Worship
Altar Server Ministry
Children of St. Angela Merici Parish
can help to make a difference by becoming part of the Altar Server Ministry.
In this ministry, children have the opportunity to serve at the Lord’s Table
with the priests and deacons of our parish. Service at the Lord’s Table is a
responsibility and a commitment that is
taken seriously by the children and their
families.
Our children can begin serving once
they have reached the 5th grade and
have successfully completed the Altar
Server training program. The rewards
for the children who serve are many.
The children are giving of their time and
talent. The gift of their time and talent
is appreciated by the priests, deacons
and coordinators, as well as the parishioners. Most importantly, the children
develop closer bonds with their faith
and parish community. This ministry
shows our children that, even at a
young age, they can make a difference
in our parish community.
TOGETHER
Mission Statement
We the family of Saint Angela Merici
Catholic Church of Brea respond to the
teachings of Jesus Christ by living our
faith and welcoming all to our place of
spirit-filled worship. By honoring our
baptismal commitment, we celebrate
our relationship with Jesus and our diversity through faith formation, evangelization and service.
A
DIFFERENCE
No matter what your age,
no matter where you come
from, no matter who you
are, there is a place for you
at St. Angela Merici. You'll
meet a great mix of friendly
people, hear relevant
messages, enjoy compelling
programs, and much more.
Come as you are, be who
you are-we've got a seat
saved for You.
Audio Visual Ministry
The A.V. Ministry serves the community
of St. Angela Merici behind the scene
at every event in the church. We assist
each music group with set-up and
sound mixing. In addition to projecting
song lyrics, we run slide presentations
and videos during Eucharist and Prayer
Services when needed. If music and
electronics interest you, we encourage
you to consider this important ministry.
If you have never tried mixing before
but are interested, come see us! Training is provided! A.V. Ministers are
scheduled monthly and you may serve
at the Eucharist you normally attend.
Art and Environment
If you feel God is calling you
to answer the invitation to
ministry or if you wish additional information about one
of our ministries at St. Angela
Merici, please refer to An Invitation to Ministry on the back
of the bulletin or our website:
www.stangelabreachurch.org
The Art and Environment Ministry enhances our environment for the liturgical year
and creates a welcoming venue for our many parish gatherings. Some of the specific projects we undertake include: Decorating the church for Advent-Christmas,
Lent and Easter, Holy Days and memorial and civil holidays, flower and plant arrangements, preparation of meeting and workspaces, provide a welcoming environment, i.e., colored flags outside for the various seasons, Christmas, Lent, and
Easter Decorations. Our vision and goal is to provide an environment for the
church as a whole, which fosters a scene of welcome; highlights the liturgical season, and stimulates thought, contemplation, and prayer. The documents of the
church underscore the importance of the gathering spaces of the faithful. They
reflect the faith and expression of the community. If God has blessed you with the
gifts of art and design, flower arranging, and color, please consider sharing your
gift in ministry with the People of God at Saint Angela Merici Parish.
Greeters & Welcome Ministry
You’ll find us at morning Eucharist
greeting parishioners with a smile and a
warm welcome. During Eucharist,
greeters are asked to assist ushers if
needed (collection, passing out special
envelopes, cards, booklets, etc.). Following Eucharist we wish parishioners
a good day and hand out the parish
bulletins. Our ministry is always developing and we are in need of many more
individuals to welcome and help serve
our parish community at all of our Eucharistic celebrations.
Lectors
The documents on the liturgy speak
about how Christ is truly present in various ways throughout the Celebration of
the Eucharist. The proclamation of the
word is Christ himself speaking to his
people. The Lector’s ministry speaks
the word of God in a way that the people hear God speaking to them personally. A lector is truly a minister who not
only proclaims the faith, but invites and
challenges God’s people to hear with
their ears and their hearts. God,
throughout history, has always called
upon men and women to speak His
word. Consider responding to the invitation to the Ministry of Lector.
Nursery Co-op
The St. Angela Merici Childcare Coop is a ministry devoted to young children and their families. We are open
during the Sunday 9:30 and 12:30
Eucharist, and cater to children aged
1 to 3 years. The Co-op is staffed by
parents and teenage volunteers. As a
member you will be asked to work
approximately one time every three
months. The Co-op is a great alternative to Eucharist for little ones who
just can’t sit still but are too young for
Faith Formation classes, while allowing the parents time to enjoy the
Eucharist.
