Dear parishioners,
Sometimes our readings are full of good news; sometimes they abound in hard
warnings. Today we are warned that we need to be attentive to the opportunities around us to
serve others. It’s easy to postpone for another day the steps we need to take. Trusting in
God’s ultimate mercy is only half the story. The other half is our commitment and today may
be the only time we have to respond.
The CCD program started at the beginning of the week (Monday and Tuesday). The
program is being held in the St. Francis school building. More than 300 children have
registered for the program that includes: regular catechism, First Communion, Confirmation
and RCI-T program. If anyone, for any reason, has not had the chance to register his/her
children, please don’t think twice about it and come to our office to enroll your children.
Do you love children and your faith? Please think about that for a moment.
I invite you also to be an assistant, an aide or a substitute in the religious education program
for students in first through eighth grade. If you would like to help, please talk to Bertha
Torres personally at the Religious Education office or call at (856) 691-9181 ext. 106.
The Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church has remained stable with a
participation of about 80 people every Saturday. Some people who for various reasons had
left their ministries now have returned and are serving at this 4:30pm Mass. So at church on
8th Street, we have two choirs as well as lectors, ushers, altar servers and Eucharistic
ministers. I firmly believe that this is a wonderful blessing for our community, especially for
elderly people who live in that area.
Today especially I want to sincerely thank Deacon Roberto Rodriguez, his wife Lucy,
Eduardo Balbuena, and their family members, friends and parishioners who generously, for
countless hours and weeks, have worked in the restoration of the 8th Street Church. The
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church is now completely painted, old rugs were removed, the
wood floor was cleaned, polished and varnished, kneelers were also repaired, and all benches
were painted and varnished. Repairing all windows and some doors of the small church will
be the next step to get this work completed. All this has been done with voluntary donations
from parishioners. Thank you for all the love, dedication, and generosity you have shown in
completing this project.

Queridos parroquianos,
Algunas veces nuestras lecturas están llenas de buenas noticias; pero a veces abundan
en advertencias duras. Hoy se nos advierte que debemos estar atentos a las oportunidades que
nos rodean para servir a los demás. Es fácil dejar para otro día los pasos que necesitaríamos
dar hoy. Confiar últimamente en la misericordia de Dios es solo la mitad de la historia. La
otra mitad nos toca a nosotros y hoy puede ser el único momento que tengamos que
responder.
El lunes y martes de esta semana comenzó el programa de catecismo en nuestra
parroquia. Se está llevando a cabo en el edificio de nuestra escuela de San Francisco. Más de
300 niños se han registrado para el catecismo regular, Primera Comunión, Confirmación, y
también para RCI-T (jóvenes de secundaria y preparatoria que necesitan sacramentos). Si
alguien por alguna razón no ha podido registrar aún sus niños, no lo piense dos veces, venga
pronto a nuestra oficina a inscribir a sus hijos.
Reflexiona lo siguiente: ¿Amas a tus niños y tu fe?
Entonces, te invito a que seas también un asistente, ayudante o sustituto (a) en el
programa de Educación Religiosa para los estudiantes de primero a octavo grado. Si tú
deseas ayudar, habla por favor con Bertha Torres en la oficina de Educación religiosa o
llamando al (856)691-9181 extensión 106.
La misa en la Iglesia del Inmaculado Corazón de María se ha mantenido estable con
una participación de unas 80 personas cada sábado. Algunas personas que por diferentes
razones habían dejado sus ministerios se han re-integrado sirviendo en esta misa de las
4:30pm los sábados. En la calle 8 ahora tenemos dos coros, también lectores, ujieres,
monaguillos y ministros de la eucaristía. Yo creo firmemente que esta es una hermosa
bendición para nuestra comunidad, especialmente para las personas de edad avanzada que
viven en esa área.
Y hoy en especial, quiero agradecer profundamente al diácono Roberto Rodríguez, a
su esposa Lucy, a Eduardo Balbuena, a sus familiares, amigos y parroquianos que
generosamente y por incontables horas y semanas han trabajado en la restauración de la
Iglesia de la calle 8. La Iglesia del Inmaculado Corazón de María está ahora totalmente
pintada, las alfombras viejas fueron removidas, el piso de madera fue limpiado, pulido y
barnizado, también las rodilleras fueron reparadas, y todas las bancas fueron pintadas y
barnizadas. El siguiente paso es reparar las ventanas y algunas puertas de la pequeña iglesia
para ver esta obra terminada. Todo esto se ha hecho con donaciones voluntarias de los
parroquianos. Gracias por el amor, dedicación y generosidad mostrados en este proyecto.
