 BPAC Meeting Thursday February 6 I. Welcome 1. Four parents attended the meeting II. Review Dec. 5 NAES parent workshops 1. We reviewed the workshop that took place December 5. 2. Based on the survey, taken by those who attended, everyone was satisfied with the workshops and they agreed to attend the second on. 3. The only complaint was lack of communication about the even in our part. III. Suggestions for the second NAES parent workshops a) Date: Thursday March 6pm-­‐8pm b) School: Johnson c) Topics: Ways parents can help their students be successful in their education. IV. Student and parent rights with Special Education and ELL Education 1. All students who qualify have the right to receive both Special Education and English Language Learners services. 2. No school personnel have the right to ask parents to deny any of these services. 3. Districts must inform parents of their rights, how services will be provided, and advise them of advantages and disadvantages of receiving services. 4. After receiving all the information only the parent has the right to decide if your child should receive or not receive the services. V. State visit march 12-­‐13 1.

The state will be visiting us on Wednesday March 12 and Thursday Marc 13. The state will be evaluating each school’s and the whole bilingual program. The state would like to interview parents who have students in the program. One parent volunteered to be interviewed. VI. Questions and Closing 1. Can the state interview parents after 6pm? After investigating it is not possible, the interviews must take place during the school day. 2. If we agreed to have the meetings at 6:30pm why are you starting at 6 pm? I am trying to accommodate as many parents as possible; if we start and someone comes in later I will make sure to review all information for them. 3. Why is there so many problems with communication about events? a.Flyers about all events go out every Friday with students, please make sure students are bringing them home, and I will speak to teachers about the issue. b. We send phone messages to the numbers we have registered, if you change your number please inform you school as soon as possible. c. You may sign up to receive text messages not just phone messages. d. You can also look at the district website for more information. 4. The meeting ended at 7pm 5. The next meeting will be in April, but there is no determined date yet. Junta se Concilio Asesor de Padres Bilingües jueves 6 de febrero del 2014 II. Bienvenidos 1. Cuatro padres asistieron a la junta. III. Repaso de taller de padres NAES del 5 de diciembre 1. Repasamos el taller de padres que tomo lugar el 5 de diciembre 2. Basado en la encuesta, que los que asistieron tomaron, todos estuvieron contentos con la presentaciones, y piensan asistir al segundo taller. 3. La única queja con el taller fue la comunicación, no fue adecuada de nuestra parte. IV. Sugerencias para el segundo taller de NAES 1. Fecha: jueves 6 de marzo, 6pm-­‐8pm 2. En: La escuela Johnson 3. Temas: que pueden hacer los padres para ayudar a sus hijos con la educación de sus hijos. V. Derechos de estudiantes y padres con la educación especial y la educación bilingüe 1. Todos los estudiantes que califiquen tiene el derecho de recibir servicios de educación especial y servicios bilingües por ley. 2. Ningún personal de un distrito escolar debe decirle que tiene que rechazar uno de los dos servicios. 3. El personal del distrito escolar le puede avisar de sus derechos, como recibirá su estudiante los servicios, y aconsejarle los beneficios y los problemas de recibir los servicios. 4. Después de recibir toda la información necesaria solo usted como padre puede decir si quiere que su hijo reciba los servicios o rechazar uno o los dos servicios. VI. Visita del estado los días 12-­‐13 de marzo 1.

El estado nos visitara el miércoles 12 de marzo y el jueves 13 de marzo. El estado vendrá para hacer una evaluación del programa, y de cada escuela. El estado quiere entrevistar a padres que tiene hijos en el programa bilingüe. Un padre se puso como voluntario para ser entrevistado. VII. Preguntas y Despedida 1. ¿Podría el estado entrevistar a padres después de las 6 pm? Después de investigar no pueden tiene que ser durante el día escolar. 2. ¿Si quedamos de tener las juntas a las 6:30pm porque empieza a las 6pm? Empiezo a las 6 pm para acomodar a todos, y si alguien llega a las 6:30 pm con gusto yo le repasare todo. 3. ¿Porque hay tanto problema con la comunicación sobre los eventos? a.Boletines son mandados a casa con los estudiantes cada viernes, asegúrense que estos lleguen con sus hijos, y yo los comentare con los maestros. b. Mandamos mensaje de teléfono a los números que ustedes nos indican, si cambian de numero avise a su escuela lo más pronto posible para que reciba mensajes. c. Si gusta puede apuntarse para recibir mensajes de texto, no solo de teléfono. d. Puede mirar en la página de internet del distrito para más información. 4. La junta termino a las 7pm 5. La siguiente junta tomara lugar en abril, aun no hay una fecha determinada