Chorale
The St. Angela Chorale is a gathering
of seekers, servants and sowers of
the Kingdom of God, who together
through the gift of song, “make a difference” in the worship life of the parish at the 11:15 am Eucharist. Chorale meets weekly to rehearse, pray
and be fed by the powerful works of
great composers whose music has
nourished the spiritual journey of
countless numbers of people over
many generations. The music leads
us into deeper engagement with the
liturgy and the scriptures, as together
we unlock the spiritual and musical
treasures each piece holds. Please
feel free to come join us and see for
yourself how you too can be nourished and inspired by beautiful music.
Singers
Liturgy of the Word
with Children
‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and
become like children, you will never
enter the kingdom of heaven. ’ —Matt
18: 1-3 Each Sunday of the year we
celebrate Liturgy of the Word with Children at the 9:30 and 12:45 Eucharist.
After the opening prayer the children
are dismissed for Liturgy of the Word.
The readings of the day are shared
from the Children’s Lectionary, followed
by an interactive reflection on the Word.
As the leaders reflect on the Word, the
children are asked to participate by
sharing their own ideas about Jesus’
message to all of us. The children continue with the Prayers of the Faithful
and return to church during the Presentation of the Gifts.
The Saint Angela Merici Singers, (the
9:30 am Eucharist choir) enjoy a wide
range of musical styles from traditional to contemporary. Vocalists and
instrumentalists of all types are welcome! You do not need any formal
training (such as knowing how to read
music) in order to join, only the desire
to share your gifts in this rewarding
ministry.

Welcome, Fellowship
And Hospitality Ministry
This ministry serves our parish by providing food and drinks during special
events. After each Eucharist, parishioners have the opportunity for fellowship
while listening to music and enjoying
refreshments. The special events during the year include: Welcome Back
Weekend or our Ministry Faire in September, Advent on the Plaza in November, and Lent on the Plaza in February.
This ministry hopes to make the fellowship opportunities more enjoyable and
on a more regular basis.
For the Word of God
is living and active.
—Hebrews 4:12
Voices of Joy
Voices of Joy leads the music at 5:00
pm Saturday vigil Eucharist on the 1st,
3rd and 5th Saturdays of the month.
Our music ranges from traditional
hymns like Amazing Grace to guitar/folk
group and choral pieces like Spirit and
Grace and Alleluia! Raise the Gospel.
We dabble in Christian praise music,
like King of Kings, along with contemporary songs like Cry the Gospel. We
welcome anyone who loves to sing
and/or plays an instrument to join us in
leading God’s people in song.
Wing & A Prayer
Wing & A Prayer is a music ensemble
consisting of piano, guitar and a blend
of beautiful voices. We sing music
ranging from traditional to contemporary. Our music is meant to uplift the
congregation and assist in community
prayer. We welcome all instrumentalists
and singers to join us. Wake up singing; it’ll make your day!
Usher Ministry
29th Monthly Adoration
Ushers are men and women who serve
the gathered assembly on Sunday.
After parishioners and visitors are
greeted at the door by our Hospitality
Ministry, the Usher Ministry continues
to make parishioners and visitors feel
welcome and assure that they feel they
have a place at Saint Angela Merici.
They attend to the needs of the assembly by making themselves available to
answer any questions or give directions, help if necessary, with selecting a
pew for parishioners and guests, pass
the basket for our Weekly Stewardship
Collection, and invite members of the
assembly to present the gifts of bread
and wine. During Eucharist they are
available to serve the assembly in
whatever capacity might arise.
St. Angela’s day of monthly Adoration
is the 29th. Come spend some time
with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
We begin silent individual prayer after
the 8 am Eucharist (on Saturday and
Sunday after the 5 pm Eucharist).
Various ministries attend adoration as
a group from 7:00-10:30 pm, and then
the monstrance is processed to the
Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Adoration continues in silence until the 8 am
Eucharist the next day. We invite you
to spend some time with Jesus.
Extraordinary Ministers
of the Eucharist
God feeds his people at Eucharist at
the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy
of the Table. Together with the Presider
they distribute the body and blood of
Christ to the assembly. If you feel that
God is inviting you to minister to the
gathered community in worship by distributing the Eucharist then see the Invitation to Ministry in the back of the bulletin for the coordinator and contact
person.
