FEAST OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA
Dear Parishioners,
The Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated under this title following apparitions to three young Portuguese shepherd children —
Lucia dos Santos and her two younger cousins, Francisco and Jacinta. Between the months of May and October in the year 1917, Our Lady appeared six times to
them in a field close to the small village of Fatima which
is situated about 70 miles north of Lisbon in Portugal.
The message of Fatima includes a call to conversion of
heart, repentance from sin and a dedication to the
Blessed Virgin Mary, especially through praying the
Rosary.
The three children who received the apparitions had
been brought up in an atmosphere of genuine piety.
Together they tended the sheep and, with Lucy in
charge, would often pray the Rosary kneeling in the open. In the summer of 1916 an Angel appeared to them several times and taught
them a prayer to the Blessed Trinity.
On Sunday, May 13, 1917, toward noon, a flash of lightning drew the
attention of the children, and they saw a brilliant figure appearing over
the trees of the Cova da Iria. The "Lady" asked them to pray for the
conversion of sinners and an end to the war, and to come back every
month, on the 13th.
Further apparitions took place on June 13 and July 13. On August 13
the children were prevented by local authorities from going to the Cova da Iria, but they saw the apparition on the 19th. On September 13
the Lady requested recitation of the Rosary for an end to the war.
Finally, on October 13, the "Lady" identified herself as "Our Lady of
the Rosary" and again called for prayer and penitence. Mary’s message at Fatima is very simple. She calls us to pray. She asks us to
pray the rosary for peace in the world.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2014
World Mission Sunday, is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church's missionary activity through prayer and
sacrifice. For this year’s World Mission Sunday celebration, we are focusing on the words from St. Matthew’s Gospel, “I Will Build My
Church” (Mt 16:18), highlighting the outreach of local churches through
priests, religious and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world
away.
As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is "an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give:
as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all
the missions of the world" . In a message delivered on a World Mission
Sunday, the Pope said: "The offerings that will be collected on World
Mission Sunday, are destined for a common fund of solidarity distributed, in the Pope's name, by the Society for the Propagation of
the Faith among the missions and missionaries of the entire world."
Every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grow - as
new dioceses are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of the
growing number of young men hearing Christ's call to follow Him as
priests, as areas devastated by war or natural disaster are rebuilt, and as
other areas, long suppressed, are opening up to hear the message of
Christ and His Church. That is why the involvement and commitment of
Catholics from around the world is so urgently needed. Your prayers and
generous support offered for the propagation of the Faith on World
Mission Sunday directly benefit the mission church.

Queridos feligreses,
La Santísima Virgen María es venerada bajo este título después de las apariciones a tres jóvenes pastorcillos portugueses — Lucia dos Santos y
sus dos primos más jóvenes, Francisco y Jacinta. Entre los meses
de mayo y octubre en el año 1917, la Virgen apareció seis veces a
ellos en un campo cerca de la pequeña aldea de Fátima que se
encuentra a unos 70 kilómetros al norte de Lisboa en Portugal. El
mensaje de Fátima incluye una llamada a la conversión del corazón, al arrepentimiento del pecado y una dedicación a la Santísima Virgen María, especialmente a través de rezar el Rosario.
Los tres niños que recibieron las apariciones habían sido criados
en un ambiente de piedad genuina. Juntos cuidaban las ovejas
con Lucy a cargo, a menudo rezaban el Rosario arrodillados al
aire libre. En el verano de 1916 un ángel se les apareció varias
veces y les enseñó una oración a la Santísima Trinidad.
En domingo, 13 de mayo de 1917, hacia el mediodía, un destello de un relámpago
llamó la atención de los niños, y vieron una figura brillante que aparecio encima
de los árboles de la Cova da Iria. La "Señora" pidió que oraran por la conversión de los pecadores y el fin de la guerra y que regresaran cada mes, el día 13.
Más apariciones tuvieron lugar el 13 de junio y el 13 de julio. El 13 de agosto los
niños fueron advertidos por las autoridades locales de no ir a la Cova da Iria,
pero vieron la aparición el 19. El 13 de septiembre la “Señora” solicitó rezar el
Rosario para poner fin a la guerra. Finalmente, el 13 de octubre, la "Señora" se
identificó como "Nuestra Señora del Rosario" y de nuevo hizo un llamado por la
oración y penitencia. El mensaje de María en Fátima es muy simple. Ella nos
llama a orar. Ella nos pide que recemos el Rosario por la paz en el mundo.

DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS MISIONES 2014
El Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, es un día reservado para los católicos en
todo el mundo para que uno mismo se comprometa a la actividad misionera de
la iglesia a través de la oración y el sacrificio. Para la celebración del Domingo
Mundial de las Misiones de este año, nos estamos enfocando en las palabras del
Evangelio de San Mateo, "Edificaré mi iglesia" (Mt 16:18), destacando los vínculos de iglesias locales a través de sacerdotes, religiosos y laicos entre los
pobres y marginados a medio mundo de distancia.
Según lo descrito por el Papa Juan Pablo II, el Domingo Mundial Misionero constituye "un día importante en la vida de la Iglesia, porque enseña cómo dar:
como ofrenda a Dios en la celebración Eucarística y por todas las misiones del mundo". En un mensaje enviado en un Domingo Mundial Misionero, el
Papa dijo: “las ofrendas que se recogen el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, están destinadas a un fondo común de solidaridad distribuido, en
nombre del Papa, por la sociedad de la propagación de la fe entre las
misiones y los misioneros de todo el mundo". Cada año crecen las necesidades de la iglesia católica en las misiones - como se forman nuevas diócesis, ya
que se abren nuevos seminarios debido al número creciente de jóvenes escuchando el llamado de Cristo a seguirlo como sacerdotes, como se reconstruyen
las áreas devastadas por la guerra o los desastres naturales y otras áreas,
reprimidas durante mucho tiempo, se están abriendo a escuchar el mensaje de
Cristo y su iglesia. Es decir por qué la participación y el compromiso de los
católicos de todo el mundo es tan urgente. Sus oraciones y generoso apoyo
ofrecido para la propagación de la Fe en el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones
beneficiarán directamente la misión de la iglesia.
