A Free Marriage Enrichment Seminar
presented by Jerry & Lynn Jones
THE GRACEPLACE~DUNCANVILLE CHURCH OF CHRIST
Marriage Matters is a 13-session seminar that focuses on incorporating God
into real-life issues of marriage and family. Each session explores some of the
complex issues and emotions surrounding marriage and is filled with sound
psychological advice and biblical direction.
Using God-centeredness as the
foundation, the seminar presentations provide information for maintaining good
marriages and explain in a very down-to-earth manner the origin of many marital
problems and the solutions to counter them.
Presenters Dr. Jerry Jones and
his wife Lynn bring unique experiences
and exceptional qualifications to this
seminar.
Jerry’s education includes a
doctoral degree, and his 40-year teaching
ministry has taken him to 43 states and 6
foreign countries.
Lynn’s education
includes a master’s degree in clinical
psychology. They are guaranteed to make
you laugh, cry, and truthfully evaluate
yourself and your family relationships.

Upcoming SNA’s:
Some Fall Plans
from your Youth
Minister
As summer winds down and I begin to
make my shift to fall mode, I have the
unique opportunity this year to do
some things differently because of the
arrival of Kim Tucker. In an effort to
continually communicate to you my
new job role and expectations, I want
to share one main objective for this
fall. With such a large youth group
and one youth minister, I have made
some difficult decisions about where
to place my time and efforts.
Although I have been pleased with the
results of such decisions, there have
been some consequences (i.e. several
people that need my attention have not
received it). This fall, one of my main
goals is to reconnect with parents and
volunteers. I want to be able to help
each of you out in your walks as
parents. Additionally, I want to grow
as a youth minister and need your
honest feedback to do so. I hope that
we can find some time in the next few
months to get together and discuss the
future of
the youth
program.
God Bless.

“End of
Summer” Video
Review
As I look back on Wednesday Night’s
videos, I’m reminded of what a special
group of teenagers we have. It was an
unbelievable summer, and I’m so
proud of the teens. We had such a
great time with the teens and all of our
guests watching these videos. I am
going to do my best to make DVD’s
available for everyone.
I will
definitely put them up on the website
in the next week or two. Thanks to
everyone who was there! And the
Oscar for best supporting actor goes
to: David Vehon! The Oscar for a
lead male goes to: Caleb Willis. The
Oscar for leading female goes to:
Teresa Broughton. Way to go!
Teen-led Worship:
August 31
The Youth Group has been asked to
lead our Sunday morning worship on
Sunday, August 31st, in both services.
The worship services will focus
primarily on the “Power of Prayer.”
This will be an opportunity to convey
many of the events and testimonies we
received from the CHOP Shop earlier
this month. If at all possible, please
try to be present for this Sunday. And
to those leaving for college, see if you
can make it back for this event (you’ll
probably need to wash your clothes
anyway).

Pro-Deo Groups
are Coming!
Hey, teens and parents, school is just
around the corner. I know many
teen’s hearts are breaking, but there
are some things to look forward to and
one of them is Pro-Deo groups! Each
year, our Wednesday night small
groups get better and better, and this
year will be no exception. We have
some really great things planned for
you this year.
September 14: TBA
Thoughts from
Kim...
Ever wondered how you could eat
eggs, bacon, omelets, and top it off
with chocolate chip pancakes for your
daily breakfast and never gain a
pound? All you have to do is swim
five hours every day according to
Olympic gold medalist, Michael
Phelps.
Easy, huh?
I love the
Olympics for several reasons. I love
the inspiring stories told, the passion
that drives the athletes, and their
discipline. I love watching the joy and
excitement come over the winners
once they realize their
accomplishment. But especially, I
love seeing the world (over 200
countries competing and more
watching) come together and unite for
one event. This is the one time where
you even hear of countries like Oman,
Vanuatu, San Marino, or Djibouti. It
is also a time where you see individual
examples of peace, and people loving
each other like the athletes of Georgia
and Russia, despite the war and
tension amidst their countries, hugging
and congratulating one another. Every
two years, the Olympics remind me of
what truly matters to “live in harmony
with one another; be sympathetic, love
as brothers, be compassionate and
humble. Do not repay evil with evil or
insult with insult, but with blessing,
because to this you were called so that
you may inherit a blessing” (I Peter
3:8-9).
Meeting scheduled for TODAY,
August 17, after the 2nd Assembly
in Room 153. Please attend this
meeting if you are planning to go
to Mexico.
If you are interested in teaching or
helping with the ESL classes this year,
please call Maggie Shepherd (972-2983424) or Cheryl Moreno (214-300-1494).
This is a great ministry and the students
are so very appreciative. By improving
their English skills, it helps them with
their jobs and community involvement.
You will only be committing for this
year. Please pray about this, and if you
can help us, please let us know as soon as
possible.

whole wonderful process involves you!

