In previous weeks we have seen how the
theme of covenant—as a preparation for
the baptismal covenant celebrated at
Easter—occupies an important place in our
cycle of Lenten readings. The notion of
covenant as a relationship between two
parties carries with it an expectation of
mutual accountability and fidelity to the terms of the
covenant. When God forged the covenant with the
Jewish people on Mt. Sinai, it was a pledge of God’s
protection, and it would forever permit them familiar
access as the Chosen People. For their part, the Jewish
people were to observe the dictates of the law, summarized most succinctly here in the form of the Ten
Commandments. To be in a covenantal relationship
with the Lord God requires an exclusive relationship,
just as discipleship with Jesus—ritualized in baptism—
demands a total allegiance to him and none other. Copy-

el tema de la alianza, en preparación
para la alianza bautismal que se celebra
en Semana Santa, ocupa un lugar importante en nuestro ciclo de lecturas de la
Cuaresma. La noción de una alianza
como una relación entre dos partes lleva

Our Bishop reflects on Lent Part 3
Change Our Hearts. Help us to accept what we cannot
change in our lives. Lent invites us to accept our limitations and to be grateful for the gifts we have been
given. Some live their lives with resentment, envious of
others’ gifts. One experiences a great freedom in accepting our shortcomings making it possible for us to
be more available for others. As we strive this Lent to
accept our own limitations, accept the limitations of
others whom we love. Make our hearts more accepting
this Lent.
Looking ahead to Easter
The Triduum
Our parish will celebrate the primary liturgies of Easter Triduum (the 3 days) as follows: Holy Thursday, April 5th (Mass
of the Lord’s Supper) at 7:00 PM; Good Friday, April 6th (The
Lord’s Passion) at 7:00 PM; Holy Saturday, April 7th (the
Easter Vigil) at 7:30 PM.
(Please note there will be no confessions nor the regularly
scheduled 5:00 PM Saturday evening Mass on Holy Saturday.)
Easter Sunday
On Easter Sunday, we will have a slightly different schedule
of Masses. The day will begin with a specially scheduled
Mass in Early Morning at 6:30 AM, followed by the regularly scheduled 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM in English; and 1:00 PM
in Spanish, but not the regularly scheduled evening Mass at
7:00 PM. We will also have a special Mass celebration in Polish at 3:00 PM.

Domingo de Pascua
El domingo de Pascua tendremos un horario de Misas un
poco distinto. El día empezará con una Misa programada
especialmente Misa Temprano por la Mañana, a las 6:30 AM,
seguida por la programada normalmente a las 8:00 AM, a
las 10:00 AM en inglés; y a la 1:00 PM en español, pero no
habrá la Misa de las 7:00 PM. También tendremos una Misa
especial celebrada en polaco a las 3:00 PM.

Catholic Relief Services Collection
Next weekend, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection. This Collection supports six
Catholic agencies that touch more than 100 million lives
around the world. The funds from the Collection help
provide food to the hungry, welcome and support to
displaced refugees, and invaluable life skills to those seeking a
better life. Thank you for your generosity.
Parish’s Health & Wholeness Committee
to host two Be Well Arizona programs
Beginning on Tuesday, April 10th, representatives of the
Pima County Health Department will be presenting two
different programs promoting a healthy life style. Signups for these programs will begin next weekend (March
17-18) after the Masses. A minimum of 10 participants is
needed for each program. Both programs are offered free of
charge.
Healthy Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions
This is a workshop developed by Stanford University to help
adults and caregivers successfully live with ongoing health
conditions. It is a series of 6 sessions meeting once a week
from 5:30 until 8:00 PM. The program teaches management
skills through interaction, goal setting and action planning.

las Condiciones Actuales de Salud
Este taller desarrollado por la Universidad Stanford para ayudar a los adultos y sus asistentes a vivir con éxito a pesar de
sus condiciones de salud. Es una serie de 6 sesiones que se
reúnen una vez por semana de 5:30 a 8:00 PM. El programa
enseña a obtener destrezas de interacción, establecer objetivos y planear.
Programa de Caminar
Interested parishioners will meet once a week for 6 weeks on
Tuesdays at 6:00 PM. Each week a different health topic is
presented. This is followed by a group activity and concludes
with a 30 minute walk (at one’s own pace).

