Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sunday
Last Sunday at the 8:30 AM Mass, it gave me joy to officially commission our
four Stephen Leaders from the parish: Marolyn Baril, Tony Wolterman, Karen
Edlund, and Mary Ellen Jackson. These Stephen Leaders have undergone intensive
training and preparation. It is they who will do the upcoming training and then
on-going supervision of the more numerous Stephen Ministers. A special thank
you goes out to Marolyn, Tony, Karen, and Mary Ellen for taking on this essential
role. I am also grateful for the many who will soon begin training as Stephen
Ministers, the parishioners that will be sent out to other parishioners to provide
ongoing, one-to-one caring. It won’t be long before we have this great ministry up
and running!
Dt 30:10-14 Ps 69:14,17,30-31,33-34,36-37
Col 1:15-20 Lk 10:25-37
At the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass, it was fantastic to send forth as missionaries twelve
teens and five adults to Cincinnati, Ohio, for Alive in You, a “part conference, part
service camp, and 100% Catholic” experience. Our team will be serving this year
in the inner city of Cincinnati. Of course, our youth have been doing wonderful
service all summer at Catholic Disciples Camp and Homeworks.
Both of these commissionings happened providentially with last Sunday’s
Gospel, where Jesus sends forth the seventy-two disciples to proclaim the Kingdom
of God (Luke 10:1-12; 17-20). Faith to be faith must bear fruit in our daily words
and actions. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is preached in both word and deed as
St. James reminds us, “Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:17)
On a liturgical note, you may have noticed the addition of St. Joseph to
Eucharistic Prayers II, III, and IV. (Previously it had just been in the first one – the
Roman Canon.) This was recently requested by Pope Francis and fulfills a vision
of the late Blessed Pope John XXIII, who had St. Joseph added in 1962 to the
Roman Canon, which was the only Eucharist Prayer until the late 1960s. Saint
Joseph is the patron of the Universal Church, the guardian of the family (as he
guarded the Holy Family), and a wonderful role model and intercessor for all
fathers. Good St. Joseph, pray for us!
We are all anxious for excavations to begin on the site of the new church. There
are some final details being worked out; so it really could be any day now. It is
never too late to join your fellow parishioners on this important endeavor! Just call
or e-mail the church office or me for more information on how you can unite in
helping build our new church.
Next week I hope to write briefly about the Pope’s new encyclical, The Light of
Faith. You can already read it free online at: www.vatican.va or www.usccb.org
Yours in Christ,
Father Wilson

Our Lady of Mount Carmel
is the title given to the Blessed
Virgin Mary in her role as
patroness of the Carmelite Order.
The
first
Carmelites
were
Christian hermits living on Mount
Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th
and early to mid 13th centuries. They built a
chapel in the midst of their hermitages which
they dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, whom
they conceived of in chivalric terms as the
"Lady of the place." Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is
the patron saint of Chile.

Merciful Father, hear our prayer and console
us. As we renew our faith in Your Son,

sisters will share in His resurrection, who
lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
GOING ON VACATION?

While you are on vacation our bills keep coming. Our church needs you
to help support the preaching of the Gospel, its administration of the
Sacraments, keeping its lights and air conditioning on all summer,
helping teach our children about God, and fulfilling its interest in
providing wholesome activities for our teens. Without your tithes we
could not accomplish all we do. Thank you for your weekly donations.
Also, while vacationing this summer, be sure to include your weekly
Mass obligation in your plans. For Mass schedules

Dios no

In this talk, internationally known speaker and author Matthew Leonard
defines and discusses the three traditional stages of prayer. According to
scripture, every one of us is called to "be perfect" and to "pray without
ceasing." Prayer is the path to God and we've been saying prayers all
our lives. But are we really praying? Matthew lays out the practical
steps to achieve union with God through deep prayer, even in the midst
of this busy world.