doesn't have hurts, hang-ups, or some bad
habits?...In the next few weeks we will tell
you more about the wonderful ministry we
have going at a Duncanville apartment
complex on Wed. evenings, and looking to
expand. Derald and Leslie Young and their
helpers are ministering to a bunch of young
people...Now is the time to invite a friend or
neighbor to the Marriage Matters

as will you. Then we follow up with a trip

We want everyone to enjoy their marriage

SERVING TOGETHER...
Our Deepest Sympathies to
Chasity Bryant in the loss of her father
Libby Harrison in the loss of her grandfather
Classes will soon be back in session for
our kiddos. Several are headed off to
college while others will start their first
day of kindergarten, and there’s a whole
host of others in between. The prospect of
a new school year creates a variety of
emotions from both students and parents,
but I think most see this time of year as
time of new opportunities: new
opportunities for new friends, a fresh start,
learning something new, etc., etc., etc.,
abound. This fall will bring several new
classes down here at the church house. We
will have several new Wednesday evening
classes including one that will be a survey
of the Old Testament, and of course our
wonderful women’s classes.
Sunday
mornings will also bring new opportunities
including a new marriage series in the
Family Builders class. Ron will continue
the tradition of his Monday Night
Discussion Group. More information on
all of these class opportunities will be
coming in the next few weeks, so stay
alert! We do have one new class starting
today—it’s entitled, “The Man I Want to
Be,” and it is especially for men. Ladies
encourage your guys to attend this sixweek class because it will make a
difference in his life. (P.S. Ladies, you can
also come to the class to encourage your
man!) We meet in Room 215 at 9:45 am;
come a little early for a cup of freshlyground, freshly-brewed coffee at the Grace
Café.
~Hugs, Jeff Conrad

and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 8Above all, keep fervent in your love
for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 9Be hospitable to one

Romans 12: 9-13: 9Let love be without hypocrisy Abhor what is evil; cling to
what is good. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to

some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Matthew 25: 34-36:
IMPORTANTS CONSIDERATIONS:
• Hospitality is an ancient custom at the very heart of many social
orders. Gated communities and travel lodges are a recent
phenomenon.
• Practicing gracious hospitality is an important way for disciples to
reflect God’s kindnesses extended our way.
• New Testament instructions that highlight hospitality are usually
given in a larger context of loving one another. Romans 12:13
typifies this pattern. Note as well we are “to pursue” hospitality. It
is an active, not passive, social requirement.
IMPORTANT APPLICATIONS:
• In an impersonal and fragmented culture, the church can positively
impact the community with radical and generous hospitality.
• Church events, fueled by generous and thankful disciples, like the
Great-Back-To-School-Give-Away, provide us important
opportunities to practice what we preach.
• As in the real estate business, kingdom business is promoted with
three important words: Invite! Invite! Invite!
• Hebrews 13:2 presents us with a bewildering scenario: Have you
entertained angels without knowing it?
• Likewise, the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25: 31-46 throw us for
a loop. The way we treat others influences the way Jesus regards
us. How do you deal with strangers, misfits, the disadvantaged, and
the disenfranchised?
• We must budget liberally as individuals and collectively to insure
we practice radical generosity and gracious hospitality.

INGRESAN NIÑOS A
CLASES
Se aproxima la fecha en
que todos los niños
ingresan nuevamente a
clases, 25 de agosto. Ya que los niños
regresan a clases, también regresa la
normalidad de salidas vacacionales y de
salidas a otras ciudades. Posiblemente
nuestra asistencia en los servicios los
domingos y los miércoles aumente un
poco más. Aun así, aunque no llegue
aumentar, es importante que todas las
familias de esta congregación, tengamos
en cuenta la importancia de nuestra
asistencia. Cuando nos encontramos
todos presentes, damos conocer con
nuestra presencia sobre muchas otras
cosas, que podemos contar con el apoyo
de todos. Y cuando podemos contar con
el apoyo de todos podemos lograr
mucho más. Por lo tanto, esperamos nos
sigan apoyando, así como lo han hecho
siempre.
SE APROXIMA ENTREGA DE
UTILES ESCOLARES
Deseamos recordarles a todos, una vez
más, sobre la entrega de los útiles
escolares la cual se ha programado para
el 23 de este mes. Ya todo está listo
para la actividad, todos los
coordinadores y organizadores han
trabajado arduamente para que todos los
voluntarios participen y para que todo se
haga con el mayor orden posible. A
todos ellos agradecemos por su tiempo y
atenciones dados a este proyecto. Si
para estas fechas, nadie se comunicado
con usted sobre qué posición ocupara en
las actividades, por favor comuníquese
con uno de los coordinadores lo más
pronto sea posible; ya sea con nuestro
hermano Jerry Gonzalez o con nuestro
hermano Gustavo Lomeli.

PROXIMO BKU
ORACIONES
CALL TO WORSHIP

juntos, probando diferentes platillos y
sirviendo una causa que merita nuestro
apoyo. Esperamos todos nos puedan
acompañar para la ocasión.
DOMINGOS:
Nuestro hermano Jeff Conrad ha
organizado una salida de misiones
destinada para la ciudad de Piedras
Negras, México. Y busca familias
