Gallup Member Engagement Survey
The results are in ………on the Gallup Member Engagement Survey which was
conducted last month. In summary, the overall report indicates that St. Thomas the
Apostle Parish generally ranks higher than the average mean relative to engagement of
all Catholic churches in the United States and ranks above all other Christian churches
in the U.S. However, the results do indicate that there is work to be done to further
encourage many more of our parishioners to be truly “engaged” in the parish, not only
by coming to mass but also by becoming more involved in ministries and other
volunteer activities of our church.
Upon Fr. Jim’s return in early May from the international meetings of the Missionaries of
Our Lady La Salette in Connecticut, we will review the data with him and publish a more
extensive report for our parishioners to review. Stay tuned!

The St. Thomas the Apostle Pastoral Council is ready to begin the
search for new members. The Pastoral Council offers parishioners a
unique leadership opportunity…a chance to work closely with the
pastor and pastoral staff in identifying the practical needs and
spiritual priorities of the parish, and then determining ways of addressing them.

Totally Catholic Vacation Bible School
(VBS)
Teens who are incoming freshmen,
sophomores, or juniors and have not yet
received the Sacrament of Confirmation
or the Sacraments of Baptism and/or 1st
Eucharist; St Thomas the Apostle offers a
2-year program designed to prepare them
for their sacrament(s).

Teen meeting (Sacramental Prep for
Teens & Confirmation) on

This week in our parish
Today’s Gospel Reflection
Read Sunday’s gospel, John 10:11-18.
Reflection for Families
When we consider the people in our children’s
lives, we find most of them represented in this
scripture. There are the good shepherds.
Mostly they are parents and grandparents or
other relatives who significantly take care in
our children’s up bringing. In this group we go
to the limits for our children. Then there are
“hired hands” who help us because they
benefit in some way—usually monetarily. But
when push comes to shove, how much of
themselves will they invest? It even happens
that sometimes the people we thought were
shepherds turn out to be hired hands. Finally
there are the wolves—all the things that
distract the shepherds or lead the sheep
away. As parents we need to be aware of who
these people are in our children’s lives. We
even need to look into our own hearts and
desires and be certain that there are no
wolves luring us from our precious sheep.
Bringing the Gospel into Your Family
Make a list of all the possible wolves in the life
of a family. They are the people, places,
situations, or entertainment that pull us away
from the love, comfort, and care of the fold.
The list might include work, social
commitments, or friends. Identify the more
serious “wolves” and make a plan as a family
about how you will protect your family from
them.

shepherd because . . . I will try to overcome
