The following information comes from the dedication
booklet that was created when the church was dedicated.
The Paschal (or Easter) Candle is symbolic of Christ,
the Light of the World (John 8:12). The bronze holder for
the candle is adorned with three (3) bronze angels, arms
outstretched in praise. With the empty tomb behind them,
they proclaim the Resurrection “He is not here; he has been
raised up, exactly as he promised” (Matthew 28:6).
The baptismal pool and Paschal Candle holder were
designed by Sister Mary Peter Tremonte, O.P., the
liturgical consultant and artist.
The design for the stained glass windows is
characterized generally by the use of bold, flowing lines
and spaces that rise and fall, billow, break, and regroup in
an abstract pattern as they travel across the glass form one
area to another. The colors come from the delicate, subtle
side of nature’s palette: pale pink, blue, and grey-white of
the sky; greens and olive of vegetation that gives way to
tans, sand and golden shades of the desert, these stretching
out to meet the watery colors of blue and green again.
In keeping with the theme of the tent (that is the design of
the church), the windows abstractly evoke the images of the
23rd Psalm with its allusions to the desert experience, the
journey, the need for places of light and refreshment.
Paralleling the stages in one’s own spiritual life, the lines
and shapes might remind the viewer of times of dryness,
loneliness and solitude, times of standing still and of great
movement, times of aridity, dying and death, times of
richness, growth and new life.
The expanse of glass is composed of 156 panels
containing more than 80 different kinds of glass, both
domestic and imported. Designed by Sister Mary Peter
Tremonte, O.P., the windows were executed by Conrad
Schmitt Studies on Milwaukee, Wisconsin under the
supervision of Bernard O. Gurenke. They were featured in
the newest edition of the National Catholic Directory for
the United States (in 1981).
The altar, the table of sacrifice and of celebration,
reminds us of the Eucharistic presence of the Risen Lord
and also of the presence of the Body of Christ: ourselves.
Our table is the symbol of who we are as God’s chosen
people. The image on the frontispiece of the altar can
be seen as an abstract tree of life (Gen. 2:9), organic
and growing, “bearing good fruit (Mat. 7:19). The
tree of life symbol is also reminiscent of the tree from
which sprang the shoot who is the Messiah, and the
living tree that became the true Tree of Life: the
Cross. (To be continued).

El cirio Pascual (o Pascua) simboliza la luz de Cristo, luz del

La piscina bautismal y el candelabro de Pascual fueron
diseñados por la hermana Mary Peter Tremonte, O.P., Consultora
litúrgica y artista.
El diseño de los vitrales se caracteriza generalmente por el
uso de líneas gruesas, fluyendo en espacios que se levantan y
caen, se balancean, rompen y reagruparan, en un patrón
abstracto mientras viajan a través de una y la otra. Los colores
provienen de las delicadas y sutiles tonos de la naturaleza, en
rosa pálido, azul y gris-blanco del cielo, los verdes olivos de la
vegetación que dan paso a canela, arena y dorados del desierto,
estas se extienden hasta alcanzar de nuevo los tonos azul y
verde de agua.
De acuerdo con el tema de la tienda de campaña (que es el
diseño de la iglesia), las ventanas abstractamente evocan las
imágenes del Salmo 23 con sus alusiones a la experiencia del
desierto, el viaje, la necesidad de sitios de luz y descanso.
Igualando las etapas en la propia vida espiritual de alguien, las
líneas y las formas podrían recordar al espectador, tiempos de
sequedad, soledad y destierro, los tiempos de parar y del gran
movimiento, los tiempos de la aridez, agonía y muerte, los
tiempos de la riqueza, crecimiento y nueva vida.
La expansión del vitral se compone de 156 paneles que
contienen más de 80 diferentes tipos de vidrio, tanto nacionales e
importados. Diseñado por la hermana Mary Peter Tremonte,
O.P., las ventanas fueron elaboradas por Conrad Schmitt
estudios en Milwaukee, Wisconsin, bajo la supervisión de
Bernard O. Gurenke. Fueron publicadas en la nueva edición del

brote, que es el Mesías, y el árbol de la vida que se
convirtió en el verdadero árbol de la vida: la Cruz.

During the season of Lent and Easter, Christians around the world
are united in a special way with the Holy Land. Our hearts and
minds and prayers are especially aware of the special place the
Holy Land has in Salvation History. Keeping Christianity alive in
the Holy Land is an urgent need. Recent events have been
especially challenging for Christian communities. All Christians are
called to assist our brothers and sisters who now live in the land
that was sanctified by the Lord’s life, death and resurrection. On
Good Friday, April 3 we will have a collection to support
Christianity in the Holy Land. Thank you for your generosity.
Durante la temporada de Cuaresma y semana Santa, los
cristianos alrededor del mundo están Unidos en forma especial
con la Tierra Santa. Nuestros corazones, mentes y oraciones
son especialmente conscientes del lugar especial que tiene la
Tierra Santa en la historia de salvación. Mantener el cristianismo
vivo en Tierra Santa es una necesidad urgente. Los

Thank You IHN volunteers
From March 1-8, CGS hosted 3 IHN families. There
were 6 children ranging from ages 4 to 16 and 4 adults.
With the help of our many dedicated volunteers, we
provided our guests with sumptuous food, hospitality and
a safe environment. Thank you volunteers for your
ongoing support.
We send a special Thank You to high school volunteers for
sparing your time to be a friend, big brother/sister to our younger
guests. They enjoyed playing, story time, baking and decorating
the cupcakes with all of you.
The next time CGS will host IHN is May 31-June 7, 2015.

IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) is a transitional housing
program serving families with children, without homes in our
community. IHN is a partnership with 17 churches in this area
and Northwest assistance Ministries (NAM).

Gracias a los voluntarios de IHN
El pasado 1-8 de marzo, CGS albergo 3 familias en el programa
de IHN. Teníamos 6 niños que van desde las edades de 4 a 16 y
4 adultos. Con la ayuda de muchos de nuestros dedicados
voluntarios, se ofreció a nuestros huéspedes con hospitalidad,
comida extraordinaria y un ambiente seguro. Gracias a los
voluntarios por su continuo apoyo.
Damos un agradecimiento especial a los voluntarios jóvenes de la
preparatoria; por compartir su tiempo y su amistad, ser un hermano/
hermana para nuestros jóvenes huéspedes.

Triumph of the Eucharist
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
(1001 Bissonnet) is hosting an
exhibition by Flemish painter Peter
Paul Rubens from the early 1620’s. It
features paintings and large
tapestries based on his paintings
emphasizing the Blessed Sacrament.
The exhibit continues through May 10, 2015. Entrance to the exhibition
is included with the museum admission, museum members receive free
general admission and Thursdays are free. For more information visit

Triunfo de la Eucaristía