Prayer
Marian Rosary
and Scripture Group
Through the centuries, in her numerous
apparitions, Our Blessed Mother has
been calling all people to pray the rosary for peace in the world and in our
families. Our parish’s Marian Rosary
Group began in 1990 to pray the rosary
as a community for peace as well as for
the welfare and holiness of our clergy,
religious, those in formation to the religious life and for our youth.
Together we pray one rosary, then read
and discuss scripture for the coming
Sunday so our hearts are open on Sunday to the Word that God wants each of
us to receive and enact in our lives. If
you “used to” pray the rosary but have
gotten out of the habit, won’t you begin
again by joining us at St. Angela’s in
this community prayer for peace? Men
and women of all ages are welcome!
We meet weekly for one hour in the
Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
Adoration Ministry
In the Blessed Sacrament Chapel
We are blessed to have an Adoration
Chapel at St Angela’s, where Jesus is
exposed in a Monstrance 9 am until
midnight, Monday through Friday. The
Chapel is next to the Parish Offices,
distinguished by its beautiful stained
glass door. Our Chapel is a quiet
place of prayer, and you are invited to
drop in whenever you can to be with
Jesus and tell Him what is in your
heart. Jesus asks us all: “Could you
not spend one hour with me?” Come,
spend time with Jesus, you will be
very glad you did.
Charismatic Prayer Group
The Charismatic Prayer Group is a
wonderful venue for persons interested in expanding their vision of
what God means in their personal
faith journey. We meet weekly to
praise, share and pray for the needs
of ourselves and others. We sponsor a monthly Healing Eucharist.
Priests from all locations come to
celebrate Eucharist. We invite each
of you to experience our prayer
group nothing fancy, just people
trying to make a difference in their
own lives and the lives of others.
What return can I make to the
Lord for all His goodness to me?
—Ps. 116:12
Cursillo
Cursillo is a Catholic retreat weekend
which enables participants to experience the love of Christ in their lives.
Cursillo has been approved by the Diocese of Orange. Retreats are held at
Marywood in Orange four times a year.
Men’s and Women’s weekends are
separate. If you wish to deepen your
relationship with Jesus and join a faith
filled loving community, come to a Cursillo weekend. You cannot outdo God in
generosity! Give Jesus 72 hours of your
life, and you will look back on it as one
of the best things you have ever done
in your life.
Respect Life
Our purpose is to foster a respect for all
life, from conception to natural death.
This includes help and resources for
pregnant women and their babies,
abortion alternatives and natural family
planning. We also participate in fundraising for the Life Centers and medical
care for women and their babies. We
join in prayer and vigils at abortion sites
held on the third Sunday of the month
from 11:00 am - 12 noon. We observe
the Holy Hour of Adoration for Life, provide education and support abolition of
the death penalty, and legislation dealing with all respect life issues. Our
monthly Holy Hour of Adoration for Life
is on the second Thursday of the month
from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Adoration
Chapel. Please join us!
Men’s Fellowship
Do not conform yourselves to this age
but be transformed by the renewal of
your mind, that you may discern what is
the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.--Romans 12:2
Our focus in the men’s fellowship is to
lift up one another in prayer. Encouraging and listening to each other as we
read from God’s word. We gather once
a week before work for prayer and reflection. Please consider joining us.
Men’s Recon
For most men happiness and satisfaction in life are locked up in two worlds – work
and home. These two arenas absorb most of a man’s time, talent, energy, effort,
and creativity. Many of us are lacking the power, wisdom, and peace that a reconciled life with Christ has to offer. This ministry was originally founded to help men
navigate through the turbulent waters of separation due to divorce, death, or conflict. The ministry has evolved to assist men in achieving their full potential in their
roles as husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers. It also focuses on relationships
and provides practical approaches to achieving victory at home, work and within
the community settings.

P.A.L.S.
Prayer, Adoration, Learning, Sharing
In its 16th year at St. Angela's P.A.L.S
continues to provide women with an
opportunity to develop deeper spirituality in their lives. We encourage spiritual
growth through a balance of prayer, life
sharing, selected study materials and
the friendship of women of all ages.
This is an opportunity to grow in our
relationship with God and each other.
Throughout the year many activities are
offered, retreats, days of recollection,
May Crowning, a special presentation
of the Way of the Cross, in addition to
books, films, and motivational speakers. During each session a new book is
chose to read and discuss in small
groups. P.A.L.S. sessions meet in the
morning or evening. The studies are
slightly different in format but our goals
are the same. Come join our small faith
community setting of P.A.L.S. We welcome new members.
