FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Friends in Christ,
Although I am not with you this weekend due to my pilgrimage to Rome, I desire
to take this me to wish you a Happy New Year. We begin our new liturgical
year this weekend and I am hopeful that our renewal this year with our Centennial Year coming to a close all too soon will not lose its momentum as the Year
of Faith on an interna onal level just began in October. I will get home from
Rome some me Thursday night. Friday is the first Friday of December and as
tradi onally is the case here in Plant City there will be the Annual Christmas Parade Friday evening. The Aztec Dancers also known as the Matachines will be
there and they are always a hit. Many of the spectators go into the tradi onal
Indian call when they see the feather headdresses but then are taken aback
when the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe appears. It’s a wonderful reminder
to our Bap st and un-churched neighbors that the whole reason we celebrate
Christmas is because of the “yes” of Mary. Amidst the major prepara ons for
the grand Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, let us not
forget that the Solemnity of the Immaculate Concep on on December 8th is actually a holy day of obliga on, or as someone once said, a holy day of opportunity. The Mass schedule for next Saturday’s Solemnity is as follows: Vigil Mass on
Friday at 7:00pm in Spanish, English Mass Saturday morning at 8:00am, and a
whole community Mass at 10:00am on Saturday morning followed by the Interna onal Rosary in the Chapel. The young couples that will be ge ng married
that day scheduled their weddings on that day quite some me ago and I didn’t
have the heart to say no when I was reminded that the general rule for holy
days falling on Sat. or Mon. does not apply to this par cular Solemnity because
Our Lady of the Immaculate Concep on is the Patroness of our country. What is
that general rule you ask? Usually when a holy day of obliga on falls on a Sat. or
a Mon. the obliga on to par cipate in Mass is removed although the liturgy is
s ll celebrated as a holy day. In my book, every day is holy because God made
it. When December 12th falls on the weekend or close to the weekend we have
had the custom of ren ng the stadium facility for a block of three or four days,
ge ng carnival rides and using our volunteers for food concessions. Because
December 12th falls on a Wednesday this year our efforts will be focused on the
spiritual celebra on beginning at 6pm on Tuesday, building to a crescendo with
a Midnight Mass with Bishop Lynch Tuesday night which happens to be
12/12/12 @ 12:00am. Our normal 6:30pm Wednesday Mass is cancelled. May
this Season of Advent help us truly prepare the way of the Lord, increasing in
holiness individually and as a community of faith.

MISSIONARY IMAGE OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
OLG appeared in Mexico as the pregnant Mother of God
to St. Juan Diego, an Indian, in 1531. She le a Miraculous
Image of her appearance on his cactus fiber cloak which
s ll exists today and can be seen by all at the Basilica near
Mexico City. Our Lady came to offer faith, hope and consola on to the oppressed Indians. She put an end to the
human sacrifice of the Aztecs and converted 9 million Indians in the next nine years!
Today she comes to visit us as the Missionary Image of

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
Aunque no estoy con ustedes este fin de semana ya que estoy en un peregrinaje a Roma, deseo tomar este tiempo para desearles un Feliz Año Nuevo.
Comenzamos nuestro nuevo año litúrgico este fin de semana y espero que nuestra renovación este año y con nuestro Centenario llegando a su fin, no perdamos
el impulse durante nuestro Año de Fe que comenzó internacionalmente en Octubre. Regreso a casa de Roma el jueves por la noche.
Este viernes es el primer viernes de diciembre y como es tradicional en
Plant City, tendremos un desfile de navidad el viernes por la noche en cual los
matachines estarán ahí. Muchos de los espectadores hacen la llamada de los
indios cuando los ven pasar pero toman un paso para tras cuando ven a la estatué de Ntra. Sra. de Guadalupe. Es un recordatorio para los Bautistas y los vecinos que no van a la Iglesia que la razón por la que celebramos Navidad es por el
“si” de Maria. En medio de las preparaciones de la gran Fiesta de Ntra. Sra. de
Guadalupe, patrona de las Américas, no olvidemos la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción el 8 de diciembre, un día de precepto. El horario de Misas para la
solemnidad es el siguiente: Misa Vigilia el viernes a las 7pm en español, Misa en
Ingles el sábado por la mañana a las 8am, y a las 10:00am Misa de toda la comunidad seguido por un Rosario Internacional en la Capilla. Las parejas que se estarán casando ese sábado habían apuntado la fecha de su boda con anticipación y
no tuve el Corazón para decirles que no cuando me recordaron que las reglas
generales no aplican a esta solemnidad ya que Nuestra de la Inmaculada Concepción es la patrona de nuestro país. ¿Se preguntan cual es esa regla general?
Usualmente cuando un día de precepto caí en un sábado o lunes, la obligación de
participar en misa es removida aunque la liturgia es celebrada como un día de
precepto. En mi libro, todos los días son santos porque Dios los hizo.
Cuando el 12 de diciembre caí en un fin de semana o cercas del fin de
semana, tenemos la costumbre de rentar el estadio por 3 o 4 días, donde tenemos un carnaval con juegos y voluntarios vendiendo comida. Ya que este año el
12 de diciembre caí en un miércoles, nuestros esfuerzos serán enfocados en la
celebración spiritual comenzando el martes a las 6pm y la Misa con el Obispo
Lynch a medianoche el 12 de diciembre. Nuestra Misa normal de los miércoles a
las 6:30pm ha sido cancelada. Que este tiempo de adviento nos ayude a preparar el camino del Señor, aumentando nuestra santidad individualmente y como
una comunidad de fe.

IMAGEN MISIONERA DE NTRA. SRA. DE GUADALUPE
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe se apareció en México como la Madre de Dios a San Juan Diego, un indio, en 1531.
Dejó una Imagen Milagrosa de su aparición en la capa de
fibra de cactus que todavía existe hoy en día y puede ser
vista por todos en la Basílica cerca de la Ciudad de México.
Nuestra Señora vino a ofrecer fe, esperanza y consuelo a
los indios oprimidos. Puso fin a los sacrificios humanos de
los aztecas y convir ó a 9 millones indios en los próximos
nueve años!
Hoy nos visita como la Imagen Misionera de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, un replica exacta de la imagen original
de 4 'x 6'. Esta imagen ha viajado por toda América con la misión de promover
la san dad de las familias, solidaridad en las Iglesias de América, una cultura
de vida y una civilización de amor. Que la Virgen nos traiga esperanza, consuelo, amor, cuidado, protección y ayuda. Que termine el aborto, derrita corazones y convierta a millones como lo hizo hace más de 460 años.
La Imagen Misionera estará aquí en la Parroquia de San Clemente para
veneración pública el Viernes, 14 de diciembre de 8 am - 10 pm en la capilla.
