T
his weekend we welcome Father Peter Stravinskas, the editor of the Catholic Encyclopedia, who will be preaching at
all of our Masses both in English and Spanish. He will be speaking to us about the importance of Catholic education
and Catholic schools. Such an important work in the service of the Gospel and the building of the Kingdom of Christ is surely
an appropriate reflection well-suited for the Solemnity of Pentecost, as we ponder the action of the Holy Spirit among us.
The Holy Spirit is the principal evangelizer, the main “spreader” of the Gospel, who animates and enables all of us to carry
our faith into every aspect of our lives. It is the Holy Spirit who makes us docile to divine teaching and prompts us to grow in
our faith and to mature in the Christian life. It is the Holy Spirit, who propels us to spiritualize our lives and to do our part in
the life of the Church, to evangelize, to witness to, and announce the Gospel in our own sphere of influence, as well as to pass
on the Saving Word to the next generation of followers of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is promised to the Church and its members as the Advocate, the Consoler, the Interior Teacher in the
intimacy of our consciences and the depths of our hearts. The Holy Spirit, therefore, prompts growth in the Church, inspires in
us every good deed and holy aspiration, and gently instructs us in the ways of truth, according to each one’s own spiritual
capacity. Saturating ourselves in God’s Word and in the living tradition of the Church which was founded by Christ, is what
participation in the life of the Church is meant to accomplish, and is what Catholic education is meant to foster, disposing us to
give ready welcome to the action of the Spirit. Wonderful, indeed, it is how the Holy Spirit sets aflame in our hearts a more
ardent desire to strive for and to live according to the example of Jesus, the Master Teacher, in the ways of love, charity,
and peace. Being an integral part of the worshiping Eucharistic community of the believers, supported by quality Catholic
education, surely provides an important staging ground for this inspired work to take place.
How beautiful it is that the Holy Spirit equips the Church and its members with many spiritual gifts, enabling them to
bring about the Kingdom of God in their own lives, in their surroundings, and in the world. As we learn how to place our souls
in concert with the Spirit, we are able to discern our own charisms meant to build up the Church and the community of God’s
people. No wonder, then, that education in the faith through Catholic schools and parishes is a central work of the Church, and
evidence of the action of the Holy Spirit. Through such work, the world is transformed and made new.
Prayer in the Spirit, of course, helps us to place ourselves in communion with God and to be strengthened in our
knowledge of God’s will for our lives. By calling upon the Holy Spirit, and trusting in God’s loving presence and providence, we
are inspired to live life in its fullness. The Holy Spirit makes these efforts fruitful, even while a deeper understanding and
appreciation of the teachings of Jesus is fostered in us.

Now that Jesus’ earthly mission is complete, he has
ascended, and the promised gift of the Holy Spirit has
descended upon the world, it is now our turn to glorify God
through our human lives. The whole of the Church — its
preaching and teaching, sacraments, sorrows and joys,
strength and weakness, charisms and ministries, life and death
— continues the falling and rising of the life of Jesus. The
Paschal Mystery and the “Great Commission” are both played
out in the lives of the redeemed.
Come, Holy Spirit, help us to cooperate with you in being
“spreaders” of the Good News of the Gospel.

PLANNED GIVING
Planned giving provides an opportunity to donate a gift that will
forever perpetuate our Catholic heritage. Through your gift you
will help build an active and faith-filled Church that is able to
pass on our Catholic faith to future generations. One way to
accomplish this is through an endowment. For more information,
contact the rectory or call the Office of Planned Giving at
(305) 762-1110.

