All Saints Day is Sunday, November 1st. All families are encouraged to research the
saints that interest them most, create a poster, and have the kids dress as a favorite
saint for weekend Masses on Saturday, October 31 or Sunday, November 1.
Whichever Mass you attend, you will be invited to walk in the entrance procession
with Father Todd and Father Martin and present information about your saint to
the parents, friends, and family members after Mass. Check out the fun photos
below from last year’s celebration! For more info, see page 10 of this bulletin!

The Year of Mercy
The Holy Father has declared this coming year to be a “Year of Mercy” for the Catholic Church. It will begin
on Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, 2015 and end on the Solemnity of Christ the King in 2016.
During that time there will be special pilgrimages, indulgences, and an emphasis on receiving and offering
God’s grace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I invite you to spend some time planning for this year and
prepare yourself to receive the healing touch of God’s mercy and forgiveness in a more profound way.
Perhaps you could spend some time reviewing Luke chapter 15, reading a chapter in the catechism on
reconciliation, or just finding out more about confession if you have not been for a while. No matter how
long it has been since your last confession, God is ready to forgive you. Look also for opportunities in the
parish and the Archdiocese to learn more about God’s love and mercy and I pray that this will be a year
where you may truly know of God’s great love for you through His mercy.

El Año de la Misericordia
El Santo Padre ha declarado el próximo año como “El Año de la Misericordia” para la Iglesia Católica.
Empezará con la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción del 2015 y terminará con la Solemnidad de
Cristo Rey en el 2016. Durante este tiempo habrá peregrinaciones especiales, indulgencias, y un énfasis al
recibir y ofrecer la gracia de Dios en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación. Le invito a pasar tiempo planeando
y preparándose este año para recibir el toque sanador de la Misericordia y el perdón de Dios de una
manera más profunda. Quizás pueda pasar algún tiempo revisando el capítulo 15 de Lucas, leyendo el
capítulo del catecismo acerca de la reconciliación, o solamente aprendiendo más acerca de la confesión si
no lo ha hecho en algún tiempo. No importa cuándo fue la última vez que fue a la confesión, Dios está listo

St. Vincent de Paul Warehouse Weekend
St. Monica's next turn to volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul
distribution center is Saturday, November 7. The ~4 hours of
work is not hard, and is great for teens looking for service
hours. Volunteers should meet at the warehouse at 07:45 in

The Lord’s Pantry Still Needs
You!
Did you know that Lord’s Pantry helps
to feed approximately 90 families each
week? If everyone pitches in, each
week's donations will be sufficient.
Just one canned item, one box of pasta,
or one jar of peanut can be a huge help
to a hungry family! Please bring
whatever you can and place it in the bin (located in the lobby
just outside the entrance to our temporary church) before
Mass each weekend. You can also drop off donations during
the week in the Parish Office, currently located in the PYC.
Here is what is most helpful: Pastas; rices; canned goods,
especially canned meats (tuna, beef); soups; peanut butter;
jelly; condiments; boxes of cereals; oatmeal; etc.
No baby items or hygiene items, please. Thank you for your
generosity!
MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT
USHERS
ABOUT THE MINISTRY
Ushers are men and women who welcome members and
visitors when they enter the church. As an usher, you’ll
stand at an assigned location and open doors, offer worship
aids and bulletins, and welcome guests with a smile or a
handshake.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS REQUIRED: Mercy, Caring, Hospitality,
Alertness, Reverence
DUTIES REQUIRED: Greet worshipers, making every attempt
to help them feel welcome and at ease. Escort members
and guests to their seats. Distribute materials related to the
Mass such as bulletins, handouts, etc. Provide assistance or
information to those attending Mass. Assign gift bearers
and take collection to the designated area. Maintain an
alertness for any emergency that may arise.
TIME COMMITMENT: Ushers generally select one mass
time at which they prefer to serve and are assigned one to
two shifts per month. You should arrive 30 minutes prior to
the start of Mass and plan to stay 10-15 minutes after the
liturgy is over.
HOW THIS MINISTRY MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Each parishioner, newcomer, or visitor, comes to St. Monica
with the hope that their time at church will be an uplifting
and inspiring experience. The usher performs a major role
in ensuring that people see and experience the love of
Christ by making all feel welcome and paying attention to
any special needs, such as someone who needs communion
brought to them. The ministry of ushering is of importance
because it is one of the most visible in the church.

