Pope Francis’
Prayer for Mercy
Lord Jesus Christ,
You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan
woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit
for ever and ever. Amen.
On Nov. 21, the Church celebrates the Presentation of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple. Remember the dedication, in the year
543, of the Church of Holy Mary the New, constructed near the temple in Jerusalem. We celebrate, then, together with Christians of the Eastern Church, the “dedication” that Mary made herself to God.
In accordance with the tradition of the Eastern Church, when Mary was three years told, her parents took her to the Temple in order to
consecrate her to the Lord’s service. Tradition also has it that Saints John and Anne invited the little girls of the city so that they could be in
front of the child Mary with lit torches. Sacred Scripture does not speak of this. Historical precedents of this feast are provided in the Apocryphal books, principally the “Protogospel of James” (chapter 4). Since the 8th century it has been celebrated in the East as a feast day, under
the name of “The Entrance of the Holy Mother of God into the Temple”. It was introduced in the West (Rome) in 1371. Pope Sixtus IV extended the celebration throughout the entire universal Church in the year 1472. Pope Paul VI, in his Encyclical, Marialis Cultis (1974) tells us
this feast “despite its apocryphal content, presents high values and examples, and transmits venerable traditions that had their origin in the
Eastern Churches” (#8).
Finally, this is also a Hispanic tradition. Once a child reaches three years of age, the parents present him or her before the Church. They
ask the Lord to bless the child and consecrate him or her to Mary's loving care. A ritual exists for this ceremony. Here in our parish, we celebrate this tradition almost every week. You may stop by my office to view some photos of this ceremony.
Your friend and servant ~ Fr. Jesus Camacho

11TH ANNUAL UNDIE
SUNDAY COLLECTION FOR
CORPUS CHRISTI HOUSE IS
THIS WEEKEND!
Our 11th Annual Undie Sunday
is underway this weekend, November 14/15. Throughout the last ten
years our parish has come to the aid of the homeless and less fortunate
in our community by providing new or gently used underwear and
socks, which are not as easily attainable as outer clothing. At least 50
showers are taken each day at Corpus Christi and, if available, clean
clothing is provided. Due to your gifts during Undie Sunday weekend,
clean, warm clothing can be given to these guests. The results of your
generosity will be in the bulletin in a few weeks. The receptacles for
your donations will remain in the Narthex throughout the next week.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity to the needy among us.
A NOTE FROM CATHOLIC PRINTERY Do you have a favorite hair
dresser or barber? What about a dentist or doctor? Your parish family
wants to know about these great businesses, too. Please let your favorite business owners know that advertising on the church bulletin is
affordable, reliable and helps to provide the bulletin at no charge to the
church! Whether it be your favorite local business or your own business, our church bulletin is a great place to advertise! For more information call Sheila Miller 1-800-616-4138. With your help, we can keep
our bulletin free of charge.
A collection will also be taken during the service for the refugee vendors from the International Market displaced by fire.
DO YOU NEED SPECIAL COOKIES
FOR THANKSGIVING?
The cookie ladies will hold their monthly cookie
sales after the English Masses November 21/22.
They will also sell some homemade gifts. The
7th graders will be adding their baking skills by
donating cookies also.

has formed the St. Francis Eco multicultural community, which studies
Laudato Si, Living with Integrity, Pope
Francis’ encyclical on the ecology. The group will meet Friday,