Our next concelebrated Healing Mass, during which the Sacrament of the
Anointing of the Sick will be bestowed, will take place on Tuesday, June 14th
at 7:00pm in church. Anyone approaching surgery, recovering from an
operation, possessing serious health concerns, or bearing the weight of years
are especially invited to be present and partake of the Lord’s assurance of grace.
We will be having a parish yard sale on Saturday, June 11th, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the
parking lot across from the parish office. All are welcome to peruse the items. As the saying
goes, “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” Anyone who would like to rent a
space to market and sell their own items can do so by calling Jorge Perez at our
Advancement Office, 305-446-9950. Limited spaces will be available for $10.
Father Davis, our Pastor and former Director
of Liturgy at two seminaries, will be offering a
four-session instructional module which will
explore the historical beginnings of the Catholic
liturgical and sacramental tradition. This primer
on liturgical history is based on the course that
he taught seminarians as they prepared for the
priesthood.
Though the June sessions are now filled,
another session may be offered again in the fall.
More information will be forthcoming. Thank
you for your interest!
Father Davis will be leading our second “spiritual
field trip” to visit two archdiocesan locations of the
Jubilee Year “Holy Doors” on Thursday, September
1st. The details have just been confirmed. We will
leave Little Flower at 8:30am, arriving St Anthony’s
Church in Fort Lauderdale at 10:15am. We will be
greeted by the Pastor, enter through the Holy Door,
take a brief tour, and be on our way to our next stop.
Then we will go to Our Lady of Mercy Church
in Deerfield Beach. We will arrive at 11:45am,
be greeted by the Pastor, enter through the Holy
Door. Celebrate Mass, and have a catered lunch by a
chef from the parish. We will return to Little Flower
by 2:45pm. We can only accommodate the first
50 people who sign-up. Tickets will be $49.95 for the
day trip excursion. Call Jorge Perez at our
Advancement Office, to get your name on the list.
305-446-9950, ext. 318.
Have you ever wanted to go to the Holy Land? Our next international pilgrimage trip to Israel is scheduled
for March 10-19, 2017. Designed by the nationally renowned Catholic Travel Centre from California, we will
embark upon a ten-day spiritual journey, entitled “A Lenten Retreat with Father Davis in the Holy Land.” A free
color brochure will soon be available. Capacity of 50 seats on this tour. Bethlehem, Nazareth, Carmel, Caesaria,
Cana, Jerusalem, Jericho, the River Jordan, and the Dead Sea will be among the highlights. Mass at the Church of
the Holy Sepulcher too! Contact Father Davis to get you name on the mailing list. 305-446-9950, ext. 301.
An Information evening is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5th at 7:30pm in Comber Hall.
As we inaugurate this year’s Fortnight of Prayer for Religious Freedom initiative
(June 18 thru July 2), Archbishop Wenski will be here to celebrate 10:30am Mass on
Sunday, June 19th. He recently informed us that our parish has been selected to be
the host site for the public veneration of the RELICS of two famous martyrs,
Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher. The relics will be at our parish for nearly
24 hours, accompanied by the Sisters of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary,
starting in the morning of Sunday, June 19th. More information to follow.
As part of the special events during the upcoming Fortnight of Prayer, there will be a liturgy of
prayer, adoration, and solemn benediction on Monday, June 27th at 7:00pm. Intercessory
prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, as a spiritual assist for the upcoming national
conventions and the elections soon to follow, will be of particular importance.
All are welcome.
Join us in honoring America at our annual Patriotic Prayer Service on Thursday, June 30th, at
7:30pm in church. As part of the annual Fortnight of Prayer for Freedom, replete with hymns that
will engender love of nation, sung by our parish choir, the 45-minute para-liturgical service will
include readings as well as candle-light intercessory prayer. The event will be followed by a social in
Comber Hall. All are welcome.
SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE FOR THE
90TH ANNIVERSARY CHALICE
Sacred vessels are of great importance to the
liturgical life of any parish. They are made of
precious metals and are hand-crafted so as to last
for many years. As we prepare for our parish’s
90th anniversary liturgy to be held this Fall on
October 17th, we’d like to purchase a beautiful
chalice and paten which will mark the occasion
and serve for years to come, holding the precious
Body and Blood of Christ for the life of our
people. If you would be interested in contributing
towards or sponsoring this chalice and paten,
memorializations are available. The total cost of
the personally commissioned initiative from an
artisan in Spain will be approximately $13,000.
For more information, contact Father Davis or
the Advancement Office, 305-446-9950.
Considering all the streaks, stains, cracks,
plaster damage, and paint chips that have
been increasingly so evident on the exterior
of our church, it has been decided that is
needs a make-over and a fresh paint job.
Bids have been acquired. Archdiocesan
permissions have been secured. Hopefully
all will be done in time for the 90th
anniversary liturgy on October 17th. Almost
all of the fundraising has already been done
for this expensive project. We need
approximately $10,000 more to reach the
project goal. Sponsorships are welcome.
Please contact Father Davis or our parish
Advancement Office, 305-446-9950.

WHY IS IT
A man wakes up after sleeping
under an ADVERTISED blanket
on an ADVERTISED mattress
and pulls off ADVERTISED pajamas
Georgette Rodríguez-Vázquez, MD
bathes in an ADVERTISED shower
shaves with an ADVERTISED razor
brushes his teeth
with ADVERTISED toothpaste
washes with ADVERTISED soap
puts on ADVERTISED clothes
drinks a cup
Mario A. Sabatés, M.D.
of ADVERTISED coffee
drives to work
in an ADVERTISED car
and then . . . .
refuses to ADVERTISE
believing it doesn’t pay.
Later if business is poor
he ADVERTISES it for sale.