Get Involved — Live Your Faith!
All Souls’ Day Mass
The St. Monica Bereavement Ministry invites parishioners to
the All Souls’ Day Mass which will be held at 5:30 pm on
Monday, November 2. In the weeks leading up to
November 2, a podium will be placed on the West wall inside
the St. Ambrose gym in order for you to record the name(s)
of deceased loved ones. While the banners will be hung in
the gym, we regret that our special display table will not be
available this year. However, we do encourage you to bring
your pictures or mementos to keep with you during the Mass
as we especially remember our own deceased loved ones.
Additionally, the Bereavement Ministry is happy to inform
the parish that our annual Memorial Service is still scheduled
for Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 AM in the Emmaus
Center. Please save the date and look for information in
future bulletins.
Brass & String Players Needed for
Christmas Mass
Be part of the musical celebration this Christmas by
accompanying the Christmas Choir. Do you play the trumpet,
trombone, French horn or Tuba? How ‘bout the violin, viola,
cello, or bass? We need brass and string players galore to
make this an exceptional Christmas celebration! For more

Social Justice Film Showing
Last year, the Social Justice Committee showed a film at
St Monica called 'Uncharted: The Truth Behind
Homelessness.' That movie's producers have updated
and re-edited it into a new version called 'Under the
Bridge: The Criminalization of Homelessness.' This new
version is being shown on Thursday, October 29 at 6:30
pm at Purpose of Life Ministries, located at 3705 W
Kessler Blvd N Dr. There is a $10 admission fee at the
door - they updated and improved it to help it be
shown at a national level. Please go see this newer
version to show your support for all the good work they
are doing to attempt to end homelessness here and in
the U.S.

ACERCA DEL MINISTERIO
Los acomodadores son hombres y mujeres que dan la bienvenida a
los miembros y visitantes cuando entran a la Iglesia. Como
acomodador, usted estará en la posición asiganada junto a las
puertas, ofreciendo los misales y boletines, y dando la bienvenida a
las personas con una sonrisa y un saludo de mano.

TAREAS REQUERIDAS: Saludar a los feligreses, hacer todo lo
posible para ayudar a que se sientan bienvenidos y cómodos.
Escoltar a los feligreses e invitados a sus asientos. Distribuir los
materiales relacionados con la Misa como los boletines, folletos,
etc. Proveen asistencia o información para quienes asisten a la
Misa. Asignan a la familia para las ofrendas y toman la colecta en el
área asiganada. Están alertos para cualquier emergencia que
pueda surgir.
TIEMPO DE COMPROMISO: Los acomodadores generalmente
seleccionan una Misa en la que prefieren servir y una o dos veces
por semana. Debe llegar 30 minutos antes de empezar la Misa y
planear quedarse por 10-15 minutos después que termine la
liturgia.
CÓMO ESTE MINISTERIO HACE LA DIFERENCIA
Cada feligrés, persona nueva, o visitantes, viene a Sta. Mónica con
la esperanza de que su tiempo aquí en la Iglesia sea una
experiencia estimulante e inspiradora. El mayor papel de los
acomodadores es asegurarse de que las personas vean y sientan el
amor de Cristo al hacerlos sentir bienvenidos y prestar atención a
las necesidades especiales, por ejemplo si alguien necesita que le
lleven la comunión a su asiento. El ministerio de los
acomodadores es de gran importancia porque es uno de los más
visibles en la Iglesia.

Misa del Día de los Muertos
El Ministerio de Condolencias de Sta. Mónica invita a
todos los feligreses a la Misa del Día de los Muertos que
se llevará a cabo el lunes 2 de noviembre a las 5:30
pm. En las semanas anteriores al 2 de noviembre, se
pondrá un pódium al lado oeste del gimnasio San Ambrosio para que usted pueda poner el/los nombre/s de
sus seres queridos fallecidos. Tendremos el banderín
con los nombres de los feligreses fallecidos durante este
año, pero no tendremos el altar que usualmente
tenemos cada año. Así que lo animamos a que traiga las
fotos de sus seres queridos fallecidos durante la Misa
para recordarlos especialmente. Además el Ministerio
de Condolencias tiene el gusto de informarles que el
Servicio en Memoria de Nuestros Difuntos se llevará a
cabo el sábado, 5 de diciembre a las 10:00 AM en el
Centro Emaús (Cafetería). Por favor, marque esta fecha
en su calendario y busque más información en los
próximos boletines.

