The Knights of Columbus Council 1271 of the Old Mission and Nativity of Our Lady parishes honors all mothers today with a beautiful prayer card all their own. These cards will be distributed at each Mass as long as supplies last. One card per mom please as we do have a limited supply. A mother is someone who sweeps the clouds away and paints a rainbow in their place. A mother is someone who shows you that the sun is seeping through the clouds even when it is raining. A mother is someone who teaches you that it is not always so bad to drop your leaves in the fall. “They’ll come again in Spring,” she says, With rainbows miracles and blooming love.” When the springtime finally comes you realize she was right. She had a paintbrush. Happy Mother’s Day - MLS 1977 PAGE 2 Parish Center Administration Rev. Russell Brown, Pastor Rev. Braulio Valencia, Parochial Vicar Rev. Jim Nisbet, In Residence Deacon Chuck M. Carmen and Felipe came to Catholic Charities in 2015. Felipe lost his job in July 2015 and Carmen gave birth to their third child, Jonathan on August 2015. The money they had saved went towards the rent for the month of August and September and baby expenses. After explaining Pathway to Stability, Felipe and Carmen wanted to participate in this program, and enrolled on the next start date. In the month of October, Carmen and Felipe were part of Pathway to Stability. During the face-to-face interview the Catholic Charities resource specialist helped the family enroll in CalFresh, and learned that Carmen was the care provider for her grandmother. After explaining (In-home Supportive Services) IHSS, Carmen called and participated in a program orientation. On the employment front Felipe continue to submit three applications per week at different job openings. Together Catholic Charities and Felipe were able to upload a resume to several job search engines. In the month of November, Carmen’s case was approved by IHSS and she was assigned as the care giver for her grandmother. By the end of the month Felipe, received a call from a mushroom company that would offer him a job. Currently the family is working on their savings and is constantly applying for Affordable housing in the Area. Please remember this family and others like them, during the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal, May 14/15. Thank you for your support of Catholic Charities! Retreat Offering: “Resting Deep in the Faith” Jesus said, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31. Join Fr. Jeffrey “Skip” Thompson, MSA, for a 5 day, 4 night retreat in the cloister of the old Mission San Antonio in Jolon, CA. May 19-23, 2016. For information on the program, costs and deadline for registration email: [email protected]. Or call him directly at: 916-710-1991. Conference topics include: Resting in the fact of Jesus Christ; Desire and vision for life; Resting in the reasonableness of faith; Confidence in the Church and the Scriptures; Divine encounter with God via the Eucharist; the Relief of Sanctity; Saints allied with us… and much more. Space is limited. R eturning and Inactive Catholics Welcome! If you are a Catholic who has been away, or are becoming less active, we invite you to be active again. Letting them know that he is about to leave them, Jesus instructs the Apostles to continue the ministry which he began. They are to remain in Jerusalem until they are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. After delivering these instructions, Jesus raises his hands as in victory and ascends to heaven. The disciples are filled with joy as they return from Bethany to Jerusalem. Reflection question: Adults: Who in your family has the gift of wisdom? How does he or she use this gift?