A change to our 7:00 PM Sunday evening Mass
Un cambio a nuestra Misa Dominical—7:00 PM
Over the past couple of months, we have been discussing with various parish leadership groups and members of the assembly who regularly attend the 7:00 PM
Sunday Mass the idea of changing it from a Mass in English to a Bilingual Celebration. Recognizing that our parish
has a growing Hispanic membership, yet only one of our 5
Sunday Masses is in Spanish, and that many members of
our Hispanic community attend this evening Mass, the
idea surfaced that this may be the Mass at which we can make
available a second option for Spanish speakers in our parish to
worship in their primary language. At the same time, we want
to maintain for our English speaking members a late-in-the day
opportunity to celebrate Sunday Mass. Adding a second evening Mass was not considered as the attendance at the 7:00
PM Mass does not warrant such a move. With the support of
these various groups, we have decided to make this change
and have begun putting things in place for implementing this
shift.
A key element to making this shift is the leadership of the
Music Ministry. Jorge Gramajo and Adria Laborin have been
hired as Co-directors of Music for this Mass. Together they will
work to implement a more bilingual repertoire of music and
share the role of Choir Director alternating as leaders from
week to week. Together they will work to build up the membership of this choir. In addition, we have begun recruiting new
Liturgical Ministers for this Mass as we have a particular need
for Spanish speaking Lectors as well as Altar Servers and Ushers. If you would like to serve in one of these ministries at this
Mass, please contact Colleen Werbylo at the parish office.
Durante los últimos 2 meses, hemos estado comentando con varios grupos de líderes de la parroquia y con
los miembros de la asamblea que asisten a la Misa Dominical de las 7:00 PM, la idea de cambiarla de Misa en
inglés a una celebración bilingüe. Reconociendo que
nuestra parroquia tiene una creciente membresía hispana, y por ahora sólo una de nuestras 5 Misas Dominicales es en español, y que muchos miembros de nuestra
comunidad hispana asisten a esta Misa nocturna, surgió
la idea de que esta puede ser la Misa que podemos proporcionar en nuestra parroquia a nuestros hispanoparlantes para
que veneren en su idioma natal. Al mismo tiempo, deseamos
conservar para nuestros miembros de habla inglesa una
oportunidad de celebrar la Santa Misa por la tarde. No se
consideró el agregar una segunda Misa nocturna porque la
asistencia en la Misa de las 7:00 PM no lo requiere. Con el
apoyo de estos grupos, hemos decidido cambiarla y hemos
empezado a proceder de modo de implementar este cambio.
Un elemento clave para el cambio es el liderazgo del Ministro Musical. Jorge Gramajo y Adria Laborin han sido empleados como co-directores de la música de esta Misa. Ellos
trabajaran en conjunto para implementar un repertorio de
música más bilingüe y compartirán el papel de Director del
Coro alternando de semana a semana como líderes. Juntos
trabajarán para ampliar la membresía de este coro. Además,
hemos empezado a reclutar nuevos Ministros Litúrgicos para
esta Misa ya que tenemos una necesidad particular para Lectores, Acólitos y Acomodadores de habla hispana. Si usted

La mayoría de nosotros tenemos una auténtica lucha sobre el
problema de la inmigración. El debate público sobre este
problema ha sido muy polarizado y a menudo improductivo.

Most of us recognize that in the United States we have a real
struggle going on over the issue of immigration. Public debate on
this issue has been very polarized and often unproductive. During this Lenten season, inspired by the teaching of the Church,
the pastors of the Pima East Vicariate invite their parishioners to
sit down together and talk about their thoughts and feelings on
immigration and the stories they experienced or heard that undergird these positions. These will be brought into dialogue with
our Church’s teaching on migration and immigration.
Being able to have an open conversation on immigration and
developing a better understanding of this complex issue is the
only way that will allow us, eventually, to think of solutions that
would work for all the people affected by the issue (from the
rancher, the neighbor, the business owner to the border patrol
agent, to the migrants, etc.) Please join us in one of these two

Fr Bruce will be returning to St Cyril on Saturday, April 14th
to offer a retreat for 8th graders thru seniors in HS. Please
make your calendars for this exciting teen event.

watched our parishes little ones so First Eucharist parents
could attend a meeting on Thursday evening.
Confirmation I and High School Youth Group : will meet on

not already attended a training since July 1, 2011 or are a
new volunteer, please join us for one of the following sessions:
 Wednesday, March 21 at 6:30 PM
 Sunday, March 25 at 8:30 AM
 Sunday, April 15 at 10:30 AM
(All sessions will be held in the Activity Center)

Sessions last about 45 minutes and are for adult volunteers.
