19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Distractions
I imagine that at one time or another, we have been tempted, if not actually, used our cell-phones to look at a
text or to send a text reply while driving. The temptation is very real, but it can wait! We all know just how dangerous
texting and driving can really be. Instead of keeping our eyes fixed on the road and all that’s happening around us, our
eyes become fixated on the cell phone screen and our mind wanders trying to type our next text. All in all, we become
distracted from safe-driving, our attention becomes divided, we lose our focus, and when we lose our focus, more often
than not, the results are devastating.
The same can be said of our spiritual-religious-Catholic life. When we lose our focus on Jesus, when we take
our attention away from Jesus, when we start to take priority away from Jesus, the results are devastating…the result is
sin and us being ripped away from Jesus.
Perhaps we become distracted with the worries, problems, fears, and issues of our lives; instead of bringing
those worries and fears to Jesus we leave Jesus out of the equation thinking He can’t do anything about it or that prayer
doesn’t even “work.” That’s not the heart of disciple! Perhaps we become distracted with the successes of our lives; instead of bringing our successes to Jesus and cultivating a heart of gratitude for blessings we have received, we figure we
can do it on our own and we leave Jesus out of the equation. That’s not the heart of a disciple! My dear family, please
most especially do not lose focus and become distracted when it comes to praising and worshiping our gracious God
through the Holy Mass. Don’t let our Sundays (even Saturday Vigils) become too complicated that we become distracted from coming to Holy Mass. We need it more than we think.
Cultivate a heart of gratitude…fortify the mind with personal and communal prayer…live the Gospel message
with joy and zeal…be of service to one another…all simple suggestions we can do in our lives to keep focused on Jesus
at all times! We continue to pray for each other!
Your servant in our Lord, Fr. Ray
Distracciones

World Youth Day 2016
The theme of the XXXI World Youth Day Krakow July 25-31, 2016 is: ‘Blessed are the merciful, for
they shall obtain mercy’ (Mt 5:7). The choice of Krakow and World Youth Day’s motto lead us to the Spark of
Mercy. Since the appearance of Jesus to St. Sister Faustina, Mercy has been radiating from KrakowLagiewniki to the whole universal Church. Krakow is widely known as the centre of worship of God’s mercy,
and young pilgrims who come will surely want to see the place of the revelations, Sister Faustina’s tomb, and
the shrine – the place where St. John Paul II entrusted the world to God’s Mercy. A million and a half young
people from all over the world gathered for the closing Mass. Let us keep all the pilgrims who participated in
this moment of grace in our prayers, especially those from our own parish: Annie and Alicia Paliza (who provided the pictures).
Stopped along the way in Venice!

Schedule
Weekdays: 6:30 am & 5:00pm
Saturday: 4:00pm-5:30pm
Dear Bishop Wilkerson,
I want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation because it is another
step on my journey with God. It will allow me to fully feel the Holy Spirit. My relationship with Jesus has grown so much throughout these past
two years. Once I started attending the youth nights, I found more comfort in my life. I attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indiana
and that's the thing that changed my life the most. It was the first time I
felt Jesus' presence and I felt my life get better from that day forward. I
also felt Jesus' presence during my Confirmation retreat. I was praying
during Adoration. I not only felt him at the moment. I also felt my grandma touch my shoulder and it was 6 months since she passed away. Youth
nights really help me too, because I learn more things about my faith.