Faith Formation
Infant Baptism
Annually, more than 100 children are welcomed with the Sacrament of Baptism
into the Catholic faith through the Infant Baptism program at St. Angela Merici. It
is a time of joy for families and friends to celebrate this grace-filled moment as an
important aspect of the three-part initiation rite. It also is an opportunity for the parents and godparents to learn about the richness of Catholicism and how it offers a
direction and purpose for our journey with God throughout our life by attending the
monthly baptismal class. Once a month, except during Lent, a priest or deacon is
assigned to administer the Sacrament of Baptism to newborns up to the age of
seven or to children prior to entering first grade. Families also have the option of
choosing a Sunday Eucharist. “May almighty God, who has given us new birth by
water and the Holy Spirit, continue to bless all of us who are his faithful children.
Moms in Touch
Moms in Touch are a group of moms
who meet weekly to pray for their children. Our mission is to impact our children and our school for Christ by gathering mothers to pray. The purpose of
M.I.T. is to pray that our children will
receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, and
then stand boldly in their faith and to
pray that teachers, administrative staff,
and students would come to faith in
Jesus Christ. To provide support and
encouragement to moms who carry
heavy burdens for their children. To
pray that our schools will be directed by
biblical values and high moral standards. To be an encouragement and a
positive support to our school. We
meet weekly during the school year.
Any mother at St. Angela Merici School
is welcome to attend.
By water and the Holy Spirit,
receive the gift of new life
from God, who is love.
Sacred Heart of Jesus
Holy Hour of Reparation
Our Lord appeared to St. Margaret
Mary Alacoque in France (1671 to
1690), and revealed to her his Sacred
Heart wounded by apathy--the lack of
respect for the Blessed Sacrament,
his Body and blood and wounded by
the many other sins of the world. For
that reason Our Lord requested her to
originate a Holy Hour of Reparation to
his Sacred Heart. His request for
reparation is no less urgent today as
our world continues to be seated in
wickedness. Please join us in this
beautiful devotion honoring the Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus and offering
him love and reparation as he requested. We meet at 7:00 pm in the
Blessed Sacrament Chapel, on the
Thursday preceding the First Friday of
each month and use a booklet titled,
Holy Hour of Reparation.
4
Bible Study
Our group studies a book (or two) of
the Bible mid-September thru mid-May.
We cover 1-3 chapters a week with emphasis on understanding the passage
in order to enhance our relationship
with Jesus Christ in our daily life.
Classes are taught with the perspective
of Catholic tradition and doctrine in harmony with the teachings of the Church.
We study the Old Testament and the
New Testament as well as various
other religious and spiritual resources
throughout the year. In addition, when
possible, a comparison of words from
Greek and Hebrew is used to increase
the understanding of particular passages. The format of the study is informal, and lively discussion is the norm.
Participation is encouraged so that everyone is enriched by each person's interpretation and sharing of how God is
works in our lives.
Children’s Faith Formation
We serve the children in our faith community in public schools from age 3
through 8th grade. Our classes are offered Monday and Tuesday October
through May and we also have a preschool program on Sunday mornings.
Enrollment each year is approximately
350 students, growing in their faith and
love of Jesus. Our volunteer teachers
are an integral part of our ministry.
They take time from their busy schedules to share of themselves, following
in the footsteps of the apostles to pass
on the teachings and love of Jesus
Christ. In addition our program coordinates Sacramental Preparation for students in second grade or older who
attend St. Angela Merici School and
Children’s Faith Formation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Yearly, more than 100 students
share in these joyous celebrations, with
First Eucharist occurring during the
Sunday Liturgies.
RCIA
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the process by which adults
and older children become members of
the Roman Catholic Church. The process is concerned with the total formation of the person as believing, living,
praying, and serving with the Church
community. The journey culminates in
the celebration of the Initiation Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and
the Eucharist during the Easter Season. The Rite is designed primary for
those seeking Baptism. However, because of the nature of conversion as an
on going reality, the RCIA can be
adapted for those baptized in other
Christian denominations now seeking
membership in the Catholic Church and
those Catholic adults wishing to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. As
such, the RCIA is a flexible process
which respects the faith development of
each individual while maintaining the
ideals and vision of the Catholic Community. Candidates in the RCIA process journey with members of our parish
who wish to deepen their own personal
relationships with the Lord and the faith
community.
