Ray’s Message October 16, 2016 Page 2 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time Faith Lived in Community Who has helped us in our moments of weakness, of doubt, and of trial? Who has stood by us and with us to help us see hope and faith in Jesus when our world around us was being rattled and cast into darkness? Who has helped us deepen our relationship with Jesus and grow stronger as members of the Catholic Church? Mom…dad…sister…brother…aunt…uncle…cousin…an enemy…friend from kindergarten…priest… religious brother or sister…stranger…fellow parishioner. To these questions, I am fairly certain that many of us can come up with at least one name. For the great Old Testament figure Moses, two of those names would have to be Aaron and Hur. Moses in our First Reading this Sunday had the help of Aaron and Hur in gaining victory against Amalek and his army. Aaron and Hur stood by the side of Moses holding his arms up all day till the battle was won! We don’t live out our faith in isolation or in private; we live out our faith, really, in community. Yes it’s true…our faith is deeply personal, but it’s never in isolation or in private. Thank the good Lord that we have people around us to help us, encourage us, and, even dare I say, admonish us to be better men and women of faith! I thank God every day for the people that help me be better a man of faith! Who are the “Aaron” and “Hur” in our life? This week, think of those who have helped strengthen your faith in Jesus and your life in general, whether in the past or in the present. Thank them if you can; if that’s no longer possible, say a prayer of thanksgiving for them. Be strengthened, Fr. Sean fortalecidos, sinceramente, Padre Ray The Happenings October 16, 2016 Page 3 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time Building Campaign Monthly Financial Overview August, 2016 As of the end of August 2016, we are at 59.6% of reaching our goal of $7.4 million needed to complete construction of our new Church. The 59.6% is comprised of $3,637,500.00 in funds in the Los Angeles Archdiocese investment pool and funds in our local bank plus $774,539.00 in 515 active open pledges. 225 of the 515 open pledges are re-pledges that had already completed earlier pledges. Total cash deposit history has us depositing more than the prior year in 5 of the last 8 months which is a very positive sign. Also, during the month, new pledges obtained during the month exceeded last year’s pledges by $32,071.00. Another positive sign that more Parishioners have decided to support the building of our new Church! Currently, the total of cash, investment pool and pledges is $4,412,039.00. In regard to cash deposits, we are currently averaging $48,000.00 per month and at this pace it will take us another 16.7 months to reach our needed objective of $4,440,000.00 in cash. This cash plus $3 million in open pledges, will allow us to start construction of our new Church.