de Halloween donde los niños piden dulces no de casa en
casa sino en las cajuelas de los carros. La admisión es $1 o 1
lata de comida por niño. ¡Se premiará a la mejor decoración

Legión de María
La Legión de María le invita a todas las personas a que nos
acompañen a recitar el Santo Rosario todos los domingos a
las 2:00pm (después de Misa de 12:30).
Misa
No tiene que esperar el domingo para asistir a la
Santa Misa. Venga de lunes a jueves a las 5:30. Seguido de la Adoración al Santísimo hasta las 9:00 pm. Esta
Misa NO cumple con su obligación del domingo.
Inglés Como Segunda Idioma
Clases de inglés como segundo idioma para
principiantes e intermediarios empezarán el 9 de
septiembre. Las clases son cada martes y jueves de
6:30 p.m. a 8:30 p.m. Estas clases son en la Iglesia

Celebrate All Saints Day by Researching and Dressing Up as a Saint!
All Saints Day is Sunday, November 1st. There are many saints that have done many incredible things. The Catholic Church has
more than 10,000 saints that it venerates. One can learn so much from their lives, and they can serve us as an inspiration and
as an example of how to follow our Lord Jesus Crist! Just like Pope Francis said, “They [the saints] spent their lives in the service
of others, they endured suffering and adversity without hatred and responded to evil with good, spreading joy and peace…The
saints are men and women who have joy in their hearts and spread it to others. Never hating, but serving the other, is the
greatest need. To pray and to live in joy: this is the way of sanctity! All of us are called to walk in the way of sanctity, and this
way has a name, a face: the face of Jesus Christ” (Pope Francis). All families are encouraged to research the saints that interest
them most, create a poster, and have the kids dress as a favorite saint for weekend Masses on Saturday, October 31 or Sunday,
November 1. Whichever Mass you attend, you will be invited to walk in the entrance procession with Father Todd and Father
Martin and present information about your saint to the parents, friends, and family members after Mass.
Instructions:

Biography of the saint (important events during his/her life)

Make sure to research how did your saint discovered the way to sanctity, how did he/she walked the way of sanctity, what were his/her obstacles, and how did he/she spread joy and peace to others.

Important quotes of your saint and why are they so important to you and to others.

Feast day of your saint and the city where he/she is a patron/patroness.

Any other information that you think is important to know about your saint.
3. Create a poster with the best picture of your saint, and include all your research on the poster.
4. Come, bring, and turn in your final project at the SMS All-School Mass on Friday , October 30 at 8:00am; the All Saints Day
Masses on Saturday evening, October 31, 2015 , OR at any Mass on Sunday November 1, 2015 at St. Monica Catholic Church.

Represent your favorite saint by dressing up like your favorite saint.

Pictures will be taken of the entire family with their posters on October 31st and November 1st.
5. Work together, as a family, all together as one. Everyone, as a family, united with a common goal: to create the best poster
that you can possibly create. Be creative! Good luck!

Hay muchos santos que hicieron muchas obras buenas. La Iglesia
Católica tiene más de 10,000 Santos que veneramos. Uno puede
aprender mucho de sus vidas, y ellos nos pueden servir como

3. Crear un poster con la mejor foto de su santo, e incluir toda su
investigación en el poster.
4. Vengan, Traigan y entreguen su proyecto final en lla Misa de
Escuela el Viernes Octubre 30, 2015 a las 8:00am O a Misa de Todos
los Santo el Sábado Octubre 31, 2015 a las 5:00pm o 7:00pm O en
cualquier Misa de los Domingos el Noviembre 1, 2015 en la Iglesia
Católica de Santa Mónica.
Represente a su santo/a favorito/a vistiendo a un miembro de la
familia o toda la familia como el santo.
Se les tomara fotos a todas las familias junto con su poster el
Octubre 31 y el Noviembre 1.
5. Trabajen en Conjunto, en familia, todos unidos como familia.
Todos como familia, unidos con un solo propósito: hacer el mejor