Adult Confirmation
Baptized Catholic adults are prepared
for the Sacrament of Confirmation
through a series of classes, service and
faith sharing opportunities. Confirmation is usually celebrated on Pentecost.
St. Angela Merici Parish School
St. Angela Merici Parish School is a Catholic faith community comprised of the
ordained, administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and students which fosters a
Christ-centered environment we integrate our religion with all aspects of living and
learning. Our mission is to develop faith filled active Catholics who are life long
learners, effective communicators, responsible citizens, quality producers and integrated individuals. St. Angela Merici is committed to providing a faith-filled environment and curriculum recognizing each individual’s differences and developing their
God-given talents and gifts. Each student is challenged to expand his or her intellectual abilities through a variety of successful learning experiences. Our goal is to
empower each student to become a responsible, active Christian capable of making appropriate moral decisions, facing the challenges of contemporary living.
While learning in the context of St. Angela’s faith community, each student develops a realization that their Catholic faith is a way of life which permeates all their
actions and decisions. The school is open to K-8th grade, one class per grade.
The school offers computers, science, music, physical education, advanced math,
resource classes and much more.
Sacrament of Confirmation
St. Angela Merici Confirmation Ministry is a 2 year discernment process for freshmen and sophomores in High school. Together the youth and their parents reflect
study, pray and discern whether they feel/think that God is calling them to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Catechesis takes place either in a classroom or a home setting with those catechists who have answered the invitation to
journey with our youth as they complete their Rite of Initiation into the Catholic
Church.
The Confirmation process challenges our youth to “Commit their lives to Christ and
the Church” by following in the footsteps of Jesus. The program’s vision and hope
is to help our youth build a community among their peers, and challenge them to
reach out to the community by serving others. Accordingly, the curriculum not only
includes the teachings of the Catholic Church, but also assists our youth to grow in
their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ and challenges them to connect
with other Catholic youth in our parish as well as in other parish communities. The
hope of the Confirmation process and its ministry is to provide and facilitate a safe
and enjoyable environment in which our youth may come to realize that there is no
separation between their personal, religious, and social life but all are integrated
into the one life they live in Jesus Christ.
Be sealed with
The Gift of
The Holy Spirit.
Amen!
Peace be with you.
And with
your spirit.

Young Adult Ministry
Youth Adult Ministry primarily focuses on helping
young adults between the ages of 18-21 get connected on a deeper level with themselves, the Parish, the Catholic Church, other young adults and
most importantly, to God through Jesus Christ. We
strengthen our faith through prayer, friendship and
service. Join us each month for our YA meetings in
the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati room (the Pier).
Junior High Ministry
St. Angela Merici (S.A.M.) Junior High Ministry exists to….create a safe environment and reach out
to Junior High Catholics who want to connect with
other students to grow in their faith together. We
will grow in our spirituality by following scripture,
prayer, fellowship and service. We strive to reach
our youth to grow in faith and in their relationship
with Jesus Christ. The S.A.M. Junior High ministry
works with ages ranging from 12-15 regardless of
where they are in their faith journey. Our goal is to
reach out to EACH ONE of our Junior High students. Our ministry offers spirit filled programs including bible studies, socials, and service projects
so they can grow deeper in their faith. The SAM
Junior High Ministry tries to challenge teens to
learn more about their faith so they can deepen
their relationship with God. We are here for them
as they become abstract thinkers throughout these
crucial years.
Youth Ministry
St. Angela Merici Youth Ministry mentors high school aged youth through the
Gospel of Jesus Christ into their future
as adults in the faith. We open our
doors and our heats to all adolescents
in high school, regardless of where they
are in their faith. Our goal is to provide
a safe and welcoming environment for
youth while inviting them to grow in
their relationship with the Holy Trinity.
We offer a variety of programs and activities, including but not limited to,
prayer services, social activities, game
nights and faith discussions. Our doors
are open to all high school teens for our
Nights at the Pier in the Blessed Pier
Giorgio Frassati room (Youth Room)
connected to the YM office.
The SALTe program (Serving And
Leading Through example) is our teen
leadership team which supports the
Youth Confirmation program as aids
and retreat leaders, fundraising for YM
and co-ordinates Youth Liturgy (5PM
Sunday Eucharist). Through this process, students who have received the
Sacrament of Confirmation grow
deeper in faith while serving their community. If you are a Confirmed teen,
join us at each month for our SALTe
meetings in the Blessed Pier room.
