http://americamagazine.org/issue/greatnessnation.

Outreach and Service
Drivers Needed—Seattle Seafarers
Center
Every cruise ship season, the months of May through
September, the Seattle Seafarers Center gathers volunteers
around the Seattle area to help transport cruise ship employees
from their port to downtown Seattle. By volunteering, even just
once a week, to be one of those drivers, you would be able to
interact with people from all over the world as well as provide a
much-needed service to those who desperately need a friendly
face and a way to get simple toiletries in town.
Volunteers must be over 21 and have a clean driving record.
We supply the vans and the cruise ship employees supply the
fun! For more information, please contact Ashley,
206-935-3439 or [email protected]. A driver's
instructional meeting is on April 10.

Caribbean and how you can help. These are fundraising events
with a donation request.
The Eastside Winter Shelters, which will be open

Hearts and Hammers
(Corazones y Martillos)
REGISTRO 12 Y 13 DE MARZO
Hearts & Hammers es un día de intenso
trabajo comunitario para reparar y rehabilitar
las casas de los enfermos, las personas
mayores, los discapacitados y todos
aquellos con recursos limitados en nuestra
comunidad.