Christian Service
The Giving Tree
Our vision is to do as Christ commanded us: To reach out to those who
are in need. This ministry is designed to provide Christmas gifts and
goodwill to people who are experiencing difficulty in their lives. Last
year we distributed over 2000 gifts to people of all ages. We helped
families, nursing home residents, unwed mothers, homeless and
abused women and children, incarcerated youth, the Boys and Girls
Club, Fr. Dan's ministry in LA, and our own A.C.T. Office. Our planning
begins early in October and continues through December. The Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, Christmas trees are placed in church. Each
tree is decorated with gift tags indicating a needed gift. Church members may take as many tags as they wish, purchase the gifts and return them on designated dates. The committee then sorts, wraps, and
distributes the presents. We are parishioners who volunteer varying
amounts of their time for various jobs. Everyone is welcome.
Active Christians Today
(A.C.T.)
Founded in October of 1972, A.C.T. is
a Christian service agency providing
assistance to those in need, including
members of St. Angela Merici parish.
As an Active Christian Today the services we offer require active participation and prayer. We offer bread, bakery and grocery items daily to the
homeless and hungry. We also offer
clothing, shoes, furniture, and household items which are generously donated, financial assistance dependent
on funding, temporary lodging on an
emergency basis (primarily when children are involved) and government
commodities on the first Wednesday
of each month. A.C.T. is proud to provide referrals for dental, medical, and
legal assistance, while maintaining a
co-operative relationship with Brea
Community Emergency Council. We
are funded by the donations of everyday household goods and food and/or
monetary contributions. Thanks to the
many hours of volunteer service donated, A.C.T. has been successful in
making our hopes a reality.
6
Bread of Angels
Bread of Angels was started August 1st
1998 by the Social Justice Ministry to
fill a need in this community. It provides
an opportunity for the homeless, senior
citizens and families in need to spend a
few hours in a safe environment where
they can enjoy a nutritious home
cooked meal together, while being
treated with dignity, loving kindness
and respect. Parishioners and volunteers join together every Saturday in
love and fellowship to prepare the food,
serve the guests, take care of the children's activities, and finally clean up the
kitchen and hall. Our funding comes
from your generosity in using the Sunday envelopes.
Hats n Hugs
Join others who wish to lovingly devote
their time and talents by creating hand
knit or crocheted shawls, scarves and
hats for those in need. When finished,
the gifts are blessed, will be accompanied by a prayer and presented to
someone needing comfort and blessings. Some members gather at the parish to work together, while others make
their items at home and bring them in.
We joyfully accept donations of your
handiwork, 100% Acrylic yarn (any size
ball even remnants will work) or donations to buy yarn to get the ball rolling.
Our hats and scarves are made by
hand and threaded with prayers.
Bereavement Support Group
After the loss of a loved one, the journey toward healing can be overwhelmingly lonely at times. Our Bereavement Support Group is here for
those suffering the loss of any loved
one. We offer the guidance of a professional facilitator as well as the support and understanding of others experiencing grief. We meet twice a
month in the evening. Please join us.
There is no cost involved.
Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the water
—Isaiah 55:1
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest lay Catholic family service organization. As their forebears more than a century ago, today's Knights and their families stand shoulder to shoulder in support of one another. Through their charity
and the examples of their lives, they stand in service to all as witnesses to the
Good News of the Gospel. St. Angela Merici's Knights of Columbus council #9511
was formed in 1987. Its membership now stands at 150 men. Examples of what
the Knights do day-in and day-out abound. They run monthly and Lenten Fish Fry
dinners “Friday Night With Friends”, blood drives, raise funds to support various
Respect Life causes, have Monthly Adoration in the Chapel, celebrate memorial
Eucharist together for deceased brother Knights and parishioners, sponsor events
for the Intellectually Disabled, sponsor youth basketball free-throw contest, high
school essay scholarships, Christmas caroling and parish Santa Claus visits, St.
Valentine Sweetheart Dance, and manage the beverage bar at the annual St. Angela Merici SummerFest. In addition to these activities, other avenues are available for parish Knights which enrich spiritual and fraternal life. Our members offer
a diversity and strength that magnify what we do. Our Council has great wit, humor, passion, and faith. By witnessing everyday examples of how our brothers
give and live, we realize how much they love our Catholic faith and Church.

I am there with them.
Pastoral Care
Ministry to the Sick and Homebound
Our ministry brings Eucharist to residents in several convalescent hospitals
nearby. We are Church for those who
are confined by illness, age or disability. Sometimes we are the only ones
who come to visit a person. In addition
we go to private homes taking the Presence of Christ as we share our love and
time with those who cannot come to
Eucharist. We help with Eucharist twice
a month at convalescent hospitals.
As Catholic Christians, we understand
the importance of Sacraments in people's lives, providing them with God's
grace and presence, especially in times
of need. The appreciation that people
have is often evident in their countenance even when they are unable to
communicate verbally.
Training is usually offered twice a year
with two evening sessions in the spring,
after Easter and in the fall, usually in
October. We strive for greater understanding of the spirituality of Christ's
Presence in the Eucharist and learn the
important procedures for taking the
Sacrament to those confined in hospital
or home.
Respect Life
Our purpose is to foster a respect for all
life, from conception to natural death.
This includes help and resources for
pregnant women and their babies,
abortion alternatives and natural family
planning. We also participate in fundraising for the Life Centers and medical
care for women and their babies. We
join in prayer and vigils at abortion sites
held on the third Sunday of the month
from 11:00-12 noon. We observe the
Holy Hour of Adoration for Life, provide
education and support abolition of the
death penalty, and legislation dealing
with all respect life issues. Our monthly
Holy Hour of Adoration for Life is on the
second Thursday of the month from
7:00-8:00 pm in the Adoration Chapel.
Please join us!
Restorative Justice
Would you consider spending some
time with the incarcerated?
I have.
Are you afraid of going into jail or
prison? I was.
Are you willing to be the Face of
Christ to the incarcerated and find the
Face of Christ behind bars?
I have and I did.
Do you feel a calling to Ministry?
I did and it is the greatest activity
I do every week.
Catholic Detention Ministry, Office of
Restorative Justice, provides excellent
training. You may choose to minister
to the Juveniles or the adults imprisoned in the Orange County Jails. Our
experiences have found the children
and adults desire to hear about the
Lord and become closer to the Lord
through the sacraments, bible study,
sacramental preparation, religious education, and one-on-one visits. We went
to the jails to minister. Little did we
know that they would become the Face
of Christ to us. We consistently receive
graces from our ministry in the jails and
are joyous in sharing our gifts to open
the hearts behind bars to the love of
Jesus Christ.
Community Life
Boy Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 811, sponsored by
St. Angela Merici Church, provides
boys aged 10-18 with opportunities to
camp, volunteer, and learn. Our
Scouts learn a multitude of outdoor
and life skills, practice leadership, and
develop self-reliance. Our Scouts
have camped on Catalina, in Wyoming, and at the 2005 National Boy
Scout Jamboree in Virginia. Troop
811’s Scouts contribute to St. Angela
community. They regularly serve at
Lenten Fish Fries and help out at
SummerFest. They decorate hundreds of veterans’ graves at Memory
Garden Memorial Park. A key measure of a quality Scouting program is
the number of boys who choose to
remain in the program beyond the first
year or two. Since 2001, Troop 811
has had 21 boys achieve the rank of
Eagle Scout – the highest rank a
Scout can obtain. Recent Eagle projects include creation of a prayer garden, major landscaping, fencing, the
message board in the parish plaza
and $5000 worth of lighting improvements for the school, composting station and a facility site map. We are
thankful to our parish for its continued
support of Troop 811.
Serving God by serving others
Cub Scout Pack 811
Recognized as one of the most outstanding Catholic Cub Scout Packs in
the nation, our Pack is made up of over
60 boys; 5 dens ranging from K to
grade 5. Although a majority of scouts
come from St. Angela School, boys
come join us from elementary schools
the surrounding cities. Our scouts make
and race boats, cars, and rockets. We
go camping, fishing, and hiking. We
plant trees for the City of Brea, honor
our veterans at Memory Garden Cemetery, feed the homeless at St. Angela,
and sing to residents at local nursing
homes. We enrich their Catholic Faith
through earning religious emblem
awards and going to church together
every month.
Girl Scouts
Building girls of courage, confidence, and character
Girl Scouting is a continuous adventure in learning that offers every girl a broad
range of activities: field trips, cultural exchanges, community service, leadership
opportunities, skill-building workshops and outdoor education to address her current interests and her future role as a successful woman. Through the guidance of
trained leaders Girl Scouting helps each girl learn to set and reach goals, develop
leadership skills, form lifelong habits for community service work, and reach her
fullest potential through personal growth and career exploration. In the supportive
environment of the troop setting, Girl Scouts discover the fun, friendship and
power of girls together. Though the events vary in length and complexity, they all
promote the unique experience that is Girl Scouting.

Breakfast and Travel Club
The Breakfast and Travel Club is not
really a club at all just a fun group of
folks who enjoy eating and visiting various sites in the surrounding areas. We
gather for breakfast following the 8:00
am Eucharist on the third Friday of
each month, developing friendships
and sharing a delicious hot meal, at no
charge! Come join us for the fun. While
we eat, we discuss our travel plans.
Trips occur every other month and
we’ve visited many local destinations:
Mission San Luis Rey, the Huntington
Library, Catalina Island, and Santa Barbara to name a few. Come and join us
for a relaxing morning meal or on one
of our travel adventures. You are always welcome to join the fun.
Emergency
Resource Response
St. Angela's Emergency Preparedness
Ministry is dedicated to preparing the
Parish for an emergency or disaster. Our focus is parishioner safety
education and Community Emergency
Response Training (CERT). While
medical, ham radio and emergency
skills are valuable, ALL parishioners
are encouraged to participate.
Volunteers will be trained in using the
Incident Command System, coordinating rescue efforts with emergency responders. While our work is serious,
the group is friendly with most work
done on-line allowing volunteers flexibility donating their time. Come serve
the Body of Christ.
For where your treasure is,
there your heart will also be.
—Luke 12:34
Whatever is true, whatever is
honorable, whatever is just,
whatever is gracious,
if there is any excellence
and if there is anything
worthy of praise,
think about these things.”
—Phil. 4:8
Marriage Encounter
Worldwide Marriage encounter offers
a weekend experience designed to
give married couples the opportunity
to learn the keys to loving communications that they can use for the rest
of their lives. The weekend is a positive, simple, common sense experience between husband and wife,
which revitalizes marriage by helping
a couple start with the love they have
for each other and to build and
deepen the relationship. Marriage
Encounter is open to all couples with
good marriages regardless of faith or
financial status. The weekend starts
on Friday evening at 8:00 pm and
ends with Eucharist on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm. A series of presentations are given to the group as a
whole. After each presentation the
husband and wife have time in the
privacy of their hotel room for their
own personal sharing on what was
presented. You do not have to share
your marital relationship with the
group on the weekend. This is a time
for you and your spouse to be alone
together, to rediscover each other and
to focus on your relationship for an
entire weekend. Every marriage deserves that kind of attention.
Finance Council
The Finance Council of Saint Angela
Merici is coordinated by the pastor together with the Office and Finance
managers and three or four appointed
members. These members are experts
in various fields of finance, business
and legal affairs. They provide the pastor with advice and recommendations
that enable him to fulfill the administrative responsibility of the parish’s welfare. The Council meets quarterly to
review the parish finances as well as
oversees and approves with the pastor
the parish budget. The work of the Finance Council helps assure that the
resources of Saint Angela Merici are
adequately protected and used to
achieve the most good.

Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council serves in a consultative relationship to the Pastor by
setting long range goals for the parish.
The Council investigates, discerns, and
recommends to the Pastor suggestions
involving pastoral matters. We offer
practical wisdom, reflection based in
dialog and prayer, and purposeful plans
to unite the parish community. All decisions are reached by consensus and
the Council defers to the Pastor and
professional staff for detailed implementation. The scope of the Council is
pastoral matters on the seven elements
of parish life: evangelization, worship,
Word, community, service stewardship
and leadership. The long range plans
of 3-5 years focus on the parish’s spiritual life within the basis of these seven
elements.. The Council members are
volunteers who are chosen for their
ability to lead and their ability to unify
as a cohesive group and accomplish
the goals of the Pastoral Council.
The Pastoral Council adopted our parish mission statement (see cover).
The Pastoral Council members are
proud to be part of this special organization devoted to enhancing the individual parishioner’s spiritual life in our proactive and most gratifying parish.
Monaguillos
Juntos
LA
DIFERENCIA
No importa cual sea su
edad, no importa de
donde vengan, no
importa quien son, hay
un lugar para ustedes en
Santa Angela Merici.
Conocerán una gran
cantidad de gente
amistosa, van a escuchar

Visitando a

A través
